Chapter 836:
Verruckt narrowed his eyes. âYou think you know me, do you?â
âOf course not,â Allison responded, her fleeting sentimentality turning into a pout. âBefore I went to the club, I thought if I died, so be it. We all die someday.â Tears filled her eyes again as she continued, âBut the idea of losing you terrified me.â
Allisonâs voice was thick with emotion. âSometimes I just canât figure you out. One minute youâre gentle with me, the next youâre threatening me, like⦠like Iâm just a pet to you.â
Her feelings tumbled out unchecked.
âMr. Shaw, I swear I wonât trust you again.â
Yet, as Verruckt listened to Allisonâs heartfelt outpouring, he couldnât help but feel a twinge of satisfaction. He casually tilted her chin up. âWhat would it take for you to trust me?â
Allisonâs cheeks flushed with anger, her lips pressed tightly together. She pouted, almost playfully. âUnless you can whip up a truth serum or literally open your chest to show me your heart.â
She had brought up the truth serum deliberately, knowing that it had been mentioned in the records of the test subjects. So, she played the part of being unreasonable during their argument, making her words seem less threatening.
âOtherwise, I willâ¦â
âWhat will you do?â Verruckt prodded, unable to suppress a chuckle. âYou seem a bit braver since last night.â
He smiled lazily, his fingers brushing lightly against Allisonâs lips. âHereâs your truth serum. Iâll be your test subject if you want to try it.â
Verruckt was curious about his own true feelings as well.
Allison turned her head and spoke with a hint of defiance. âAnyway, I canât read minds. The truth serum was just a joke. You said it existed, but Iâm not stupid enough to believe that.â
Her offhand comment triggered something in Verruckt. âIâd never go so far as to deceive you with something like that,â he responded, his voice firm.
Verruckt then reached into the medical kit and pulled out a syringe. Without a second thought, he plunged it into his vein.
Allison froze, clearly taken aback. âMr. Shaw, your handâ¦â She quickly snatched up the empty syringe, her eyes scanning it.
Sure enough, it was marked as truth serum. He truly was out of his mind â no question about it.
âThis is the truth serum. You can ask me three questions,â he said calmly as he spread his arms wide, his expression completely relaxed. He stared directly into Allisonâs eyes, curious to see what she would ask.
