ãUncle. I want this guy to play the prince charming.ã
ãHoou hou!! Then, l leave it to you, Ian, to play Prince Malik!ã
Count Weissmall easily approved Yuaâs proposal.
ãEEeehh?! Can you even do that so lightly?! Iâm still a novice at acting, and we have the seniors around too!ã
Ian stuttered.
ãThatâs what the lead actress wants, after all. What, itâll be fine. The play weâre having this time around wonât be possible without Inglis and Yua, and theyâre both students of the Knight Academy. They donât have much experience performing either, you see. And so, there wonât be any problem with you joining in. Are you okay with it, Inglis?ã
ãYes, I donât mind.ã
To begin with, Inglis wanted Yua to choose the cast by herself, after all. No problem.
ãB-, but still!ã
ãIan. I am also interested in your qualities as a performer. With experience, Iâm sure you will be a star. Yua thinks the same too, thatâs why she chose you! Isnât that right, Yua?ã
ã? I donât get it, I just like his face.ã
Well, you wouldnât get any good answer if you asked Yua about the qualities of an actor and the like.
ãâ¦â¦Which means you have the beauty to strive for it! Take this challenge with confidence, Ian!ã
ãH-, haaâ¦â¦ã
ãJust give it a try, what could go wrong anyway? I donât know why youâre here joining a traveling troupe, butâ¦the more things you can do, the better. In fact, being needed is even better.ã
Lahti, who had been watching from the side, clapped Ianâs back.
ãPriâ¦â¦Ah, I mean, Lahti! I- I understand. Iâll give it a try!ã
ãItâs settled then! Letâs get started with the rehearsal! First, weâre going to read the script together!ã
After Count Weissmall declared so, the rehearsal fully began.
And then, after the practice for the day was overâ¦
ãSo, anyway. What the hell are you doing here to begin with, Ian?ã
Lahti asked Ian.
ãAh, Ian is me and Pullumâs friend from our hometown, yâsee.ã
He explained to Inglis and the others.
ãThen, from Alucard in the north?ã
Lahti and Pullum were foreign students that came from Alucard, a neighboring kingdom to the north. When he said that Ian was a friend from their hometown, that meant he was also from there.
ãYeah. Unlike us, this guyâs a noble with good manners, so, why a troupe?ã
ãDonât lump me in with you, Lahti. Iâm a good-mannered lady too, okay?ã
Pullum interjected from the side.
ãShut up, weâre not discussing that now. Donât cut in.ã
ãHey, Iâve gone through a lot of etiquette classes. Who do you think I did all those for?ã
ãH-, hell if I care! Iâm talking with Ian right now!ã
ãFufufu. Lahti and Pullum are close as always, huh?ã
ãJ-, just drop it already! So, what happened?ã
ãActually.. I no longer have a place to go back toâ¦â¦ã
Ian looked down, his voice was trembling.
ãEH?! Wh-, what do you mean?!ã
ãWhat happened, Ianâ¦â¦?!ã
Colors drained from Lahti and Pullumâs face.
ãMagic Stone Beasts! A huge Magic Stone Beast ravaged my familyâs mansion, my territory, my family, even the townspeople, everything was destroyed! Not only that, but it also caused a lot of damage to the Royal Capital. Although, fortunately, the Royal Family are all safeâ¦â¦ã
ãWha?! I-, I mean, itâs true that thereâs an increase in the number of Magic Stone Beasts, but still!ã
ãTo-, to think such a powerful Magic Stone Beast to appear!ã
ãâ¦â¦Glis, could it be!ã
ãYeah. I guess itâs a Prisma?ã
The country Lahti and Pullum came from, the neighboring kingdom to the north, Alucard, was a snowy country. While it was a harsh place to live, it had the advantage of having relatively little frequency of Prism Flow.
Of course, the threat of Magic Stone Beasts wasnât completely absent, but as the damage was comparatively small, there was no Hyrule Menace there. As a result, their dependence on the Highland was low, and the Highland themselves didnât seem to be actively interfering with the country either, perhaps because they didnât find the barren, cold land to be very attractive.
The amplest country in the area was evidently the Charalia Kingdom, this country where Inglis and Rafinha were. It was understandable why the two major factions of the Highland had been focusing on this country, racing to gain influence over it.
ãWas that the legendary Prisma or not, I couldnât tell. However, I remember seeing it shining in seven different colors!ã
ãTskâ¦â¦Alucard doesnât get a Hyrule Menace. If something like that showed up, thereâs no one that could put up a fight!ã
ãButâ¦â¦But, Iâm glad that Ian is okay! Really, at the very leastâ¦â¦ã
Pullum was drowning in tears, grasping Ianâs hand tightly.
ãYeah. Weâre glad youâre okay, Ian.ã
ãThank you, Lahti, Pullum! After that, when I was at a loss, it was Count Weissmall who picked me up. I always liked work of arts in the first place, and being exposed to the activities of the troupe is a good distraction.ã
ãS-, sorry, Iâ¦â¦Even though such a thing happened, I didnât know anything about it, and even said a lot of irresponsible thingsâ¦ã
ãNo, please donât worry about it. Having met you and given support by you, Lahti, has made me feel more positive.ã
Seeing them, Rafinha bit her lips hard. She whispered to Inglis with a volume that couldnât be heard by Lahti and his friends.
