Chapter 405:

A flash of lightning through the window lit up the room briefly, casting eerie shadows. âA power outage?â Allison frowned.
The room was soundproof, so it was impossible to hear anything from outside.
Something tugged at Allisonâs memory, urging her to leave the room. She stepped into the darkened hallway and gently knocked on the door across from hers.
Thump.
âKellan?â Allison called.
The hallway was pitch black, with no light from any source. The silence felt unsettling, especially considering Kellanâs fear of the darkâa detail he had tried to hide, but one she hadnât missed during her previous visit.
âIf you donât answer, Iâm coming in,â she warned. Just as her hand touched the doorknob, footsteps sounded from inside.
The door creaked open, and a thin beam of dim light spilled into the hallway.
Allisonâs eyes followed the glow until they met Kellanâs face, softly illuminated by a candlelight.
âSorry, the lightning must have damaged the system, and I only managed to find this candle,â Kellan explained, stepping aside to let her in. âPlease, come in.â
âThatâll do,â Allison said, relieved, as she stepped into the room.
The candleâs flickering flame cast soft light around the room, its glow reflecting the storm raging outside.

Allison settled onto the sofa, her gaze following the candleâs dancing shadows. âDid you call anyone to come for repairs?â she asked.
âNot yet. The storm is too severe for anyone to come out tonight,â Kellan lied, his words calm as the flickering candlelight danced in his dark eyes. âItâs far too stormy outside. For safetyâs sake, we should wait until morning to sort this out.â
Allison nodded in agreement, not thinking much of it. âThat makes perfect sense. Itâs definitely unsafe to venture out at night.â
An easy silence settled between them, filling the room with a tranquil ambiance that felt oddly comforting. As the warm glow of the candle illuminated the space, Allison turned to leave, but Kellanâs voice stopped her.
âWould you mind staying with me tonight?â
It was unusual for Kellan to ask for anything, and though his tone remained steady, Allison noticed the slight tremor in his fingers.
âI donât mind. Iâve been dealing with insomnia tonight anyway, so it makes sense to keep each other company,â she replied, understanding his aversion to the dark.
She lightened the mood with a tease, saying, âBut just like last time, Iâm claiming the bed, and youâll take the floor.â
âOf course,â Kellan replied, a rare smile gracing his lips.
Being mindful of his injuries, Allison laid a thick blanket on the floor for him and offered a pillow, ensuring he was as comfortable as possible.
Meanwhile, downstairs in the electrical room, two servants crouched in the shadows, guarding the tiny space.
âI canât figure out what Mr. Lloyd was thinking, saying he was worried the lightning might damage the electrical system. He had me turn off the power early,â one servant murmured, bewildered.
âRight? And he also told us not to mention it to anyone, insisting we keep the power off until morning before we could return to our rooms,â the other replied, shaking his head.
