Following Charlotteâs guidance, Joe also spotted the small figure of Samuel
near the crevice.
âItâs actually better that he hasnât regained consciousness yet,â Joe furrowed
his brow. âIf he wakes up and struggles violently, he might continue to fall
further down, and thenâ¦â
Although he didnât finish his sentence, Charlotte understood his meaning.
âWe should notify the team leader first,â she suggested.
Charlotte took out the walkie-talkie given to her by the team leader and
contacted them.
Enter titleâ¦
âWeâve located Samuelâs position. Please come to our marked location,â
Charlotte briefly informed the team leader about Samuelâs situation. On the
other end of the walkie-talkie, the team leader sighed in relief.
No matter what, the fact that the child was still alive was good.
The team leader said they would arrive within ten minutes, and Joe and
Charlotte felt slightly relieved.
However, at that moment, the sky suddenly became overcast.
Charlotte furrowed her brow, looking up at the rapidly gathering dark clouds
overhead, a sense of foreboding creeping into her heart.
âThis weatherâ¦â
Charlotte had just turned to look at Joe when a strong wind started blowing
around them.
The winds in Antarctica were unlike those inland. These winds were
extremely fast and carried plenty of snowflakes and ice shards, which stung
when they hit.
Charlotte and Joe hadnât expected the weather to change so rapidly, and both of them saw the seriousness of the situation in each otherâs eyes.
âLetâs find a place to shelter from this wind,â Charlotte frowned as she said to
Joe.
Leaving aside the fact that they still had to watch over Samuel here, even if
they wanted to leave now, the wind would make it impossible for them to
move.
Joe nodded in agreement, surveying their surroundings. He spotted a crevice
formed by glacial rocks that could fit the two.
He pulled Charlotte along, taking slow and cautious steps toward the crevice.
Soon, they realized that their decision had been spot on.
As the wind grew stronger, visibility dropped significantly, and the snowflakes
and ice shards became even more dense, almost enveloping them.
They might have been blown away if they hadnât taken shelter in this crevice.
Charlotte looked towards the crevice with great concern.
With such a strong wind, she couldnât help but worry about Samuel.
Joe sensed her thoughts and bent down to hug her. âWeâve done our best.
If⦠well, sometimes thereâs nothing we can do.â
Seeing Charlotteâs spirits sinking, Joe spoke to her again, âHowever, that
crevice is quite deep, and heâs securely wedged in the middle of it. As long as
he doesnât struggle too much, he should be safe.â
After all, the wind couldnât bend down and blow directly into the crevice.
Hearing Joeâs words, Charlotte knew he was trying to reassure her, and she
could only nod in agreement, saying, âLetâs hope for the best.â
Initially, they thought the wind would come and go in bursts, but it turned out
that it showed no signs of stopping. Instead, it was growing stronger by the
minute.
Even though they were sheltered in the crevice, both of them frowned.
âIf this wind doesnât stopâ¦â
Charlotteâs anxiety grew stronger, and she held Joe tightly.
She suddenly regretted suggesting that they go and find Samuel. Joe
wouldnât be in this predicament with her if she hadnât.
âIâm sorryâ¦â Charlotte looked at Joe with guilt, but he shook his head.
âWe found the child, didnât we? Once the wind stops, theyâll come to rescue
us quicklyâ¦â Joeâs words were cut short as a massive rock came hurtling
toward them in the howling wind.
Charlotteâs eyes widened in terror. âWatch out!â
