Chapter 824:
Her words made sense, but the fingers on her chin didnât move at all.
âSo you came back to die?â Verrucktâs eyes moved from her slightly swollen lips to her red, tear-filled eyes. She clearly feared death, yet she had returned. It truly puzzled him.
âAlice, if I were you, Iâd just take the money and disappear.â His cold, judgmental gaze remained fixed on her.
Allisonâs eyes began to well up with tears as she heard that.
âI did think about it,â she replied, her voice quiet. âBut you and Mr. Williamson have been so good to me. If I left like that, Iâd never find peace.â She let a tear fall at the perfect moment. âIâm sorry. I know Iâve probably been a burden to you once again.â
Allison skillfully shifted the conversation from Fionaâs situation to the danger she had faced in returning.
Luckily, after she spoke, the deadly energy radiating from Verruckt slowly faded.
âDonât worry, Iâm not going to die just yet.â
He let go of her and wiped the blood from his fingers with a handkerchief. Then, he glanced at her face, tilting his head slightly.
Because of their contact, blood stained her chinâalmost like a sign of his presence. But Verruckt felt it wasnât enough. For a brief moment, he even considered marking her in another way. When he realized this, his expression hardened once again. He couldnât lose control over a woman.
âAlice, coming back here tonight was actually a wise decision,â he said. Verruckt nonchalantly wiped the blood from her chin with a fresh handkerchief.
He looked down at her with a cold, detached expression. His eyes traced her fragile neck, as if one twist could break it.
âBecause if I die, you and the lab will suffer the same fate.â His gaze was sharp and heavy, pinning Allison under its weight. Though the act of wiping the blood seemed tender, it felt ice-cold.
To anyone else, his words would have sounded like a threat. But for Allison, it wasnât a surprise. This madman wouldnât leave quietly, not even in death.
âThen I can only hope we make it through tonight,â Allison said, blinking innocently. âBut from the way youâre speaking, it sounds like we might make it, right?â
âNot necessarily. Just because I might survive doesnât mean you will,â Verruckt said, tightening his grip on her chin. âSo, Alice, since you havenât crossed me, Iâll give you one last chance to leave.â
His silver hair glowed coldly under the moonlight.
âOtherwise, your fate could end up worse than Fionaâs. The Immortality Groupâs assassins arenât as direct as I am. They like to torment you by using brutal methods before ending your life.â
