Chapter 614:
How could this be happening? Upon realizing this truth, Lindy felt her heart fill with more anger.
âAllison, so youâve been the owner of Sunset Hill all this time? With all that wealth, why didnât you ever help the Stevens family during your marriage to Colton?â Her voice cut through the murmurs, sharp and indignant.
Fueled by anger, Lindy disregarded the crowdâs reaction, her accusations laced with bitterness. As far as she was concerned, Allison had deliberately deceived them into marriage!
âYou married into the Stevens family with ulterior motives, didnât you? All those losses Coltonâs company suffered â it was probably your doingâ¦â
Before Lindy could continue, Rebecca interrupted her. âMrs. Stevens, Iâve got to hand it to you â youâve got shamelessness down to an art.â
She tossed her hair back, her words piercing. âSupport the Stevens family? And what makes you think theyâre so special? Just so you know, your sonâs buried in tens of millions of debt, all thanks to your âwonderfulâ daughter-in-law!â
Rebeccaâs words were like barbs, relentless and cutting. âIt makes me wonder if evolution missed a few steps with you people â how else can you be this clueless about whatâs being said?â
âYou!â Lindyâs face went pale, clutching her chest, visibly shaken by the retort.
Unfazed, Allison stepped into the villa. When she returned, she held something in her hand.
âI didnât take it with me because I left it here years ago and forgot all about it,â she said, holding up a ring â a delicate jade band that glistened beautifully. âThis is the black jade ring of Sunset Hill. Itâs a unique identity marker,â she added.
Her words struck everyone like a lightning bolt.
Even Santinoâs face went pale at the sight of it. Known for his brashness, he wasnât stupid enough to miss the significance. Even if he wasnât the sharpest tool in the shed, he was finally starting to get it.
âMs. Clarkeâ¦â His voice quivered, his bravado crumbling as realization dawned. A woman with this kind of power and wealth â someone who commanded hundreds of millions a decade ago â was not someone to cross.
It was no surprise that his uncle showed her such respect. Now, he was only too aware of his misstep. Shame washed over him as he finally spoke, covering his face. âI was wrong. I swear, I didnât know you were the owner of Sunset Hill,â he stammered.
But Allison looked on, unimpressed.
âFunny, isnât it?â she said mockingly. âWhen you were flaunting your âimportanceâ earlier, it didnât seem like mistakes were on your mind. Now, what you realized is not that youâre in the wrong, but that youâre in danger!â
Her tone was cold, slicing through his defenses, and Santinoâs face drained of color.
Darrel knew Allison well. Watching the scene, he really wished he could beat that ungrateful kid to a pulp!
