Chapter 913:
So, they ran forward, not daring to glance behind. But this time, Allison wasnât alone.
The world around them blurred as they ran, with Kellan gripping her wrist tightly. It was a silent promise, one neither of them would ever break.
In the forest, Verruckt stumbled away. He knew he couldnât afford to fall. If the military caught him, even behind bars, enemies would be waiting to finish him off. His vision was clouded by his own blood.
He glanced toward the spot where Allison had gone, his eyes burning with rage. Those eyes were like a pool of boiling blood.
âAllison,â Verruckt muttered, his gaze shifting back toward the research institute. All of his men had been killed there. The researchers and test subjects were locked in vehicles, ready to be taken over by the police.
The most valuable test subject, Lilian, had also been taken by Allison.
He could barely hear the police talking nearby.
âWho wouldâve thought Josh from the Immortality Group would die on the way to the cruise?â
âYeah, and Mayor Billâs gone, too.â

âOrders from above: capture Verruckt at all costs. Find him!â
The drugâs effects wore off, and the side effects hit him like a truck. Verruckt felt as if his brain were being pierced by needles. He stepped over the charred bodies, blood staining his clothes, and left the place.
Most of the bodies belonged to his men. The fire raging in the institute lit up the night, a blaze that even the fire trucks couldnât put out. The night concealed the darkness in his eyes.
Verruckt let out a bitter laugh, as if talking to the shadows. âBillâs dead, Josh is gone, the instituteâs burned down. Iâve lost everything.â
Years of hard work had gone up in flames. He had once thought that power and strength would get him everything he wanted, that it was the purpose of his life. But now, as he looked back, he saw that he had nothing left.
Maybe, at this point, hatred was the only thing driving him forward. In the darkness, Verruckt walked deeper into the forest.
âAllison, we will meet again,â he muttered.
And when they did, he vowed he would show no mercy.
The research institute was completely consumed by flames as police cars and fire trucks pulled up.
âQuite a show, isnât it? The mayor and the head of Immortality Pharmaceuticals are both dead,â someone commented.
âTonight has been something else. And now, the research instituteâs burning too,â another replied.
âThis place was bound to go up in smoke. Itâs a relief itâs finally gone. Hopefully, everything inside is destroyed,â one of the officers said.
âDonât get ahead of yourself. The man behind this institute is Verruckt. Thereâs been no word on his death tonight,â another cautioned.
