ARTHUR
We were sitting together in the kitchen, drinking morning coffee, eating a croissants. She was sitting in my shirt, which was several sizes too big, so it came down elegantly, exposing her shoulder. Her hair was slightly disheveled after sleeping. She was very beautiful.
She was beautiful for the way she thinks. She was beautiful for the sparkle of her brown eyes, in which I was irretrievably lost when she was talking about something. She was beautiful for her ability to make me smile. No, she wasn't beautiful because of something temporary like her appearance. She was beautiful to the core.
Sometimes you just sit with a person over a cup of coffee and talk about some little things, but inside you feel like you're at home. Kornelia is my home.
"Why are you looking at me like that?" - she said sheepishly, pulling me away from my thoughts.
"I just can't get enough of you," â I said.
...
"I need to make some phone calls at work, and then we'll spend the day together. Just the two of us,"- I said and kissed Kornelia on the cheek while she was finishing her breakfast. She just nodded in response, saying nothing.
I entered my office, closing the door behind me. A huge number of thoughts were spinning in my head. I tried not to show it to Kornelia, but the feeling of anxiety was growing every moment. Her now ex-fiance came from one of the richest and most influential families in America. With so much money and connections, he could destroy not only my business, but also my reputation with just one phone call.
I have been building my company for the last eight years. Sleepless nights, working seven days a week, sacrificing family evenings and meetings with friends allowed me to build one of the fastest growing companies in America in recent decades. But I was willing to sacrifice everything for her. She was the most important thing.
Last night I was thinking over possible scenarios, but there was only one right decision. I had the advantage of time before Adam found out anything, so I had to act very quickly. I picked up the phone and made a few phone calls.
...
"Are you going somewhere?" - a timid voice was heard behind him. I turned around, buttoning the last button on my shirt. She stood in front of me in only a towel, her wet hair was tousled, and drops were rolling down her bare skin. She was incredibly sexy.
"I am so sorry, but there is one very urgent thing that cannot be delayed,"-Â I said, coming closer. "Give me a couple of hours, and when I've settled down everything, I'll take this towel off you to show you how much I've missed you all this time," - I whispered in her ear, and then gently kissed her neck. She closed her eyes and moaned softly, it was the best sound.
...
The last documents have been signed. Some kind of ridiculous sadness seized me, as if I had lost something really important, as if I had lost a piece of myself. But I knew what it was all about. I knew that a new chapter of my life was beginning. Stormy, bright, happy, because Kornelia appeared in it again.
I stayed longer than I had planned, but now the important issue has been settled. On the way home, I stopped at a flower shop and bought Kornelia's favorite flowers â white chrysanthemums. I've never wanted to go home so badly in my life.
Getting to the right floor, I walked in the direction of my apartment, where the love of my life was waiting for me. But walking a little closer, I noticed that the front door was ajar. A strange feeling of anxiety suddenly began to grow, I accelerated my step, when suddenly I heard a scream, and then a strong dull rumble.
I ran into the apartment and saw Kornelia sitting on the floor, curled up and covering her face with her hands. The man with his back to me swung his arm, but he didn't have time to do anything. With a quick movement of my hand, I pulled him away and knocked him to the ground. It was only then that I could make out his face, it was Adam.
The blood in my veins was boiling. I was furious. Without realizing what I was doing, I jumped on top of him and started beating him nonstop. How dare he come into my house and lay a hand on my woman. I made a few punches, the knuckles on my hand were worn down to blood, Adam already had a split eyebrow and lip.
I think I wouldn't have been able to stop if it hadn't been for his guard, who came up from behind and threw me in the opposite direction, and I hit my head hard. I heard Kornelia scream, and then she crawled over to me, trying to help me up. But everything was in vain, my head was very dizzy, and my eyes went dark. Her eyes, filled with tears, expressed fear and horror, and there was blood on her hands.
"You're all dead. I'll just destroy you all," - that was the last thing I heard from Adam. And then I lost consciousness.
