Chapter 965:
Melany scoffed, her voice dripping with disbelief. âColton, but your injuries havenât healed yet.â
Lindy quickly chimed in. âSheâs right. You should let the doctor examine you properly instead of chasing afterâ¦â
Allisonâs sarcastic smile silenced them. âColton, Melany is your wife. To avoid misunderstandings, you shouldnât walk me out. Besides, thereâs nothing left to say between us.â
Once, Colton had been her everything. But now, she didnât care anymore.
Keanu, anger flashing in his eyes, added his own rebuke. âYou want to walk her out? Did you even ask if Allison wants you to?â His words carried a deeper weight. If Colton knew this day would come, why had he made those choices back then? There was no point in continuing this entanglement.
Allisonâs tone softened as she turned to Keanu one last time. âTake care of your health. Iâll be leaving now.â
âAlright, be careful on your way.â
Without sparing anyone else a glance, Allison walked away, her steps steady and resolute.
However, she didnât expect Colton to chase after her.

âWait⦠I know your secret,â he said, stepping in front of her to block her path. His deep eyes locked onto hers with unwavering seriousness, yet his tone carried no trace of hostility. Instead, there was a bitter edge of self-mockery. âYou and Kellan used me to distract the institute personnel, and you even planted explosives, didnât you?â
Allisonâs gaze hardened, suspicion flashing in her eyes. She thought he was trying to trap her, so she narrowed her eyes, studying him carefully.
âDo you have any evidence?â she asked coolly, avoiding a direct answer and throwing the question back at him.
Her distant tone, as if he were a stranger, struck a nerve. Coltonâs chest tightened, a sharp ache cutting through his composure.
âAllison, can you stop being so cold to me?â He took a cautious step closer, his gaze softening. âI donât have any evidence, but I saw what happened that night with my own eyes.â
Colton drew a deep breath, steadying himself before continuing, âThese past few days, Iâve been thinking, trying to understand why you did what you did.â
His expression shifted, a mix of certainty and vulnerability etched into his features. âAnd Iâve come to one conclusion. I believe Kellan must have manipulated you.â
âKellan is dangerous. He has ties to both lawful and shady circles, and heâs killed without a second thought. Because of this, heâs earned himself plenty of enemies.â Colton locked eyes with Allison, his gaze steady. âBut youâre not like that,â he said. âYou saved me that day, didnât you? Thatâs proof enough.â
Deep down, Colton was certain that Allison still cared for him. To him, destroying the research institute sounded far more like Kellanâs handiwork than hers.
But Allison only chuckled at his words, the sound sharp and dismissive.
