Chapter 612:
She glanced at the house again, her eyes betraying a flicker of admiration before she shut it down. No matter how impressive the villa looked, it wasnât hers. Instead, a quiet resentment began to stir within her. She couldnât help but wonder if Darrel and Allison had bribed their way past the staff here, but after observing their movements carefully, she could find no evidence of it.
Lindy turned to Melany, her voice laced with uncertainty. âWhat do you think Allisonâs planning?â
Melany hesitated, thinking it over, then gave Lindy a look. âMaybe you should go check it out,â she suggested.
âAlright,â Lindy slightly nodded.
Melany was in her disheveled state. The elegance of the villa only emphasized how out of sync she felt. She was used to waiting, watching for the right moment to strike â but today, patience seemed like a luxury she couldnât afford.
With a forced sigh, she feigned confusion. âAllison, are you joking? This is just a villa. Maybe anyone could open it if they know the code, right?â
The stylish young man who had explained things earlier chuckled darkly, his disdain obvious. âWhy donât you give it a try?â he challenged, clearly enjoying the prospect of her failure. âThis villa has infrared sensors in every nook and cranny.â
People who knew a thing or two started discussing it. âWithout the ownerâs permission, just stepping into the managerâs area sets off the alarm across the whole Sunset Hill!â âNot to mention, the password doors are oldâ¦â
The whispers only grew louder. âThis is big news,â another added. âWeâre talking about iris scanning now. No way to cheat that!â
âIâve never seen anyone get past this villaâs security.â
The rumors swirled, and Melany stood there, her face burning with humiliation. In that moment, she felt like a total fool, clueless about everything.
She forced herself to speak through clenched teeth. âThese are just rumors. Who knows what could have changed over the years?â
Seeing Melanyâs stubbornness, Allison rested her chin on her hand and smiled. âMiss Johnson, if youâre so skeptical, why not give it a try?â
The crowdâs eyes shifted to Melany at her words, eager for a show.
As soon as Allison stepped up to her, the crowd instantly started buzzing.
âYeah, give it a shot!â someone called out.
âIt wonât hurt to try. Weâd love to see if Miss Johnson can prove itâs all a lie.â
âI would love to see what the device and the intruder alert look like.â
Nobody had seen the villa open in over ten years.
Melanyâs stomach twisted. She felt cornered, as if she had no choice but to play along. Realizing it was too late, she squared her shoulders and walked forward.
âFine! Iâll go. Iâve never seen it anyway.â
She walked toward the door, stopping in front of the scanner. It didnât look particularly impressive. Allison could just be putting on a show, Melany thought, certain the villa had been tampered with somehow.
