Chapter 766:
Jareth shook his head and replied coldly, âSorry, Mr. Shaw has something urgent to take care of today. I donât think heâll be able to meet with you two.â
Coltonâs face grew even paler, his expression darkening. If it hadnât been for the first staff member who mentioned there was medicine, Colton would have thought this place was a total scam. After Jareth left, he didnât notice Allison standing just around the corner.
As Colton and Melany were about to leave, Allison showed up again, adjusting her glasses.
âSorry, Mr. Shaw is just like that,â she said.
To Colton, Allison was the only person in the lab who seemed easy to talk to.
âYour boss is really unpredictable,â he said, still looking unhappy. âWhen will he be free next?â
Allison let out a deep sigh. âIt looks like Mr. Shaw will be going on a business trip soon. The lab and the pharmaceutical company are holding a joint meeting, so there will be a lot of visitors, and weâll all be very busy.â
She shrugged and made a lighthearted remark. âWe might as well open the bossâs office to everyone; there wonât be any time for you to meet him soon.â
Colton asked casually, âWhy is the lab open to visitors?â
Allison answered smoothly, âWe have a lot of specimens here, which help showcase our expertise.â
Allison then subtly steered the conversation, adding, âThe bossâs office does have the medicine, and itâs not a big deal. If I had the power, Iâd have given it to you by now. But I canât make those decisions, so Iâm really sorry.â
From the start, Allison had made it sound like the medicine for the head pain was easy to get and not very important. She even mentioned that the lab would be busy the next day and that Verruckt would be on a business trip â this was all meant to plant a certain idea in these two peopleâs minds. Sure enough, Melanyâs eyes narrowed with a hint of calculation as she asked casually, âSo, how can we attend this meeting?â
âIâm not sure about that,â Allison said, glancing at Melany. âYou might need an invitation from the lab or some connection with the companyâs leaders.â
It was obvious from Melanyâs expression that she had something in mind.
Melany smiled sweetly and said, âThen weâll just find a pharmaceutical company we know, maybe buy some shares, and visit the lab tomorrow. Itâs not much money, after all.â
âOf course,â Allison said with a knowing smile. âBut youâll need to come before two in the afternoon. Otherwise, you might miss Mr. Shaw, and there wonât be anyone to greet you in the lab.â
Melany didnât realize that she was walking right into a trap. She raised her chin confidently. âOf course, our time is valuable too.â
