It was as if she were a little tail that grew on his bottom.
Weston looked down at her, all smiles. âNervous?â
Stella remained silent as she pursed her lips.
She could feel everyoneâs eyes on them. She said softly, âDidnât you say that the engagement ceremony would be a simple affair? why do we have so many guests...â
âItâs already as simple as it gets.â
Weston brought her along to get to know some relatives of the Ford family. âItâs just a few business partners and family youâve never met. Itâs not that many people.â
âNot many? Exactly how many members are there in the Ford family?â
Stella couldnât help but click her tongue. âI remember when my uncle and aunt got engaged, it was just a matter of both families coming together for a simple meal, and things weren't this complicated..."
The mention of Michael and Diana made Stellaâs eyes darken.
Her family members were not invited to this engagement ceremony.
Her parents were long gone from the plane crash years ago. As for Roger...
She didnât even dare to tell him about it.
She tightened her grip over Westonâs arms. âLetâs not tell my brother weâre getting married soon, alright?â
Weston brought her into the crowd as his brows furrowed at her words. âWe are about to become husband and wife. Heâll know about it sooner or later.â
âBut itâs not a good time now.â
Stella insisted, âHeâs studying overseas now, and I want him to concentrate on his studies instead of being distracted by other things.â
âYouâll have to deal with this eventually.â
Weston added, âHeâs not a child anymore and needs to learn to accept reality.â
Stella naturally understood his rationale.
She had a pact with old Mr. Ford, and everything she was doing now was merely stalling for time.
She could never truly get married to Weston again, which was why she didnât intend to inform Roger about her engagement.
âGive me a little more time, alright?â
She held Westonâs arm and said in a negotiating tone, âIâm afraid he wonât be able to accept it so suddenly. Anyway, we have time on our side. Thereâs no need to rush things.â
Her words successfully put Westonâs mind at ease.
His eyes shifted as he put his arm around her waist tight. âYouâre right. Time is on our side.â
âMr. Ford, itâs been a while.â
One of his business partners came over to convey his blessings. âYou did a fantastic job in that western suburb project!â
He looked at Stella and remarked, âThis must be your fiancee, I suppose?â
Weston nodded and began introducing Stella to his guests.
All of them had heard about Weston and Guinevereâs engagement, and here was Weston organizing another engagement banquet not long after breaking off his engagement with Guinevere.
Yet, all of them were smart enough, not to mention Guinevere.
That was why Guinevereâs sudden appearance at the engagement banquet shocked everyone.
âIâm sorry I came late.â
Guinevere was dressed in an elegant gown with a hint of a smile. âI hope I didnât miss much.â
She walked leisurely to the couple and greeted, â Weston, Ella, have a happy engagement.â
Stella was slightly stunned, but recovered quickly and said, âI didnât expect to see you here. Given your condition, I thought you wouldnât have had the time to come over, which was why we didnât invite you.â
She smiled graciously, as if completely unaffected by Guinevereâs unexpected appearance.
Guinevereâs face changed as she whispered into Stellaâs ears. âI know youâre putting on a show. You probably donât wish to see me here, right?â
She looked at her deeply and went on, âDonât worry, Ella. Iâm not here to create trouble. Iâm here just to wish you two the very best.â
