Roger was still unaware of things between Stella and Weston. As such, his first response upon seeing Weston and Guinevere was to avoid having Stella see them, lest the sight of them would ruin her day.
However, since Stella had spotted the two, he saw no need to continue the charade. He looked at his sister with concern. âStella, itâs fine. Itâs just an unabashed couple. Youâll easily find a better man in the future.â
Stellaâs face remained expressionless as she retracted her gaze. She shook her head and said, âThis isnât something you should be bothered by.â
Roger remained silent as he surveyed Stella nervously. Stella looked up and smiled at him. âAre you worried about me because you think that I still have feelings for Weston?â
âI didnât mean that,â Roger immediately denied her claim. He furrowed his brows and went on, âHow could a man like him be worthy of my sister?â
âTherefore, just avoid them the next time you see them.â
What Roger really wanted to do was to give Weston a good beating, but he knew that it would only serve to create trouble for Stella. Thus, he chose to remain silent instead.
At the reception counter.
Guinevere hooked her arm around Westonâs. âI thought youâd be very busy during this period. To think that you actually have the time to treat me to a mealâ¦â
When she received Benâs call, she became exceedingly flattered and overwhelmed.
After all, ever since that incident with Stella, she had been the one taking the initiative rather than Weston.
This was, in fact, the first time he invited her out.
Was it because she took the initiative to seek reconciliation at his office the last time?
Her parents were right-all men were the same. They might fancy novelty, but they would be even more appreciative of a generous woman.
If she were to micro-manage, it would only serve to annoy him further. But if she were to give him the freedom he wanted, it would make him like her even more.
What she needed right now was to be even more understanding to him than Ella.
Given her status, Guinevere had to disguise herself whenever she went out so she would not be recognized. It was a natural choice to reserve a private room, which happened to be opposite the cubicle Stella and Roger were dining in.
After seeing both of them leave , Roger heaved a sigh of relief. âTheyâre finally gone.â Stella, who was initially nonchalant about their appearance , suddenly burst out laughing at the look of hatred on Rogerâs face. âWhat are you laughing about? How could you laugh about this!â Roger looked at her, confused.
âWhy are you so angry?â The two are bound to be together,â Stella shrugged casually. âMe, angry?â
Roger scoffed. âIâm raging! I canât believe I used to think Weston was a decent man who could care for you.â
He must have been blind back then to even call Weston his brother-in-law when he ended up not caring about Stella a single bit.
âIf I werenât sick back then, I would have beaten him senseless!â
The waiter began serving them their dishes.
Stella poured him a cup of water. âDidnât you punch him once already?â
Roger took over the cup from her and took a huge gulp. âI was sick back then and didnât exert full strengthâ¦â
The fire burning in his heart showed no signs of subsiding.
âYouâre the one who officially got married to him, yet rumors are spreading everywhere about how Guinevere is Westonâs first love. How could that woman be so shameless?â
Whatever it was, his sister was the one who registered her marriage with Weston. Why did she have to be the one to retreat the moment Guinevere appeared?
What did they take his sister for?
âAll right, thatâs enough. Letâs stop thinking about these people,â Stella patted his head affectionately.
âLetâs just enjoy our meal. After you go overseas, weâll have very few chances to share a meal.â
