Chapter 917:
When she opened her eyes, she found herself in a warm, cozy room. The steady beep of medical equipment filled the air, and the sharp scent of medicine and disinfectant lingered around her. The light touched her face as Allison slowly regained her awareness. She had been saved.
Allison glanced down and saw Kellan sitting by her bed. His eyes were shut, but he still held her wrist tightly.
Kellanâs face had lost its roundness, his jawline more defined, and there were subtle dark rings beneath his eyes. He appeared completely drained. He lay there with his eyes shut, his forehead creased, as though sleep wasnât coming easily to him.
Allison didnât want to wake him. She slowly sat up, planning to get a drink of water. Unexpectedly, the moment she moved, Kellan sensed it.
âAllison,â he murmured. He blinked and looked at her, his eyes filled with confusion for a second. Was he still dreaming?
âItâs me,â Allisonâs voice cracked with worry. âYou need to sleep. Iâll be fineâ¦â
Before she could finish, Kellan wrapped her in his arms. His chest burned with heat, and his heart pounded wildly. Every thump seemed to resonate deep within her.
Kellan held her tightly, like he was clutching something priceless that heâd just found. âItâs been three days. Youâre finally awake.â

Allison couldnât see his face while he held her, but she could sense the slight shake in his voice. His grip on her was strong, as if he feared she might disappear at any moment.
âSo, I slept for three days?â Allison asked, still half propped up in shock. She understood that Kellan had been anxious for a long time, so she allowed him to hold her. He didnât let go, even after some time had passed. His warm breath brushed against her neck.
âIâm not going to die,â Allison said with a sigh. âMr. Lloyd, can I have some water first?â
It was only then that Kellan seemed to realize he was overreacting. âSorry,â he said, letting go of her and pouring a glass of water. âDrink slowly. If you feel any discomfort, let me know. Iâll call the doctor immediately.â He glanced at the medical equipment around them, checking everything to make sure it was all fine. Once he confirmed everything was in order, he let out a relieved breath.
âI know youâre worried about Lilian. Itâs all taken care of, so you donât need to stress,â he added before Allison had a chance to ask. âGordon and Amya are questioning her. After the serum injection, Lilian is mostly clear-headed now.â
Allison felt much better after sipping the water. âWhat about Verruckt?â she asked, the concern still weighing heavily on her mind.
âWe donât have any solid news about him,â Kellan replied, picking up a newspaper. âBut the military pulled a burned body from the ruins, claiming it was the head of the research facility.â
Allison studied the newspaper with a thoughtful look. âIt seems like theyâre just trying to calm the public down,â she said, but she was sure Verruckt had been close to death. With the drugâs effects fading and the side effects starting to kick in, no one knew if he would make it. Even if he wasnât dead, he was certainly badly hurt.
After setting the glass down, Allison looked around the unfamiliar room. âThis place is unfamiliar.â
