Gideon expertly drove the car into an alley.
âYou sure is this place?â Lena was surprised as she looked around. There was not a restaurant at all.
Gideon chuckled softly and led Lena further into the alley.
After several twists and turns, the two arrived at a courtyard house.
The gate of the courtyard was very unassuming, with a plaque with the word âNamelessâ.
As soon as they entered, a handsome chef approached them.
He sized up Gideon and Lena with unclear meaning. âKiddo, what are youâ¦â
Lena, hearing the man, realized that he must be quite familiar with Gideon and gave him a sidelong glance.
Gideon glared at the man irritably. âUncle Jeffrey, if you donât go cook now, Iâm going to tell Grandma youâre starving her granddaughter-in-law.â
Jeffrey didnât expect Gideon to reveal Lenaâs identity so bluntly, and his gaze towards Lena softened a bit. âAre you hungry? Dinner will be ready quickly.â After saying that, he turned and left. Lena was still processing the fact that the man was Gideonâs uncle. She looked at Gideon incredulously. âHeâs your uncle?â Was she meeting his family like this? Gideon soothingly took Lenaâs hand. âDonât worry. My uncle isnât the talkative type. If youâre not ready to meet my family, Iâll make sure he doesnât tell anyoneâ¦â Although Gideon sounded gentle, Lena inexplicably detected a hint of grievance in his words.
Feeling both amused and exasperated, she said, âWhen did I say I wasnât ready? Itâs just that it all happened so suddenly, and you didnât let me know in advanceâ¦â
Speaking of this, Lena suddenly remembered her own disheveled appearance, and it had all been seen by Gideonâs uncle.
âIâm looking like this!â She was both angry and anxious. Who would make such a ragged first impression in front of the elder?
Seeing that she was really about to lose her temper, Gideon quickly tried to soothe her. âIâll explain everything to my uncle, so donât worry!â
Lena glared at him annoyedly, as it was pointless to discuss anything further now that things had come to this point.
While the two were talking, Jeffrey also came in with some dishes.
He looked at Lena gently. âI didnât know what you liked, so I had a few of our popular dishes prepared.
If thereâs anything you donât like, Iâll have it changed right away.â
Lena repeatedly shook her head and said, âIt was really rude of me to come here in such a hurry. I am really sorry.â
Jeffrey seemed not to notice Lenaâs dishevelment, shaking his head. âGideon has never brought a girlfriend home before, and my sister even started to think he was into men. Itâs already great that youâve appearedâ¦â
Lena noticed Jeffreyâs disdain was not feigned and looked at Gideon with amusement.
For someone like Gideon, who was always gentle and refined in front of others, she did not expect him to be so disliked by his family.
Gideon also touched his nose and told Jeffrey about what had just happened.
Jeffreyâs expression immediately darkened as he said, âSuch a person must never be allowed to come out and harm others again. Rest assured. I will handle it well.â
As he spoke, he placed a full plate of various seafood on the table in front of Lena. âItâs good. You should try it.â
Before Lena could reach for it, Gideon stopped her.
He looked at Jeffrey and seemingly casually said, âShe canât eat these. Sheâs pregnant.â
