Chapter 889:
She pressed it hard.
A loud, sharp announcement blared through the basement. âEvacuate immediately! Evacuate immediately!â The cold, mechanical voice of a woman blended with the urgent alarm.
The researchers were in a panic. âWhat should we do?â one of them asked.
âMaybe we should follow the alarm,â another suggested.
âExactly, the evacuation orderâs been given,â someone else confirmed.
As soon as he heard the announcement, Kellan quickly commanded his team, âGet all researchers to the upper floors.â
âUnderstood, sir,â they answered.
Lena barely managed to grab her files before one of the men in black pushed her into the elevator. Annoyed, she had no choice but to go along with it. But something didnât feel right to Lena.
âWho set off the alarm? Has anyone told Mr. Shaw?â
Kellan stayed calm. âSomeoneâs already contacted him. Donât worry.â
Once he spoke, the elevator doors shut completely.

This area wasnât affected by the smoke. As the elevator moved up, one of the researchers tried to use his phone to call outside, but he was confused.
âHuh? Did our elevator always have no signal?â
âI canât make a call either,â another researcher said.
âNeither can I. What should we do?â
In their rising panic, everyone pulled out their phones.
âLooks like weâll have to wait until weâre out,â one of them muttered, sounding defeated.
When the elevator doors opened again, Kellan made sure his team safely settled the researchers. Then, he led another group to set explosives in the second basement.
Through the smoke and chaos, Kellan couldnât reach Allison. But as his heart raced, he felt a strange sense of her presence.
âAllison, see you soon,â he muttered.
No matter what happened, he would always be there for her.
In the second basement, Allison knew the researchers had been moved. She accessed the central control system again and broadcasted with the automated female voice.
âThe fire is out of control. In five minutes, all researchers must evacuate immediately with the remaining test subjects!â
Upon hearing the announcement, the researchers panicked.
âWhat should we do? Mr. Shaw isnât here, and neither is Mr. Williamson!â
âLetâs run. Everyone else on this floor has already left. What are we still doing here?â
