After a week passed from winning the four hundred million dollar jackpot, my dad and I stayed at a nice hotel.
We stayed there until we could move into our new home. It was located in West Village, New York.
I was excited for this weekend.
We will finally be able to move into our new home, and nothing feels better than having a fresh start in life.
But then I was annoyed since I had to start school at North Academy today.
"Do I have to stay?" I looked sadly at my dad. We waited for the principal to give my dad back my documents.
"Yes." He said seriously.
"Fine," I grumbled, folding my arms across my chest.
I tried to prolong coming here all morning, but my dad saw through all my schemes. Dammit!
My dad had registered me in the school, and I wanted to go home.
Moments later, the principal walked in and smiled at us.
My dad smiled at him, but I blankly stared at him.
"Everything checked out fine, and Katherine, welcome to North Academy."
"Well, I'm glad to be here, but that is a lie." I gave him a fake smile. My dad then hit me lightly on my arm.
"Sorry, Mr. Jackson, she didn't mean that." My dad said, trying to lighten up the mood.
"It's okay. Most newcomers were like your daughter until they got used to being here. You guys are free to go." He smiled.
"Thank you." Dad shook his hand.
"No problem." He nodded his head while he patted my dad on his arm.
At the same time, we walked out of the office, and my shoulders drooped while I dragged my feet.
Dad noticed my fake sadness and sighed. "I bet you'll love it here, and there are a lot of people here that you can make friends with," Dad said cheerily.
"Sure."
"I'll pick you up after school."
"Okay, and please pick me up on time. I want to leave as soon as possible." I rolled my eyes.
"Fine, and be good." He ruffled my hair a little while I scrunched up my nose.
"Okay, and I'm not a dog," I said jokingly. He laughed while he hugged me.
After we said our goodbyes, I was left alone in the hallway, and I sighed.
"Alright, Katherine, you can do this. Only one more year left." I mumbled to myself.
I then looked at my schedule and saw that I had psychology first.
I headed towards my psychology class and couldn't wait for it to end.
When I finally got there, I walked inside and saw that the class was close to being empty.
There were ten students, and everyone sat away from each other.
"Um, okay," I muttered.
I then sat in the front and took out my things while waiting for class to start.
Moments later, a girl ran inside the classroom right before the bell rang.
She breathed heavily. She bent over to catch her breath before sitting down next to me.
Opening up her water bottle, she gulped down the entire thing.
"Are you okay?" I asked.
"Uh yeah, I'm fine. I didn't want to get detention because of being late. And being in detention with Mr. P.enis is brutal." She fanned herself.
"That makes sense." I nodded my head.
Remembering what my dad said, I figured he was right about me trying to make new friends.
I only had a few friends in my other school since I had more associates than friends.
Nowadays, the word 'friend' is used loosely.
I thought that a friend was someone who stuck by you through good and bad times.
I didn't mind telling you the truth, no matter how much it hurt.
"What's your name?"
"Hannah, you?"
"Cool. I'm Katherine."
"Cool. I would shake your hand, but I am sweaty unless you don't mind."
"No, I don't mind. I'm big on personal hygiene," I paused for emphasis, "I guess you could call me a Germaphobe, but not to the extreme."
"That's understandable," She nodded, "Hey, are you new? I haven't seen you around here before."
"Yeah, today's my first day, and I'm excited," I said sarcastically. Uh, this school has over 1000 people, how can you?!
She laughed. "Hey, I'm not a school person, but I go anyway. You can't do anything without a high school diploma or even a bachelor's degree unless you're lucky or have connections." She shrugged her shoulders.
"That's true," I replied.
"Alright, class, I want you guys to partner up and do this assignment." Ms. George said.
"I guess we're partners." Hannah smiled, and I did the same.
"We are."
After the teacher handed out the assignment, I thought it was too easy.
I didn't need Hannah's help to finish it.
If all my classes are going to be like this, then breezing through senior year is something I wouldn't mind doing.
