Chapter 256 Four words, uttered huskily with a sense of softness in it.
Flushed-face Charmine turned to walk toward the sofa and pretended to be calm. âI was worried about you being bitten by a b*tch. After all, youâre still my contract-partner.â
How were they merely contract-partners?
Anthonyâs lips curled into a small smile as he gazed at her. âCharmine, actually fancying me and worrying about me isnât a shameful thing.â
Cough, cough! What an interesting choice of words...
âFancy you, my foot!â Charmine denied him with all her heart and reiterated, âI was worried that youâd be bitten by ab*tch because of me. I didnât want to owe you anything.â
Anthony smirked faintly and did not speak. After he removed his jacket and hung it on the clothes stand, he walked toward Charmine and sat down. âIf I truly was bitten by the b*tch, would you look down on me?â
Look down on him?
Charmine frowned and instinctively asked âWhat about you?â She looked at him with a serious gaze, somewhat darker than usual.
Anthonyâs lips fell into a small frown. âAm I such a shallow being in your heart?â His soothingly deep voice needled her heart, his facial composure serious, not at all perfunctory.
Charmine almost believed him when he answered her... Still, what man in the world would not mind what happened to her?
Her red lips curled up. âWhether thatâs true or not, thatâs for you to know. However, why did you agree to meet Tiffany today? Is it because you want to know about what happened five years ago?â
Mentioning that, Anthonyâs gaze turned a shade darker. He was ready to take out his phone to show her, but his phone somehow stopped working. Anthony fixated his questioning gaze at her. âIf I say I only wanted to solve your problems, would you believe me?â
Solve her problems?
Charmine was an intelligent person; she understood most of it in mere seconds. She said to Anthony, âTiffany is just a fake person, and you canât believe whatever she says. As for what happened five years ago, itâs not a big deal, but if you want to know, I can tell you.â With that, she took a sip of water from the glass on the coffee table.
Anthonyâs eyes flickered as he noted her every move. Drinking before she spoke, she was nervous.
She was nervous because she was not ready.
Seeing that Charmine placed down the glass about to speak, Anthony said instantly, âYou donât have to tell me, though I just wish to know: Would you make decisions unwillingly because of that incident? Or do you feel pain because of it?â His questioning tone was filled with concern and seriousness. 1 Charmineâs red lips curled up a little. âIf I would, why would I spend so much time with him o n the stage last night at the ceremony? As of pain...â
Her eyes locked with Anthonyâs as she spoke with a deep tone, âThe more you ask, the more pain Iâd feel. Even after you know about it, even with your resources, you wonât be able to help me solve it.
âAnthony, as I told you before, some things in the world canât be solved with money and ability. Material things are easy to solve, but the entanglement of oneâs heart is difficult to untangle.â
It was rare for Charmine to speak to Anthony with such seriousness. Anthonyâs gaze sank a little; he had never seen Charmine speaking with such solemnity.
After a moment, he said, âI understand it now. From now onward, I wonât involve myself in this. However, if you decide to tell me one day, come do so by all means.â
Charmineâs brows furrowed. He would no longer ask questions...?
All of a sudden, Kay barged in and called out excitedly, âBoss Jordan! Somethingâs up! Something big is up! Breaking news!â
