Mythili's POV -
After that night, something definitely changed between the two of us. I started calling him Shivaay and he, well, he started looking at me and it was almost tricking me into believing that he wanted me and perhaps for the first time in my life, I had started to feel good about myself.
I wanted him to look at me the way he did because I knew for a fact that there were some feelings involved from my side which were more than anything for me currently.
I did not know what label to put on them or even if I should address them, but I wanted to continue feeling them.
Currently, I was sitting in the office, working on the social media marketing pitch for the new product launches. Shalini ma'am was going to present this later this evening to Shivaay and the other executives.
Mythili's Look -
" Mythili, where have you been lost?" My trance was broken by Ritesh, one of the recent joinees in the company and he was in the marketing department too. During these few days Himanshi, him and I had become kinda friends.
" No where. Why?" I asked him as he took a seat opposite to me and I saved my progress on the laptop.
" Because I have been calling your name out for the past three minutes now." He replied, raising an eyebrow and I felt like I had been caught red-handed.
" Nothing. Just about a few submissions in college." I lied smoothly.
Fortunately and unfortunately for me, Shivaay is somehow the only person who catches my lies. Others, simply tend it just believe me. But with him, he loves to keep me on my toes which is as much a bad thing as it is good.
" I am sure you'll do fine. Now come on, let's get going to eat. I am really hungry." He said, getting up and I followed with a nod. I was hungry too.
The thing was, all the people who worked closely with Shivaay knew that I was his wife. As for the others, I had made it my life's mission that the ones I work closely with don't find out.
" Where is Himanshi?" I asked him as we reached the canteen.
" She has gone out with Shalini ma'am for a meeting. They will have their lunch and come back by like 4." He answered while I ordered a vegetable sandwich for myself with some coffee. He ordered himself a chicken roll.
We ate and discussed one of the ongoing projects as he suggested some changes in my pitch which I told him that I'd look into but at the end of the day it was Shalini ma'am who takes all the decisions as to what would be pitched to Shivaay or not.
" Let's do a dinner tonight? What do you say? I know a good place just around the corner." He asked as we were done eating and I looked at him, confused.
" Dinner? But why?" I asked, getting up from the chair.
" Because friends have dinner together." He smiled in a playful manner, following me.
" Friends also have lunch together, which we just did. Besides, I need to get home and get started with those assignments. They won't finish themselves." I politely declined his invite with a smile.
" Mythili and her sincerity." He sighed before giving me a nod and we got into the elevator to get back to our desks. The canteen was on the fourth floor, our office was way up.
" By the way, have you done something to your hair? They look good." He spoke up and the moment he did, the elevator stopped on the seventh floor and in walked my husband, with a stoic look on his face as his eyes were digging mine before he gave an uncharacteristic glare to Ritesh and then turned around and I let out a breath which I was holding. Even his eyes were on me for one second, he managed to unsettle me just like always, leaving me craving for more.
But why was he using this elevator? He literally has his own which only he is allowed to use!
" See me in my cabin in the next five minutes." He spoke up before I could step out of the elevator.
" Yes Mr. Rathore." I replied, once again, looking at him. He had narrowed his eyes in suspicion a bit but before he could say anything further, the door shut close. Thank god!!
" What just happened? How does the boss know you?" Ritesh asked as i was frozen to my spot.
" Umm...Shalini ma'am had loved my idea on one of the projects last month so she had personally asked me to pitch that to him." I couldn't believe how easily lies were coming to me and so smoothly.
" Ohh." Was his one word reply before we parted ways and I sat on my chair, shutting my eyes closed.
What just happened?
" Buckle up Mythili. He has called you in." I spoke to myself and picking my phone up, I walked back to the elevator and stepped in to get to his floor.
" This must be about the electronics launch in London next month." I muttered to myself as his P.A. once again gave me a sweet smile before asking me to walk in but just like always, I knocked first and only made my way inside when he asked me to.
" Mr. Rathore, launch for the London showroom is on track. The stock will be reaching by tonight or tomorrow morning. Shalini ma'am has just someone on the cargo. Also, there were a few documentations...." I started throwing whatever information he needed at him but he stood up from his seat and walked to me, stopping me from speaking any further.
He was now merely inches away from me which made me take a few steps back, my eyes still on his face, trying to read what on Earth was going on in his head.
