I push off his chest. âWhat? I need to get the other side!â He laughs.
âNow I know youâre fucking with me! Let me go!â I grind out through clenched teeth. Regan laughs.
âYouâre like restraining a child!â He mocks as I thrash, suddenly becoming claustrophobic in his powerful embrace. Panicking, I lash out harder, but he just laughs like he thinks itâs funny while Iâm on the verge of tears. So I bite him.
Hard.
So hard I can taste his blood in my mouth and it coats my tongue. He shoves me away, but I donât let go, my teeth embedded in his pec.
âHuman, I am warning you! Let go!â I bite down harder and he groans then growls.
âNot fucking nice, is it?â I speak with a mouthful of him between my blunt teeth. Yet the longer I hang onto him, the more of his blood I swallow. The room changes color and I feel light-headed.
âLet go or I will break your fucking teeth.â he growls âNo, you wonât, you wonât risk getting in trouble with daddy!â I taunt speaking through my teeth. A giggle escapes me, and the same strange feeling I got from Lyonâs blood slips over me. He growls, pinching my nose.
Which only causes me to giggle again, then snort when he finally rips me off. His growl is thunderous, and his blood drips on my face when he pins me to the bed, using his crushing weight to hold me there.
Yet staring up at him, he could be Zekeâs cyclops brother, only he looks funnier as his angry snarling face twists and morphs like he is a pouting Cyclops not an angry one.
âYou have one eye!â I giggle and his growling stops. He pulls away, letting me go and checking his chest.
âYou drank my damn blood, didnât you?â He growls, accusingly.
But all I can focus on is the way his eyes have blurred together, and his lips enlarged like a trout.
âHuman! Come on, snap out of it!â He leans over me, tapping my face.
âWhatâs wrong with you? You couldnât have drank that much.â
âYou have one eye.â I tell him.
âI donât have one damn eye, youâre high!â he scolds, prying my eyes open and he sighs.
âRight there!â I poke it, and he rears back, clutching his face.
âNo, that is my fucking eye!â He yells at me. I did try to tell him it was his eye! Nobody ever listens to me.
âI know, I touched it!â I admit sitting up. The moment I do, the room spins and I canât help but laugh at the tingly feeling that moves from head to two.
âNo, back in bed!â He snaps, shoving me back down.
âAnd leave my one eye alone!â He scolds.
âYou have two now!â
âGreat, the other returned.â He laughs, dropping beside me.
âDamn cannibal, youâre lucky youâre high, so I can kinda forgive you.â He snickers.
âWhose high?â He laughs, clutching me closer and the feeling after a while abates and my body gives into exhaustion, but only temporarily when I hear Gnash whine and wake me up.
âNo, boy, youâll squash her. Down!â I hear Regan whisper before hearing Gnash jump off the bed.
Regan sighs and I pull away from him, only for him to tug me back.
âHe can stay,â I tell him and Regan jumps.
âYouâre awake?â He lets me go quickly.
âHeâs covered in blood, he killed something, though I think it may be a someone by the scent,â Regan tells me and I pull a face.
âIn that case, he stays off then.â I yawn, trying to get comfortable. Yet as I try to get back to sleep, I find I canât.
âWhat time is it?â
â3 am.â
âIâve only been asleep for an hour!â I groan.
âWhy? Are you hoping to wake up so you can run to my brother?â Regan mocks.
âYeah, because Iâm so excited that the first cock I will be forced to touch is of someone I despise!â
Silence falls in the room. What I said really starts to sink in, making me feel sick. âKeep a drink in his hand. Heâll pass out after dinner. Lyon and I will try to slip him something,â Regan says.
âAlthough if he catches us, it may make things worse for you? Itâs up to you, though?â
âCanât I tell your father I donât want him and he be removed from having to participate?â
âNo, my father is stubborn. He wonât allow it. He knows Zeke will use it as an excuse, saying you never tried with him. But that is not the only reason, it is not so much about marrying you but more for us to work together I think, I donât think you choosing was the main plan of his.â
I chew my lip for a second, daring myself to ask. âCan you get me some wolfsbane?â I ask him. He scoffs.
âCertainly not. I am not handing you something that can kill us!â I roll over onto my side, knowing it is pointless.
âIâm sorry, Zirah. I canât risk giving you something like that.â
âItâs fine, Regan. Forget I even asked.â My stomach sinks further, and I know today is potentially the day I will die. Death I donât fear, but I know when Zeke does it, heâll make it as painful as possible.
Sleep does not come for me, and the dread in the pit of my stomach only worsens when I see the sky slowly lightens as a new day rises. Rolling over, I pull the pillow over my head, trying to block out the rising sun and forget about the hell I will live through over the next twenty-four hours with Zeke.
âThe pillow wonât change it being morning.â Regan breathes out. I lift the edge of the pillow and peek at him. Heâs laying on his back with his eyes closed. He appears to be trying to sleep, or maybe he was and my movement on the bed woke him.
âI need to shower to wake up, or do you want to have one first?â he asks, turning his head to look at me. I shake my head and he sighs before climbing out of bed.
âDonât you need my scent on you?â he groans and falls back down on the bed.
âFuck!â he curses, tossing his arm across his face to block the light that is slowly starting to filter in through the curtains. My eyes roam over his body. Heâs all hard and muscular, deep valleys of muscle pressed beneath taut skin.
âCan you stop staring? I can feel you watching me!â
I move to roll over when I stop turning back to him.
âWhat, human? What do you want?â
âWhy do you do that?â I ask and he groans, turning his head to glare at me.
âDo what?â
âCall me Human one minute and the next you use my name. It is annoying!â
âBecause you irritate me and I know calling you human irritates you!â he laughs softly.
âYouâre an asshole.â
âYou only just figured that out?â he laughs.
âNo!â I tell him, exhaling.
âThen why does it bother you? My brothers call you the same thing.â
Because Iâve heard you use my name, then you revert back to calling me human!â I huff.
âBecause they canât use your name?â he chuckles and I roll my eyes. Sitting up, I glance at the clock, finding it to be a little after 6 AM. Sighing, I fall back down.
âTime always seems slow when anticipating something,â he states.
âAnd what are you anticipating?â
âGetting away from you,â he answers flatly.
âYou say that, but have stopped Zeke from killing me? How many times now?â I ask him.
âBecause I want to keep my throne!â he growls.
âIs that what youâre telling yourself? Because the way I see it is, you actually like me. Probably because I, despite hating you, am the only person who isnâtââ I try to find the right words.
âRepulsed or scared of you?â I finally came up with.
âRepulsed? Wow, thanks,â he growls.
âYou kill people!â I retort.
âAnd that makes me repulsive?â
âI said I am not repulsed by you like everyone else is. Are you deaf?â I ask him.
âWell, in that case, you donât repulse me, either.â He laughs. Turning my head, I look at him.
âItâs a compliment, I promise.â he snickers.
âComing from you, I think that is the best one Iâll get. I can see why you canât find a wife with such manners,â I retort.
âNo, I canât find a wife because I would kill them and every damn woman knows that!â he snarls.
âYeah, you keep telling yourself that when I pick you to marry!â I tell him and he looks at me. He scoffs and shakes his head.
âBecause I canât have sex with you?â he asks.
âYep! I plan on keeping that Vcard until I die!â I huff.
âNot if Zeke gets his way, you wonât. In fact, youâll probably lose it sometime today?â he taunts.
âHe canât touch me!â I remind him.
âWithout your permission! Youâre easily commanded in case you havenât noticed!â he tells me. His words slowly sink in and I feel like my entire world is crashing around me.
