Chapter 739:
He forced his face to remain expressionless as he walked out with Amya.
The room went quiet for a brief moment.
Allison quickly finished tending to the wound and injected the medication into Kellan.
That should be enough for now.
But when she reached to remove her sterilization gown, Kellan assumed that she was about to leave. He grabbed her wrist, saying, âAllison, donât leave me.â His voice was raspy and thick with emotion and affection.
Allison reassured him, âIâm just changing. Iâll be right back.â
âI canât bear to,â Kellan said, holding onto her hand tightly. He had just narrowly escaped danger, and his mind felt foggy, far from his usual calm, detached self. It seemed like he was afraid that she wouldnât come back once she let go of his hand.
âOkay, I wonât go,â Allison said, taking off her gloves and sitting down in the chair next to him. âHow did this happen?â
âThe lab was completely locked down. To get out fast, I set up a makeshift bomb and put it in the microwave, just like you did,â Kellan explained, his fingers threading with hers. âAllison, I was so scared for you.â
Allisonâs heart softened. Everything that had happened that day had truly scared him.
âStarting tomorrow, you donât have to go to the lab. Focus on other things,â Allison said.
âNo wayâ¦â Kellan tried to sit up, struggling.
Allison gently pushed him back and said, âJust by taking care of yourself, youâre already helping me. Iâve gained a lot of trust, but if you go, it could be dangerous. I wonât be able to focus.â She paused for a moment before adding, âI need you to do something even more important. You need to find the explosives and the escape route. I think this will be over soon.â
Their eyes locked, and Kellan squeezed her hand tightly.
âAllison, whether itâs life or death, weâll face it together.â
âOf course,â Allison replied, leaning down to kiss his forehead. âAfter all, itâs what you promised me.â
Outside the door, Gordon came back with burn medication. He overheard their conversation clearly. His dark eyes grew even more somber.
The following day, at the research institute.
âMr. Shaw, the basement level oneâs lab is all intact. Nothing is missing, and the test subjects are okay, butâ¦â
Jareth delivered his report carefully. He paused for a moment, unsure.
âEven with all the security in place, we still havenât found the female assassin you mentioned.â
