Lee busted into my house breathless and hauling a huge suitcase with her. I was so surprised I almost dropped the glass I was holding.
I had texted her less than fifteen minutes ago and it usually took twenty five minutes to get here from her place. Had she flown?
"I'm here, I'm here. But let me catch my breath first." She wheezed out clutching her chest bent over as her other hand held her knee.
"Why are you so out of breath? How did you even get here so fast?" I questioned her as I grabbed the suitcase from where she had dropped it.
She held up one finger asking me to hold on as she caught her breath. I shrugged before placing the suitcase on top of my bed opening it and started placing everything I'd folded inside.
"Okay I'm good now." Lee finally breathed out "I got here as fast I could because you texted me 911 and that's for emergencies only so what's up. Who died?" She asked me.
"There was no emergency Lee. Check my desk." I instructed.
"If there was no real emergency why did you text me 911?"She asked grabbing the envelope with her name.
I didn't answer her, I just hid my smile and watched for her reaction. She took everything out, went through it carefully then returned everything. She did the same with my envelope then went really quiet. I became worried, this was not a normal Lee reaction when she got big news. Then a shrill scream erupted from her tiny body and I knew I had spoken too soon. She then started jumping up and down shouting.
"Lee keep it down. You'll attract attention." I whisper yelled at her.
"Don't you shush me. These documents are everything we need to travel, this saves us weeks of going office to office getting them. Wait a minute. This has Mason Baraka written all over it. Was he here? Is he still here?" She whispered that last part glancing at my bathroom door.
"No Lee he isn't here and this isn't his doing. Okay he had something to do with it. His mother brought them." I explained.
Lee looked shocked for a second before she quickly snapped out of it.
"His mother. Now it kind of makes sense. I saw this really expensive car on my way here, had foreign plates on it. That must have been her." She said
"Probably." I shrugged as I continued packing.
"Oh no! You don't get to just drop that on me and expect me to let it go. Spill." She demanded.
"Okay fine. Get this she came to........" And I narrated the whole ordeal to Lee.
By the time I was done Lee's mouth hang open in shock as she sat in the same spot Marie was seated on less than an hour ago.
"Wow just wow." Lee said shocked.
"That's all you have to say." I asked laughing.
"Give me a minute to process."
"You know this means we don't have to go to Nairobi tomorrow."I mentioned.
"O. M. G your right. So what will we do for the next six weeks?" Lee asked.
"We could go for a mini vacation before we have to leave. Maybe do one of those road trips around the country that we've always talked about. You can even invite Jake. You can can stock up on memories to enjoy while you are apart." I suggested.
Lee stood up and pulled me into a quick hug before kissing my cheek.
"You are a genius and that is one of the many reasons why I love you." she replied excitedly.
"Then it's settled. Road trip it is." I finalized.
"Are you sure you'll be okay being a third wheel. Now that Masons mom kind of likes you then maybe you can fix everything." She suggested.
"Maybe. I don't know. For now let's get ready we have to get to the party. Mason will be tomorrow's problem." I said quickly changing the subject and thankfully it worked.
"You know I never drink alcohol because of the taste but George promised me some awesome fruit tasting alcohol that I want to try tonight. Am glad you and Jake will be there because for my first time getting drunk I want people I trust watching out for me to make sure I don't do anything stupid."Lee explained.
"I've got your back girl. Now let's dress up. I need to let loose after this past month." I replied.
"A girl after my own heart." Lee replied as she grabbed a bag which had a few outfits for her.
We were going to enjoy this party because we owed it to ourselves after the long semester we'd had. I would deal with Mason tomorrow. For now I just wanted to have fun and let loose.
********************************************
We had been at the party for almost an hour and I was having the best time. The party was being held at a party hall that students rented out for this kind of thing. It had two floors but people usually used the ground floor. The upper floor was just a silent bar that had a huge balcony that anyone could use to get some air. I stood by one of the pillars at the corner of the room talking to George. He was drunk but not as much as Lee was. She was still on her feet which was good and she wasn't throwing up so another plus. Dressed in a baggy tee that reached mid thigh, tiny jean shorts and knee length socks she looked great. For a first time drinker she was holding her alcohol quite well. George had brought her the alcohol he had promised and Lee has downed it like it was soda.
Needless to say she had gotten drunk pretty quickly. Right now she was on the dance floor grinding into Jake who was slightly tipsy. I knew she was in safe hands. I was the only one having soda at this party and for once I was okay with it. I had just gotten off the dance floor and I decided I needed some air.
"George do me a favor. Please tell Lee and Jake that I'll be on the balcony in case they need me. I need some air."
"Okay girlie I'll do that." George slurred and before I could say thank you he was off towards Lee's direction.
I shrugged before taking the stairs to the first floor. It was quieter up there away from all the noise and music. I found a quiet spot and sat down. I had decided on the romper so when the cold floor touched my bare thighs I hissed but I soon got used to it. I took of my shoes and leaned back in the wall before closing my eyes and humming along to the song playing downstairs. Before I got clean by this time I would be so drunk I couldn't see straight and would be dancing on any available high surface . That was not a life I wanted to go back to. I also knew Lee wouldn't ever do this again after the terrible hangover she would get tomorrow, one thing Lee hated more than pain is the medicine to get rid of the pain. She would be okay though.
It was getting a little more cold up here and I groaned realizing my jacket was downstairs. I didn't want to go back down there then come up here again.
