Guinevere had always waited for Weston to turn back and reco She did not expect to see him getting together with another woman. All the more, she did not expect him to get married to another woman while she was with child.
Until now, Guinevere lived in regret over the presumptuous and conceited decision she made back then.
Had she told Weston earlier that she was pregnant, thin cht have turned out differently In the study Lucas was talking business with Weston, and Yvonne, who had no interest in hospitals and patients, pulled Stella away the moment the men began their discussion.
.
âThey are discussing Henryâs condition again. I donât understand what theyâre saying. Itâs so boring.â
Stella followed behind her, and a familiar name caught her attention. âHenryâ¦Henry Moore?â âYou donât know him. Heâs a good friend of Weston,â Yvonne explained. âHeâs on good terms with Guinevere as well. The three of them grew up together, and both men actually liked Guinevere at one point, but she only had eyes for Weston and was always chasing after him. Afterward, Henry ended up with someone elseâ¦â She paused and said, perplexed, âIâd say Guinevere already gave birth to Westonâs child. Why doesnât he just marry her?â A glint flashed past Stellaâs eyes. âI have no idea. Perhaps he will, soon.â.
She had no idea why both of them were still not married yet.
Since Weston loved Guinevere so much, why doesnât he hurry up and secure her hand in marriage?
There was nothing stopping them, was there? âPerhaps,â Yvonne threw out a casual remark. âOh yes, I meant it when I said previously that I wanted to introduce a man to you. I know an excellent young man who is still single. Do you want to try things out with him?â
Stella didnât know whether to laugh or cry at Yvonneâs sudden change of topic. âIâm not exactly in the right frame of mind to think about relationshipsâ¦â âYouâre single right now, arenât you?â Yvonne pulled her arm and tried to persuade her, âItâs fine. You donât need to feel obliged to enter a relationship with him immediately. Itâs good to get to know more people. Youâre consumed by work all day long. It makes me feel suffocated just looking at you.â
Stella shook her head adamantly, âI donât want to have anything to do with men right now. I just want to focus on earning money.â
Yvonne didnât take her words to heart and instead said, âWhy are you saying such things at such a young age? Work is, of course, important, but it shouldnât stop you from getting to know more men and dating them. Women need to learn to enjoy lifeâ¦â
She was chattering on obliviously until Lucas called out for her from the study. She responded to Lucas before saying to Stella, âIâll head over to see whatâs going on. Feel free to look around. Iâll have someone send you back later.â
Stella nodded and looked at Yvonne as she returned to the study before walking towards the courtyard.
She soaked in the fresh night air and felt her mind clearing up.
She exhaled lightly and had just walked a few steps when she suddenly felt a strong tug on her arm.
Before she could react, she felt herself being pulled to a corner by a strong force.
She looked up and gazed into a pair of deep, dark eyes. The air around her, and even her nose, were filled with his imposing, overwhelming scent Stella instinctively pushed him away, her entire posture resistant against him, âMr. Ford, what do you want?â
The look of reluctance in her eyes made Weston narrow his eyes. He pinched her chin between his fingers and lifted her face towards him. âAre you here on purpose to see me?â
Stella thought he must be joking. Sneering, she replied, âI wouldnât dare. Mr. Ford, you spared no effort in preventing me from appearing before you. I naturally will try my darndest to avoid you if I can.â
His grip around her arm tightened, and the look in his eyes deepened.
Weston did not see anything else aside from aloofness and cynicism in her eyes, and she clearly had her defenses up.
His gaze was too aggressive. He was merely looking at her in silence, yet the subtle pressure he was exerting on her made her catch her breath.
Stella was exceedingly uncomfortable, being stared at by him in that way.
She furrowed her brows and turned to her side, âMr. Ford, please say if there is something on your mind. It is inappropriate for us to be alone like this. Whatâs more, Mr. Ford, you have a wife and aâ¦â
