Ben and Anna rushed into Charlotteâs arms like two small missiles.
This separation was probably the longest they had been apart from Charlotte since their birth.
Especially when Charlotte had forgotten their existence before leaving, it had made Ben and Anna very uneasy.
Now, finally seeing their beloved mom, they couldnât hold back any longer.
Both of them quietly wiped away their tears in Charlotteâs embrace. Anna, in particular, softly hugged Charlotteâs neck and choked out, âMom, do you remember us now?â
Annaâs sad voice was like an arrow piercing Charlotteâs heart.
Her eyes immediately welled up with tears, and her throat tightened.
âDonât worry, Iâll never forget you,â Charlotte held them tightly and refused to let go.
Seeing the two childrenâs reactions, the others present also couldnât help but get teary-eyed, and Joe felt a lump in his throat.
Sensing the atmosphere turning somber, Trevor stepped forward, clapping his hands twice, âAlright, alright, today is a birthday party, not some melancholic scene⦠for those who didnât know, it might seem like a tearful gathering.â
He casually gestured to a few nearby waiters, instructing them to bring out the prepared cake and balloons.
The waiters acted swiftly, and as the lights lit up everywhere, the subtle sadness that had lingered in the air vanished instantly, replaced by joy.
Lena smiled as she approached, with Gideon attentively guarding her, afraid that anything unexpected might happen to her.
Now that Charlotte had remembered her past school days, she had grown close to both of them.
âIâve always seen Gideon as someone in the prime of life. Who would have thought heâd have a day like this?â Charlotte said mockingly.
Several months had passed, and Lenaâs belly had swelled like an inflated balloon. Even before Gideon, when Charlotte saw her, she was astonished.
âLena, youâ¦â
When Lena knew what she wanted to ask, Charlotteâs words hadnât even left her mouth.
With a helpless sigh, Lena replied, âI know what you want to ask. Thereâs really only one child inside, but⦠Itâs just a bit chubby.â
âWhen we went for the check-up today, the baby was already nine pounds,â Gideon said with resignation.
Charlotte was thoroughly shocked by this number, which was beyond her expectations.
She pursed her lips and said, âBen and Anna, combined, were only ten pounds when they were born.â
No wonder Gideon was being so careful; delivering a baby of this weight vaginally would be quite challenging.
Lena didnât dwell on this matter too much. For her, everything was as it was now, and she would follow the doctorâs instructions.
âHave all your memories fully returned now?â Lena asked Charlotte with concern.
Charlotte hesitated for a moment and shook her head.
âI still havenât been able to recall the memories of the past year or so,â Charlotte honestly replied.
Lena couldnât help but chuckle.
âSeems like Joe is really unlucky,â Lena said, though her gloating eyes betrayed her true feelings. âHe finally won back his wife, was on the verge of victory, and then his mother intervened. As a result, his wife completely forgot about him.â
While going through these experiences, it didnât seem so bad, but now that Lena brought it up, Charlotte couldnât help but feel a bit sorry for Joe.
