âNo. You know Iâm rich and powerful. If I had that thought, I wouldâve done it, wouldnât I?â
Weston had valid points, but Elias remained cautious against him.
âI donât believe it. Why did you follow us here if not for Emma and me? You must be planning something against us!â
Weston was lost for words. He coughed lightly, poured himself a glass of water, then gulped it down. He looked at Elias, who was like a mini version of himself.
Weston told Elias, âHave you ever thought of something else? What if Iâm after your Mommy?â
Elias widened his eyes at once. âNo way! Donât you know? There are many men after Mommy! Youâll have to get in line!â
Weston asked, âWhat? After her many years abroad, she now has many men?â
âOf course, there are many! Uncle Edward has been courting Mommy for years. He came to all of Mommyâs performances without fail, but Mommy did not accept him.â
Westonâs face turned grim at the first half of the sentence, but his face got a little better when he heard the latter.
Weston patted Elias on the head. âItâs okay. Iâm willing to wait.â
Weston looked him straight in the eye and said as gently as possible, âSo you donât want to see me because youâre worried Iâll take you guys away?â
Elias nodded in reply, which gave Weston an inexplicable feeling at heart. He muttered, âI thought you guys hated me.â It was the first time he felt this way.
Elias paused at Westonâs muffled reply and suddenly felt a little bad for him. Although he still did not like him that much, he did not hate him as much as before.
Elias said, âYou must have done something wrong to Mommy. Thatâs why you and Mommy are separated. Looking at you, it seems like you know you were wrongâ¦â
âYeah. I know. I was wrong.â
Elias said, âSince youâre not trying to take Emma and me away, we wonât have to hide from you anymore.â
âThank you,â Weston replied with a sincere tone.
âBut whether Mommy will accept you or not has nothing to do with me!â
âI know.â
The father and son had a pleasant conversation. Weston did not realize that Eliasâs fear was the reason why the siblings were avoiding him before. Weston eased his expression after thinking it over. He felt a little dizzy, so he closed his eyes to rest for a while.
Elias frowned, seeing Westonâs exhaustion. He reached out to touch Westonâs forehead and froze when he felt the burning heat. âWhatâs wrong with you? Youâre burning up!â
Weston said nothing and kept his eyes shut tight.
âAre you okay? Are you going to die?â
Elias shook Westonâs arms, but Weston did not respond. Elias was shocked and rushed to call the doctor and the nurse. Then, he called Stella too.
Lucas soon came over. As soon as he came in, the little boy rushed into his arms and asked anxiously, âWhat should we do? Heâs so hot! Heâs not going to die, is he?â
Lucas was rendered speechless and thought, âWhat a good son of Westonâs.â
Lucas rubbed Eliasâs head and reassured him, âDonât worry. Itâs just a fever. It wonât kill him.â
He told him, âIf youâre worried, call Mommy and ask her to come and stay with you.â âI know!â Elias said, âIâve called Mommy on the phone.â
Stella and Yvonne saw Elias waiting anxiously at a distance when they came over in a hurry, so Stella rushed forward and picked Elias up in her arms.
âWhatâs wrong?â
