Chapter 785 A Night of Secrecy
Just as Martha was about to approach Charlotte, Joe suddenly said to
Charlotte, âArenât you feeling unwell? Maybe you should go upstairs and rest.â
Charlotte paused, immediately understanding Joeâs meaning.
She nodded, âOkay.â
Watching Charlotte head upstairs without looking back, Martha subtly frowned
and casually asked Joe, âHas her memory not returned yet?â
Joe responded, seemingly a bit troubled, âDr. Twain said her case is difficult
and requires long-term treatment.â
Marthaâs eyes shifted, âDr. Twain? Is he reliable?â
âMy friend recommended him; there wonât be any problems,â Joe said
confidently. Martha was slightly relieved and nodded, âAs long as heâs
reliable, psychological issues are not to be taken lightly.â
Now she looks like a mother worried for her children, Joe sneered inwardly.
âBen and Annaâ¦â Martha hesitated, looking around and not seeing any sign of them. âThey went to visit friends with Sir Smith,â Joe said lightly. After failing to see the children several times, even Martha understood that Joe was deliberately keeping them away from her.
However, she was very confused. Since they met, she had been very gentle toward them and even restrained her behavior for fear of raising Joeâs suspicions. So why was Joeâs attitude always indifferent? âIâ¦â Martha wanted to voice her grievances, but when she met Joeâs deep gaze, she put those thoughts away. She looked down, hiding her emotions, and said softly, âIâll leave first, then. If the children come back, Iâll visit them.â
Joe remained indifferent, watching Martha leave.
Stepping out of the villa, Martha walked to her car. Just as she opened the door, she saw Hope sitting inside.
Hope looked gloomy and frowned, asking Martha, âHe still didnât let you see
the two children, right?â
Martha silently nodded.Books Chapters Are Daily Updated Join & Stay Updated For All Books Updatesâ¦
She suddenly looked at Hope, âCould it be that he resents me for not being by his side all these years?
Is that why he is treating me like this?â
Hope grabbed her hand, âOf course not. Itâs just that after so many years apart, getting closer naturally requires more effort.â Martha immediately leaned on Hopeâs shoulder, looking doubtful, âReally?â âOf course.â A hint of coldness flashed in Hopeâs eyes, âIt seems we need to take more drastic measures.â
Martha looked up at him, âWhat should we do?â
Hope touched her hair, saying softly, âLeave it to me. You just need to be happy.â Marthaâs eyes immediately filled with emotion, âYouâre so good to me.â
Hope smiled meaningfully, âYouâre my wife; if Iâm not good to you, who should
I be good to?â
The two kissed immediately.
After Martha left, Joe went upstairs and saw that the door to Charlotteâs room
was ajar. He decided to go in and check on her.
As he entered, he saw Charlotte sitting in an armchair, fast asleep.
A book on psychology was beside her hand.
Looking at her peaceful sleeping face, Joe felt a slight emotion.
Maybe forgetting the past was a better choice for her.
He turned to find a blanket to cover Charlotte, but suddenly saw beads of
sweat appearing on her forehead, and her brows were tightly furrowed.
Obviously, she was having a nightmare.
He was about to comfort her when he saw Charlotte suddenly grab his wrist,
looking intently at him.