But every step that I took away from him, he kept on closing the distance between us till I could move no further and pinned to the wall.
" What are you...." He did not let me finish my sentence and kept his hand on my jaw and his thumb, playing on my lips as my eyes widened.
" Mr. Rath..." I tried to get away from him because of two reasons, the first being that if I stand like that anymore, he'll find out the intensity of his affect on me and secondly, this was office and anyone could walk in but he interrupted me once again.
" Shivaay." He asked with the usual authority that pans in his voice and words, bringing his finger up to the lock of hair lying on my face. But instead of tucking them behind my ear, he just pushed them away, tracing my cheek as a shiver ran down my spine and I couldn't hold his gaze anymore which made me look down at my feet.
" Shivaay, why am I here?" I gave in to his demand and asked him but did not look at him.
" Because I wanted to see my wife." He replied and to this, my eyes immediately found his and I blinked two-three times at him like a dumb person which earned me his soft laugh.
" See me?" I asked and then cringed at myself.
" Yes, Mythili. See you." He was most certainly enjoying this without a doubt. The smile on his face was telling me that.
" I'm glad to know that I amuse you so much." I huffed at myself more than him and trying to get away from the side but he kept his hand on the wall next to me, stopping me from escaping. His other hand had made its way up to my waist and he had pulled me even more to himself and my left hand rested on his chest and there were sparks I felt all over me. The blazing sun which was coming through the gaps of the blinds was falling at the left side of his face and I could not take my eyes off him as he leaned into me. I moved in the tiniest of senses without one single effort and our lips were so close that if I move any closer, they would touch.
He kept on leaning to me right till his lips slightly brushed the corner of my mouth, setting me ablaze on fire. The playful glint in his eyes was replaced by something darker and in the moment I realized that I wanted to kiss him. I wanted him to kiss me and this time, there was no doubt.
I moved my hands from his chest to his shoulders and stood on my toes, clutching his collar as a million butterflies erupted in my stomach.
He was looking at me like he wanted me to allow him to do what he was about to but before I could tell him that I wanted what he did, his phone went off, suddenly bringing me back to the surroundings as I heard him groan.
I backed down a bit, getting back on my feet instead of my toes and took my hands off him without making any eye contact whatsoever but I knew it for a fact that he was still looking at me.
" Your phone." I finally said, raising my eyes to look behind at his table and back to him.
" Don't I know that." He said through gritted teeth and I couldn't stop myself as a chuckle escaped me, seeing the expression on his face but he had no time to respond to my laugh as he took the call.
It must have been important considering that he was still talking ten minutes later. When I tried to leave, he held my hand and stopped me, making me sit on the chair right opposite to him.
I was trying really hard to understand what he was talking about but I kept zoning out every time I tried to hear him and my mind kept going back where we were just almost about to kiss. Here. In his office.
" Mythili, you are going crazy." I muttered to myself as I wondered why has he stopped me from leaving and made me sit here.
Giving up, I unlocked my phone and scrolled through instagram as he continued to talk. I had a few messages to answer which I did. Then I reacted to some memes which Viraj had sent me and I was just texting him to stop being a moron, Shivaay was done talking.
" Why am I still here? I have so much work to do for Shalini mam's pitch Shivaay." I whined, getting up from my seat but his one glare put me back to the same old position.
" What?" I asked after to failed to speak up anything. All he did was look at me, leaning into his chair with a smirk playing on his lips. He was studying me. Something he really liked to do with people.
" You are nervous." He finally spoke up and addressed my first hand embarrassment.
" I am busy." I replied, failing to stop the damn blush as I looked away, bringing my hair locks to my face in a failed attempt to hide myself from his eyes.
" Is your boss making you work too hard?" He asked and just like that, his playfulness was back. Once, which I had noticed, was only reserved for me and as much as I felt special because of it, there was a strange fear of losing it after getting used to it.
" No. My boss is alright. It's my husband who is currently not letting me fulfill my commitments for the day." I absolutely had no idea from where and how were these comebacks coming to me and from where was the confidence to voice them out was coming either but I was enjoying myself.
" Well that is too bad because your HUSBAND wants to take you out on a date tonight." He said, without as much as blinking as he kept a straight face.
