Chapter 734:
âWhatâs this, Alice? Youâre not scared of me anymore?â
Allison, as if sheâd just been reminded, straightened up and changed her tone. âOf course, Iâm still scared of you⦠Mr. Shaw.â
Verruckt gave her a quick, indifferent glance.
âYou say youâre afraid, but you patched up that wound, saved my life, and even made it out of that deadly container alive.â Verruckt looked down at Alice, his red eyes watching her closely. She looked both nervous and strangely calm at the same time. âBeing alive is a blessing.â
Allison nodded, her smile appearing for the first time that night. âYouâre right. Being alive is the greatest gift. Nothing else matters as much.â
Her smile was like a burst of spring, offering a hint of warmth and vitality in the otherwise cold, decaying factory.
Verrucktâs eyes stayed locked on Aliceâs face. When she smiled, her brows lifted, and her long lashes still held the hint of tears. Her cheeks were slightly pink, and her smile shone brighter than the sun itself.
For a brief moment, he felt an urge to possess her.
Verruckt, his face unreadable, spoke flatly. âAlice, donât ever give me that smile again.â

âAlright.â Allison quickly hid her smile. She was confused, but not really surprised. After all, the rumors about Verruckt painted him as unpredictable, a loose cannon with a temper.
As the icy wind blew through, the temperature in the abandoned factory dropped even more.
Verrucktâs voice was rough. âGo behind the pillar.â
âWhy?â Allison asked, confused, though she wasnât eager to stay close to him.
âItâs tighter there.â Verruckt glanced at her briefly. âAnd itâll keep you from running off.â
Allison didnât argue. She knew he was being cautious. At least, being behind the pillar, she didnât feel as cold.
The deserted factory grew still again.
Before long, the sound of fast footsteps echoed from outside. Allison started to get up to check, but Verrucktâs gaze darkened, and he ordered, âStay where you are.â
Allison froze, her finger pointing toward the noise. âIt sounds like someoneâs coming.â
âI know,â Verruckt answered flatly. âBut they might not be on our side.â
Just as he finished speaking, the door to the factory creaked open. Luckily, it was Jareth who burst in.
âMr. Shaw!â