ãâ¦â¦Iâm frustrated. I couldnât be any help at all!ã
ãâ¦â¦Youâre so kind, Rani. But, we couldnât do anything, okay?ã
It had already happened. Not only that, it happened in a faraway country, a place they couldnât even see. Even at this moment, there should be someone, somewhere, who lost their lives to a Magic Stone Beast. This was what it meant to live on the Midland, the land which Prism Flow fell.
Rafinhaâs heart was admirable, as she was able to express her frustration over the affairs of a distant, foreign country. She was noble, compassionate, and strong. She was willing to take otherâs pain as her own, even when it wasnât necessary.
It was easy to dismiss those qualities of hers as childish innocence, but, in the end, those who retained such innocence alive were the ones who would move the hearts of many and change the world. Inglis knew this from her own experience.
So, from a parentâs perspective, Inglis wanted to continue watching over her like this, but she feared that, one day, Rafinha would say something like, âWeâll stop the Prism Flow so that everyone in this world can live in peace!â
Inglis, personally, found that Prism Flow was extremely convenient, as it produced strong enemies for her on its own, so it would be troubling if it was completely gone. Of course, she would help if that was what Rafinha wished, but would it be possible to leave just enough for Inglisâ own use? Although, Inglis had no idea if such flexibility was even possible or not.
ãThere there.ã
Yua scooted over then patted Ian on the head.
ãE-, erm? Miss Yua? What are youâ¦!ã
ãConsoling. Not working?ã
ãSenior Yua, Ianâs not a child!!ã
Said Lahti, dumbfounded.
ãThen, I know itâs early, but will you cheer up if we kissed?ã
ãEEeehh?! Wh-, what are you saying, Miss Yua?! Thatâs shameful!ã
Ianâs face turned red. He seemed to be quite the innocent person. It might not much of a consolation, but at least Yua managed to divert his mind.
ãBut, weâre going to kiss anyway? Thereâs a kissing scene at the end of the play.ã
ãEeehh?! Ah! Th-, there really is! M-, me, doing this?!ã
As he turned up to the last segment, Ianâs voice rose. The group hadnât gotten to that part in the rehearsal, so Ian probably didnât see it coming.
ãRight? Thatâs why, now, with me.ã
ãYou mustnât!ã
Inglis hastily stopped Yua.
ãMuâ¦â¦?ã
ãThatâs just for the play, not now!ã
The reason for that was if the kiss satisfied Yua now, there was a real risk that she wouldnât put her serious effort later during the fight, or even abstain from the very fight itself. If so, everything that Inglis set up until now would turn moot. She had to stop this, by all means.
ãFor the time being, letâs not play with Ian so much. This guyâs hurt pretty bad, you know.ã
ãThatâs right.ã
Hearing that from Lahti, Yua pat Inglisâ shoulder with a plop.
ãEeh?! Youâre blaming me?ã
ãYup. I mean, Iâm being serious here.ã
ãNo, I am being serious too, senior!ã
ãBoth of you! Anyway, please. Iâm begging you here. This guyâs a precious friend of mine.ã
ãYou donât need to be so mad, Lahti.ã
Ian showed an unusual smile.
ãIan?ã
ãI have to find a new way of life and move on, tooâ¦â¦Otherwise, my family and close friends wouldnât be able to have rest. Everyone here all looks cheerful and happy. If I could spend some more time with all of you, Iâm sure I will find what I seek. Please, donât mind me too much, and I look forward to working with you.ã
ãNice to meet you too! Being cheerful is my strength, you see!ã
Rafinha stepped forward and smiled at Ian. Her expression was saying that she wanted to help Ian to move forward. So long she didnât bother Ian, Inglis didnât see a reason to stop her.
ãIâm just a supporting character who dances behind Glis, but if Glis ever does anything reckless and causes trouble, just tell her on me, okay? Iâll scold her straight.ã
ãO-, okayâ¦â¦U-, understood. Thank you very much.ã
Yua who oversaw the exchange turned to Inglis then pointed at Rafinha.
ãââGuardian?ã
ãN-, no! I am the one who watches over Rani.ã
ãIs that so? Doesnât look like it though?ã
ãThatâs just your imagination. As Raniâs future Squire, I will be watching over her everything, from the way she lives her everyday life to the way she behaves on the battlefield.ã
Whilst Inglis was saying so, Ian replied to Rafinha for her remark.
ãHowever, for such a beautiful and well-mannered Miss Inglis to act recklesslyâ¦she doesnât seem like the person to do that, you know.ã
ããããNope, she does.ãããã
Everyone present all spoke in the same breath.
ãE-, eeh?! Does she really?ã
ãâ¦â¦â¦â¦ã
Itâs true that I like to do the things I enjoy in the ways I want to do it. Still, I canât recall ever being reckless, though?
ãYou werenât here before so you missed itâ¦â¦Well, youâll know soon enough. Anyway, if youâre fine with the role, then you have my support.ã
ãYes. Thank you, Lahti.ã
Ian gave Lahti a sweet smile.
