Chapter 770:
How could this be? It felt as if every bone in his body was aching, as if he was being crushed.
The pain was overwhelming, suffocating him.
So, the person who had saved him five years ago wasnât Melany! It was Allison, the one who had once been his wife, yet he had never cherished her at all.
All these years, he had kept hurting Allison, even pushing her away. In that moment, his memories sliced through him like knives, tearing at his heart.
After Allison ended the call, she made her way to the break room on the second basement level of the building.
When she entered, she found the others gathered, gossiping and clearly frustrated about the serum issue.
âOur labâs been cursed lately,â one of them muttered. âWe lost a vial of serum, and now assassins keep showing up. I even heard theyâre making the labâs processes more complicated.â
âThereâs no other option,â another chimed in. âThe defense system is getting an upgrade. Itâs supposed to be called the Meteor System.â
âThat name sounds kind of romantic, doesnât it?â
Judith sneered, her lips curling into a cold smile. âRomantic? I heard that if an intruder shows up, the system will trigger infrared and white phosphorus bombs, turning the entire lab into a furnace.â

âOh my God, the intruder wouldnât stand a chance.â
âExactly,â Judith replied. âItâs terrifying.â
Allison stood off to the side, deep in thought. She realized that if the Meteor System were ever triggered, getting into the lab would be a one-way ticket with no way out.
There was no more time to waste. Tomorrow was the only window to act.
She calmly took a slow sip of her coffee and casually asked, âIf theyâre upgrading the system, doesnât Mr. Shaw need to be there? But I heard heâs not coming tomorrow.â
Judith quickly corrected her, âHeâll be here. Tomorrowâs Wednesday. He wonât stay long, but heâll show up.â
âHow long will he stay?â
Judith, not suspecting anything, answered honestly, âHeâll probably leave around noon.â
Then, with a sly grin, Judith leaned in and teased, âWhat, planning to leave with him?â
Allison waved her hand dismissively. âNo way. Iâm just figuring out when I can take it easy.â
She set her coffee down and headed back to the office.
