Jerome had long prepared himself for a thorough scolding from Charlotte and
Joe, among others. Surprisingly, they just glanced at him indifferently and quickly walked away, avoiding him.
Such a reaction made him feel even worse than a harsh rebuke.
âDirector Fenton, shall we go and take a look first?â Seeing Jeromeâs uneasy
expression, Terrence hurriedly whispered, âMaybe the children have just
wandered off for a moment, and we might find them soon.â
Jerome watched the parentsâ retreating backs and sighed heavily, âLetâs go.â
By the time the parents arrived, all the cameramen were frantically searching.
Each one of them was panting and drenched in sweat. Yet none dared suggest
stopping the search, always thinking that if they had immediately acted upon
seeing the children disappear, perhapsâ¦
They exchanged glances, but nobody dared to utter those words.
âHow did the children go missing?â Charlotte approached the cameramen with a
stern face, her hands clenched tightly into fists, obviously struggling to suppress
her anger.
The cameramen hesitated for a moment, then nervously revealed the truth.
âSo, you just watched as three four-year-old kids disappeared into the cornfield,
and expected them to come out on their own!â Charlotte looked at the
cameramen with utter disdain.
Normally, her attitude toward the staff was very gentle; this was the first time they
had seen her this stern. The cameramen suddenly realized that they often filmed
the top professionals in various fields. Offending them could beâ¦
The cameramen couldnât help but shudder.
After making a few calls, Joe came over and put his hand on Charlotteâs shoulder, âI have already had Jack bring people here. Letâs start searching.â
Charlotte gave the cameramen one final piercing look and then turned to enter
the cornfield.
Jerome, who arrived shortly after, pointed angrily at them and said, âYou all might
as well change your professions.â
The cameramenâ faces immediately turned pale.
Although the cornfield wasnât small, it was also not endlessly vast.
Charlotte, Joe, and several other parents, together with the staff, searched it
thoroughly but still couldnât find any trace of the children.
Charlotteâs heart slowly sank.
Was it possible that the children were no longer in this cornfield?
Jack arrived quickly, bringing not just a team of 30 professional rescuers, but also
a hundred-bodyguard team. Even Erik, Gorya, and Mandy rushed over.
After Erik and Gorya walked around the cornfield, they approached Charlotte with
serious faces, âThe children seem to have encountered another group of people
in the cornfield and were taken away by them.â
Though the kidnappers tried to cover their tracks, they couldnât outsmart Erik and
the others, who still found some clues.
The cameramen had secretly been hoping that if the children had just wandered
off on their own, maybe they wouldnât bear all the responsibility.
But nowâ¦
The children were snatched away right under their noses; they no longer had the
luxury of comforting themselvesâ¦
âContact the police, and seal off all nearby roads and public transport. If there are
not enough police, our people will help,â Joe said gravely to Jack.
Jack nodded repeatedly and quickly retreated to make phone calls.
