Chapter 578:
âNot too long ago,â Allison replied, smiling as she steadied Rebecca, only to see Ferdinand approaching just behind her.
âWell, well, look whoâs here with Mr. Blakely! You better spill everything,â Allison teased.
Rebecca rolled her eyes. âFamily pressure. Theyâre pushing for an arranged marriage, so Ferdinand and I are on these âdatesâ â though weâre hardly interested in each other. Theyâre watching us like hawks!â
Allison followed Rebeccaâs pointed glance. A short distance away, several bodyguards loitered in the shade, keeping an ever-watchful eye.
Ah, she understood now: both were under heavy family pressure, forced into company neither had chosen. Ferdinand, catching her look, gave a wry smile and raised an eyebrow at Kellan.
âSo, Mr. Lloyd, is this why you hung up on me earlier? Here I thought friendship meant more than a date.â
Kellan met his gaze, unbothered. âAnd arenât you on a date with Miss Green?â he replied smoothly. âSeems we both have company tonight.â
Rebecca rolled her eyes as she saw Ferdinand approach. âMr. Lloyd, donât twist things â Iâm only putting up with this charade for the familyâs sake,â she said with a teasing grin.
Ferdinand shrugged. âLikewise, Miss Green. Trust me, Iâm just playing the part.â
They both shot each other a glance. The mutual disdain was evident.
Allison was almost laughing. âYou two are honestly like an old, bickering couple.â
âLose the âcoupleâ part. Weâre just bickering, thanks.â Rebecca shot back with a scoff.
But then her gaze drifted and landed on a faint love bite on Allisonâs neck â subtle but unmistakable.
Rebeccaâs eyes sparked with interest.
âOh, sweetheart, do tell â whatâs going on with you and Mr. Lloyd?â
Though whispered, the question didnât escape Kellanâs earshot. He observed Allison carefully, recalling her earlier words about needing time to ease into their new relationship.
Would she be open about it? But Allisonâs response was simple and resolute.
âYes, Kellan and I are dating,â she announced, her fingers threading confidently through his. âWe just made it official yesterday, so I havenât had a chance to tell you.â
Her words struck Kellan like a firework, a sudden spark of light and warmth in his chest. A soft smile played on his lips as he watched her, savoring the moment.
âYes,â he echoed, lifting their joined hands slightly. âWeâre a couple now.â
Rebeccaâs jaw dropped as she processed the unexpected confession. âWait â what? You two? Together? Wow!â In fact, she had always felt there was something between them. She had pegged them both as oblivious romantics, thinking theyâd take forever to act on anything. But now, here they were, officially together.
A genuine smile softened her face, and she reached out, touching Allisonâs arm with a warm squeeze. âSweetheart, if Mr. Lloyd ever dares to break your heart, you know the Green family has your back. Weâll be there, pitchforks and all.â
