Chapter 929:
Allison, sitting nearby, acted as though she hadnât heard a word of their conversation.
âMr. Vargas, we wonât be staying long. Weâre planning to head back to Ontdale tomorrow,â Allison said, her voice steady.
Kylo gave a small nod. âWill you be taking Lilian with you?â
âNo,â Allison replied, her expression calm as the steam from her tea partially hid her face. âTurn her over to the police instead. Let her story come out in the open.â
âNaturally,â Kylo said with a slight smile, clearly impressed by her decisiveness. Then, as if it were a casual remark, he turned to her and asked, âMs. Clarke, Iâve been meaning to ask â do you have any interest in our casino business?â
Though he spoke with a light tone, there was no mistaking the seriousness in his words. âI could offer you a generous salary, excellent benefits, and even an annual cruise across the seas. No jurisdictions, no rules â just freedom. Itâs a far cry from an ordinary job.â
Enemies
Kellan cocked his head to one side and shot Kylo a stern look. âMr. Vargas, are you seriously trying to poach my woman right in front of me?â
Kylo folded his arms across his chest. âJust a friendly conversation.â Their gazes locked for a moment, and an unspoken tension hung in the air.

At the same time, Allison turned him down with a polite smile. âNo, thank you, Mr. Vargas. Your casinoâs doing perfectly well without me, and Iâm not exactly business material.â Her response was no surprise to Kylo.
He gave a small nod. âI respect that. You both should go get some rest for now.â
Not long after, someone arrived to courteously guide Allison and Kellan back to their rooms.
As soon as they were out of sight, Kyloâs grin slowly vanished.
Nearby, Andres watched him with curiosity and spoke up. âMr. Vargas, you seem awfully keen on Ms. Clarke. Youâve made more than a few attempts to bring her into the fold.â
He frowned in confusion. âBut they seem reckless â like theyâll only stir up trouble for us.â
Kylo let out a soft chuckle. His voice was steady, carrying a quiet authority. âIf I were the type to fear trouble, Iâd have taken a safer job instead of building everything from scratch.â
Andresâ words faltered. âIâm sorry, Mr. Vargas. I didnât mean it that way.â
He had grown too comfortable with Kyloâs generous side, forgetting the hard-earned struggle behind the empire he ruled. Now, trembling with regret, he sank to his knees.
Kylo didnât react. He calmly poured himself a cup of tea. âI knew that Allison wouldnât accept it,â he said evenly. âI just want her to understand that weâre not enemies.â His insight was sharp, as always.
Allisonâs ability to destroy the research institute made one thing clear â she was not someone to take lightly. There were likely even more layers to her that remained hidden.
