At the Conrad house, Dempsey had been uneasy and apprehensive ever since he was forbidden to enter the hospital. He had sent a lot of men to go check it out, yet no one came back to tell him the situation. He finally got the news at night.
Seeing the man he sent came back in a hurry, he quickly asked, âHowâs the situation?â The man said, âMiss Radomil has regained her consciousness, but the child...â That was what made Dempsey worried the most, he knocked the floor with his walking stick. âWhatâs wrong with the child? Spill the bean!â
âThe childâs gone.â
âWhat!â
The man then continued, âMiss Radomil already had severe internal bleeding when she was admitted to the hospital. Only either the mother or the child could be saved, and Mr. Conrad chose to save the mother.â Dempseyâs face turned livid and he swore, âWhat a bastard!â
After blowing up for a while, he suddenly thought of something and he asked with a low voice, âHave you confirmed about this? Is the child really gone? Itâs been seven months old...the foetus should have been complete, is it really not saved?â The man nodded. âEven if itâs delivered, itâs still gonna be a dead baby. It canât be saved.â
Dempsey held his walking stick and heaved a deep sigh, waving his hand. âFine, you can go now.â After his man left, Joanna slowly walked downstairs and spoke with a neither cold nor enthusiastic tone, âStellaâs become conscious?â
Dempsey glimpsed at her and sat on the couch. He looked extremely unhappy. âYou did that, didnât you?â Joanna smiled and did not deny. She sat opposite to him. âDo you have any proof?â
âWhat are you trying to do? You know how important the child is, plus...â He lowered his voice. âDo you think Clarence wonât know itâs you who did it?
Why do you have to make matters worse until this?â Joannaâs smile slowly faded. âDo you think I want to do this? Clarence is going to marry Phoebe, why do we need to keep a trouble? Do you possibly want the child to grow up and come back to fight for the family property like Clarence?â
Dempsey snapped, âWhy do you still need to cling onto the past? Itâs been a long time ago. Plus Iâve let Annie join the Conradâs as you wish, what else are you dissatisfied of? Plus, Clarence had nothing to do with Justin getting a car accident, I donât understand the reason why you have to blame everything on him!â
âHe took what belonged to my son, how could I not blame him?â
âWhat action could I possibly take when Justin was involved in the car accident back then? The Conradâs needs an heir.â
Joanna sneered. âCould you possibly have thought that Justin would have a car accident when you had an illegitimate son outside?â Dempsey fell into silence and he did not look good at all. Joanna then continued, âEven if Clarence knows about this, so what? What else could he do to me when he has to maintain his current status and identity? I was only teaching him a lesson with the news back then.â
âHeâs had an arranged marriage with the daughter of the Steward family, Iâm afraid it would be more difficult to control him.â Joanna looked contempt.
âI thought you still canât do anything to him even without the marriage?â As she stood up and was going to leave, her expression changed when she saw Justin who showed up not knowing when.
âJustin...â Justin let out a bland smile. âI only come here when I heard you talking about Stella, now I can stop worrying when I know sheâs alright.â
After finished, he moved his wheelchair and left.
...
When Sherry returned, she saw Stella sitting on the bed and was looking through the window in a daze. She walked towards her and called her.
Stella looked towards her and smiled. âHow was him?â
âThe doctor said as long as he could make it tonight, heâll be safe.â Stella nodded and only asked after a while, âIs Modesty still in the police station now?â
âThe police said theyâre lack of evidence and they released her. But theyâve restricted her international traveling.â
âSherry, lend me your phone.â Sherry handed her phone to her and frowned, âAre you going to ask Modesty to come visit Adolph Miller? I donât think sheâll come since she kept on insisting she had nothing to do with all these.â Stella replied blandly, âWhether she wants to come or not, it has nothing to do with me informing her.â No matter what, Adolph still risked his life to save her this time, and she no longer wanted to talk about the past.
Stella dialed Modestyâs phone number. Modestyâs impatient voice was heard after the call was picked up. âIâve told you I have nothing to do with these, Sherry Perry! How many times do I have to tell you?â
âItâs me.â Stellaâs voice was soft.
Modesty probably did not expect it was Stella who made the call and was startled. She then asked in alert, âWhat do you want?â Stella said, âI just want to tell you Adolph Miller had had severe injury. Heâs now at the hospital. Do have a look at him.â Modesty only spoke after falling into silence for a while, âI donât get what you mean, and I donât know who that person youâre talking is.â
âYou can say whatever you want. Heâs admitted that it was him who did all those, and the reason he becomes like this is because of me, therefore Iâll not go over the past anymore.â Modesty did not speak and she hung up the call straightaway.

Modesty thought sheâs superior when sheâs studying abroad for a few years. As for the others, she only pays lip service.â Stella returned the phone to her, smiled and did not say anything. Sherry then continued, âDo you want to call Chan? Although he doesnât know whatâs exactly happened, heâs still worried of you.â
âMaybe not, weâll talk after I get discharged.â She would not know what to say even if she called him. Sherry sighed and patted her shoulder. âItâs all history, Stella.â That was the only thing she could say now, other words would be meaningless. âYeah, it is.â Now that the child was gone, the only connection between her and Clarence was gone too. She could finally live her life happily in the future.
Sherry asked, âThen what are you going to do later? Are you still going back to SG Jewelry?â Stella shook her head. âNo.â She only wanted to look for a place without people and live a quiet life there, keeping a distance away from grievance and gossipy.
Sherry said after thinking for a while, âLetâs travel abroad and have fun then. There are too many annoying things happening recently.â She became more and more enthusiastic as she spoke, she even started to plan for their route of traveling. Stella sat next to her and listened silently. Her smile was bland and her emotion could not be read.
Sherry only curled up on the couch when it was midnight. âIâm going to sleep, Stella, you have a rest too, goodnight.â
âOkay.â
There was only darkness when the light of the room was turned off.