I smelt him before I even saw him, it was a little windy up here making his accent waft into my nose. His cologne wasn't the strong kind that choked you up but the masculine scented one that made you wanna sniff him all day.
"I thought you might need this." Mason said handing me my jacket.
"Thank you." I said looking up at him.
He looked so tall towering over me. I took the jacket and put it on. Mason looked unsure of what to do. Stay or leave.
"Sit down Mason. You know I love your height but you look like a tower right now."
"Sorry I didn't know what to do." He apologized and he sat down leaning against the railing so we sat facing each other our legs touching.
He looked better than last I had seen him. He still looked vulnerable but his body posture was confident and I liked that. Strong Mason was making a come back and I wanted that for him. He looked so handsome. His hair was a curly mess on top of his head and he wore all black as usual. Dark jeans, black T-shirt and a black denim jacket over his bold shoulders completed with a pair of black AirMax sneakers.
"You look beautiful." He complimented staring at me especially at my hair.
Mason had as much fascination with my hair as I had with his. My hair was currently straightened out to its full shoulder length and was in a pony tail.
"Thank you. You look good too." I replied and he smiled at me and nodded without replying.
Mason was always never good with compliments. He knew he had the looks and that was the end of it. He didn't like putting emphasis on it.
"So my mom told me she came by earlier today." He began carefully.
"Its okay Mason, I'm not mad you told her where I lived, I'm glad she came by. At least she didn't go full African mom on me this time. We talked and we hashed out all our differences." I explained.
"That's really great to hear but why didn't you reach out after you guys talked." He asked sounding a little hurt.
I hated hearing him with that tone of voice.
"I really wanted to but I didn't know how. It's been a month, you know how awkward I am in these kinds of situations. And you know I never text first unless it's for food."
That made Mason laugh. Now that was a face I liked seeing on him. Mason happy and smiling.
"Yeah I know. I missed you B." He said looking down.
And he was back to being vulnerable again. I did not like that look. Before either of us knew what was happening I had crawled onto his lap, took his face in my hands and kissed him.
The moment our lips touched it was like an animal zoo broke loose in my stomach. He tasted like soda. Mason didn't take more than a few seconds to react when he put his hands around my waist and pulled me flush against him. We started off innocent our lips just dancing together in a familiar rhythm until Mason roughly grabbed my ass making me moan and open my mouth for him. Our tongues met and both of us moaned as we practically swallowed each other whole. I don't remember ever having a kiss this intense with Mason.
After I don't know how long we pulled apart gasping for breath out foreheads against each other.
"God I missed you." Mason rasped out.
"I missed you too." I replied.
"So what does this mean?" Mason asked me.
"It means that I still love you." I told him.
"I love you too." He replied and I pecked his lips. "So does this mean we pick up from where we left?" He asked.
"Oh no buddy. You're not getting off that easy. You start from scratch wooing me again." I teased and he laughed.
" I have no objections to that but you are leaving soon." He said his voice lowering a little.
He was sad I was leaving. I was sad too.
"Mason do you trust me?" I asked looking him in the eyes.
"With my life." He replied.
"Then if you're willing to wait for me I will be back in time for your graduation and then I'm all yours." I explained.
Mason didn't like that "Why can't I come with you?" He whined.
"Because one it's not a vacation but school. Two I want to experience this alone, maybe with Lee, even Jake isn't coming and we know those two are joined to the hip. Three you have an internship to attend in order to graduate." I reasoned.
Mason groaned out loud and placed his head on my shoulder.
"I hate it when you're right." He said his sound muffled by my jacket.
"I know." I replied laughing.
"As long as you promise to always keep me updated. Video calls all the time and do not forget me please." He begged.
"I would never forget you handsome." I replied my voice laced with conviction
Mason looked up at me before pulling me in for another kiss. This one was slow and passionate revealing every single feeling he couldn't put into words.
"So how would you like to join me, Lee and Jake for a road trip around the country for the next five weeks before we leave." I asked him when we pulled apart.
"I would love to." He replied with a smile.
"Good because there was no other correct answer." I joked making us laugh and kiss again.
We were interrupted by a drunk Lee.
"Look it's Masenos power couple back together again. Yipee. Did you tell him about the road trip Lee? Maybe he can get us one of those beautiful jeeps we see in movies to tour with." Lee slurred before she and Jake who was supporting her sat next to us mimicking our position except Lee was like a baby being held by Jake.
"Yes Lee I told him and he is coming but no jeep." I replied.
"Aaawh too bad." She said hiccuping.
"I can actually make the jeep happen." Mason said.
"Yes! If I didn't have a boyfriend I could totally kiss you right now." Lee said making us all laugh and Jake pull her closer to to him.
"Hands and thoughts off my man Lee." I warned and she put her hands up in surrender or at least she attempted to.
"Sorry." And she hiccuped again making me smile.
"I like being drunk its fun." Lee said.
"Enjoy it because after tomorrow morning you'll never drink again." I informed her.
"Why?" She asked curiously.
"You'll see." I said and she nodded.
It went silent after that as we just sat there enjoying the breeze. Everything was finally working out for me. I had my man back and my dream to study abroad was possible. As I laid in said man's hands I couldn't help but be happy that he was all mine again and I would never let him go.
He was back to being my Mr. Perfect and I was irrevocably and undeniably in love with him.
THE END!!!!!!!!!!!
