âA star shooting across the sky yields not to the wishes of those that gaze upon it.â
âWhat?â Lily asked.
âI mean that I donât want you to get hurt, but itâs not like you would listen to me anyway,â Meimei replied, looking sternly towards Lily.
Lily looked away from Meimei and back towards the twinkling stars of the dark blue sky above them.
âItâs true that Leida is a bad match up for me, but if I canât even beat her how could I fight against demons? Every demon will be a bad match up for me.â
âActually, I think you are a bad match up for the demons. Demons canât Silent Cast or Quick Cast. That is the entire purpose of Magical Swordsmanship, exploiting that weakness.â Meimei replied.
Meimei leaned against the porcelain railing of the intricate balcony that the two stood on. Lily looked over at Meimei and then back towards the stars.
âI know; thatâs why I learned it, even though it is really weak against other human magicians.â
âMost demons canât,â Meimei said while looking over at Lily with a concerned look. âIf you ever encounter an Archdemon or a Devil you should just flee. They have every strength of a demon without any of the weaknesses.â
âMmm. I know.â
Lily discreetly scooted closer to Meimei, pausing for a moment before sneaking her arm around Meimeiâs waist. Meimei responded by leaning her head on Lilyâs shoulder.
âSay, once you graduate from the academy you are planning to become an independent demon slayer and travel the world, right?â Meimei asked.
âThatâs the plan,â Lily answered, reaching up with her right hand to stroke Meimeiâs hair.
Meimei didnât respond, looking off into the distance. Lily looked at her and then out to where she was looking.

âIâd like my future to include you too, of course,â Lily said quietly.
Meimei stayed silent for a moment longer before responding to Lily.
âIâm tired of death.â
Lily smiled at Meimei.
âWell, I have always imagined you as a housewife anyway, to be honest.â Lily giggled a bit at her own imagined scenario.
âThat wouldnât be so bad,â Meimei said with a melancholy tone.
Lily looked towards Meimei and frowned.
âIs everything okay?â Lily asked with a sigh.
âWhat do you think of me?â Meimei asked, looking into Lilyâs eyes.
Lily returned Meimeiâs gaze.
âI think you are the most beautiful and pure person I have ever met. You are the closest to an angel I think I will ever see in my life.â Lily gave Meimei a big smile.
Meimei grimaced before smiling.
âI think you are a bit naïve, but your innocence is one of the things I love about you.â
âThat felt like a bit of a backhanded compliment, but I will take it.â
Lily and Meimei laughed together. Although Meimei and Lily had very different personalities, they were surprisingly compatible. Lily pulled Meimei in closer, giving her a gentle kiss on the lips. Meimei looked up into Lilyâs eyes, smiling lovingly. After a brief moment Meimei hugged Lily tightly, leaving no space between the two.
âIâd like to stay like this forever, but I know you want to strategize for your match against Leida,â Meimei said with a hint of sadness.
âSure, but I do have something that you can help me with,â Lily teased while playing with Meimeiâs hair.
âWhat is that?â Meimei asked curiously.
âWell, you see, there is an old tradition that I would like to teach you about.â
âLike a dance or something?â Meimei asked innocently.
âSure, you could call it a dance,â Lily giggled.
Meimei released Lily and pushed back slightly, glaring at her.
âI think I know where this is going,â Meimei said coldly.
âWell?â Lily smiled.
âYou donât need to hide your desires from me,â Meimei whispered softly.
Lily blushed at Meimeiâs assertiveness.
âI think youâre the one that is hiding her desires,â Lily said, trying to tease Meimei back.
âYou donât even know the half of it,â Meimei responded, moving back in to fill the space between herself and Lily.
Lily gently rubbed Meimeiâs back.
âIâll be okay, you donât need to be so nervous.â
Meimei sighed, looking down at the ground.
âI really canât hide anything from you.â
âNope! Thatâs why I like you so much!â Lily said with a big grin. âAh, anyway, letâs move this back to my dorm. I do actually want to talk to you about some strategy stuff.â
Meimei eyed Lily for a moment.
âYou donât need to make excuses. I already made plans with my dorm mother to not come back tonight.â
âOh.â Lily said with a giggle.
Lily took Meimeiâs hand, walking with her down the many long school corridors.