" I am going to have to politely refuse Mr. Rathore." I felt a sense of giddiness within which I never had when he said those words that he did but I had decided one thing and I was going to stick to it.
" And why is that Mrs. Rathore?" He asked, raising a brow. He wasn't offended in the least, just curious.
" Because first, it will be me who will first take you out on a date but since I have almost exhausted all the money I had for this month, that date will have to wait." I confessed in front of him and he sat up straight in his chair.
" Where is the credit card I gave you? You have not even used it once ever since I gave it to you six months back." He asked as his brows furrowed, waiting for me to answer.
" I...I didn't need to." I looked away before replying.
" Mythili I know that you have been curtailing your needs instead of using the damn money, your money." He said.
" It's not my money." The words slipped without I could stop them.
" Of course you think that." He sighed, getting out of his chair and coming to me. He took my hand in his and made me stand up in front of him.
" Look at me." He said but instead of waiting for me to do it, I found his finger on my chin as he made me look at him in the eye.
" I am your husband and what is mine is yours by default. Everything I own is yours too Mythili and that includes money." He said in the calmest voice possible.
" But I don't want to be dependent on you like that when I can manage without it." I told him with all my honesty as to what I think. Something I have been doing quite frequently now because lying to him makes no sense because he always finds out.
" Let me make a deal with you." He said after a few seconds of silence where he thought of something before making me sit back again and he kneeled on his one knee in front of him. My hands resting on my lap and his hands held mine as we looked at each other.
" Deal? What deal?" I asked and he gave me a genuine smile.
" Let me take care of your needs till you finish your studies and start working and In return, you prove yourself to me that my investment in you is the best one I've made in my life." His words always hold so much value to them and more often than not, shock me.
" I'll make you proud." I whispered with his hands in mine as I gave him a small smile.
" You already are doing that." It was perhaps his attempt to reassure me and it worked.
" But we're still not going on that date this month." I changed the topic
" Not happening Mrs. Rathore. Our deal is for your career. I don't recall any clause about me not taking you out on a date until then." He said as he placed a small kiss on the knuckles of my right hand before standing up on his feet. I followed.
" But I wanted to take you out on our first date." I pouted like a silly girl.
" I fear our first date is long past done Mythili." He replied with a small shrug.
" What? When? No. It has not." I answered, completely confused.
" Every night that we have dinner together is a date for me. You make me feel at peace. You make me want to be a better man whenever I am with you so yes Mrs. Rathore, we have had multiple dates till now." OH MY GOD. This man can kill me with his words, most definitely set me on fire and that's exactly what he did as I found myself flushed and a blushing mess in front of him.
" Will you please tell me now why did you call me here?" I tried to change the topic again for my sake.
" Because I needed to see you." His smirk told me that there was some other reason too.
" And?" I asked, raising a brow.
" Give me your hand." He asked as he extended his in front of me.
" Why?" I narrowed my eyes in suspicion.
" You ask too many questions." He said as he helped himself with my hand took a box out of his pocket which had the most beautiful diamond bracelet and I just couldn't take my eyes off it until he was putting it on.
The Bracelet -
" Shivaay I.....but I don't need a bracelet." I told him the truth.
" No one needs a bracelet Mythili." He replied, chuckling while putting it on my wrist.
" But this seems....." I protested again and he kept his index finger on my lips again as he had made me wear it.
" Shh. I am not going to stand here and justify myself about gifting something to my wife." He said in a no nonsense tone, shutting me up.
" I love it." I said, taking his hand in mine and stood up on my toes, placing a feather light peck on his right cheek and then quickly withdrew and looked back at the bracelet.
" There was one more thing I called you here for." He said grabbing my attention from the bracelet to himself once again and I looked at him questioningly.
He picked a file which was lying on his desk and handed it over to me.
" All the financial details about the London launch next month are in here. I want you to read it thoroughly because you will be going with me for the launch." He dropped the bomb so casually and smoothly as if he wasn't giving me the biggest career opportunity that anyone could have gotten and to say that I was stumped would be a huge understatement.
I opened the file and then looked at him again, still not believing this.
" For real?" I asked, completely taken aback.
All he did was give me a small nod with an encouraging smile and I threw my arms around his neck, failing to contain my excitement!
The bracelet was the second best gift I had received from him today!!
