The manâs voice was low, with hoarseness.
The woman was shocked, and her heart suddenly tightened.
She knew that he was not calling her, nor was she the person he wanted to hold.
But...
Instead of pushing him away, she responded gently.
From Yvonneâs perspective, however, all she could see was Hayden grabbing the womanâs hand.
âHayden!!!â she barged in and yelled.
The sudden scream shocked the two inside the room, and they turned around to look at her.
The woman had been badly startled, and she stared at Yvonne.â You are?â
Hayden immediately came to his senses, let go of the womanâs hand, stood up, and looked at Yvonne.
âWhy are you here?â
Her face was dark. âDid I disturb you?â
After understanding what she meant, the man frowned. âDonât talk nonsense.â
Yvonne was about to burst out at any moment, and she clenched her fist. âFine. Iâll leave.â
She turned around and was about to leave when the woman came to her senses and said hurriedly, âWait! Youâre Mrs. Quirk. right?â
Her smile was gentle. âDr. Quirk talks about you a lot.â
âReally?â
Yvonne stopped and turned to look at her. âWhat did he say about me?â
âHe said that... youâre cute.â
The woman was still smiling. âIâm just Dr. Quirkâs patient, donât get me wrong.â
âIn the middle of the night, which doctor would be in the same bed as his patient?â
Yvonneâs face dropped when she heard this.
Even Haydenâs face darkened. âEnough. Stop being unreasonable.â
Instantly, Yvonneâs eyes widened. âIâm being unreasonable?â
She stared at the man in front of her, but he only looked at her with those cold eyes, without explanation or persuasion. Only blame and impatience were written in them.
She suddenly felt a stinging pain in her heart, and the pain was unbearable.
She held back her tears and took a deep breath. âOkay. Since Iâm being unreasonable, Iâll leave now.â
Without looking back, she ran outside of the room.
Inside the room The woman stared at Yvonneâs back and sald worriedly, âDoctor Quirk, she must be jealous. Do you want to explain?â
Hayden stood up, took off his goldâwire glasses, and wiped them gracefully. âNo, sheâs just like that.â
He rubbed the bridge of his nose, then put his glasses back on.
His eyes were bloodshot, a clear indication of how tired he was.
The woman, on the other hand, felt a little distressed. âYouâve been here for so long. Go home and rest first.â
âYou accidentally fell asleep here just now, and your phone rang,â she suddenly added, a little embarrassed. âI was afraid of disturbing you, so I picked it up for you. Your wife⦠Did she misunderstand something?â
Hayden paused for a while. He adjusted his glasses and said nothing.
âRing the bell if there is any problem. Iâll go rest first.â
âOkay. Rest well, doc.â
Although he said he didnât need to explain to Yvonne, he still got up and left the ward.
The woman looked at his back with a smile still plastered on her face.
Her gentle countenance was soon replaced with a complicated feeling.
Yvonneâs anger did not subside. She went to Haydenâs office to get her bag, turned around, and was about to leave when he stopped her by the door. âWhere are you going at such a late hour?â
âI donât want to disturb you and your patient.â
Her eyes were focused on the corridor outside without sparing him a glance.
âMove,â he snapped.
Frowning deeply, he pushed her by the shoulder and forced her inside before slamming the door shut.
