Chapter 455 âAgnes, you bitch, canât believe youâd pull this on me. I wonât let you get away with this!â
No sooner had she finished speaking than she lunged at Agnes, trying to grab her by the throat.
But Ben stepped in front of Agnes, and with a casual swipe of his arm, sent Beatrice sprawling on the floor.
From her superior position, Agnes looked down at Beatrice. âStill havenât learned your lesson, Beatrice? If Iâm not mistaken, youâve only been out of prison for a month, and do you want to go back in?â
At the thought of her month in jail, Beatriceâs fingers clenched painfully. It had been the most torturous, shameful month of her life.
Agnes had made her suffer, trashed her reputation, and she couldnât do a damn thing about it.
Agnes was still Mrs. Whitfield, with Jared still watching her back.
That miserable woman!
Beatrice swore sheâd make her pay.
Laura had changed into a new outfit and emerged looking calm, surprisingly elegant and composed.
Sometimes Agnes had to hand it to her.
She was quite the sly fox.
In just a few minutes, with all the ups and downs, she went from being out of control to being calm.
Laura cut straight to the chase, âAgnes, weâre all family here. Exposing me doesnât do you any good.â
Agnes retorted, âBut it doesnât do any harm either, Ms. Läura, right?â
âDonât you care about your fatherâs reputation at all?â
âGiven my fatherâs condition, who knows how much longer he has? Does his reputation still matter? Besides, Ms. Laura, youâre already planning on divorcing him, right? If weâre all going our separate ways, I donât see why I should hold back.â
Laura frowned, silent for a moment, âWhat do you want?â
Agnes finally cracked a smile, âMs. Laura, you sure are a smart one.â
Agnes pulled out some documents from her bag, âThis is a divorce agreement. I donât want to make things difficult for you. Given the current state of my family, we canât provide the life you want. Since youâve betrayed my father, Iâll make this decision on his behalf.â
Laura laughed, âYouâre not going to let me off that easy, are you?â
âNaturally, itâs not that simple.â Agnes pulled out a second document, âSince youâre the one who betrayed my father, itâs only fair that you forfeit all assets after the divorce. This is an agreement to that effect, including the Pritchard familyâs assets, trust funds, and the properties under your and my fatherâs names. Of course, as compensation, you can take with you the jewelry and other personal items my father gifted you.â
Laura was clearly taken aback, âAgnes, after all the years Iâve cared for your father, you expect me to walk away with nothing?â
âMs. Laura, your words are rather misplaced. My father entrusted his company to you, but it almost went under on your watch, barely able to stay afloat. True colors show in times of hardship. My fatherâs condition is dire, yet I donât see you taking good care of him. Over the years, youâve enjoyed a life of luxury, not looking after him. Of course, if you refuse to sign this agreement, thatâs fine. We can take the legal route. When all the evidence comes out, the court will make its judgment. You might end up with nothing. Ms. Laura, Iâm doing this only because you were once married to my father, and I want to leave you some dignity.â
Agnesâ words fell like pearls, one by one.
Though Laura was too angry to speak, she couldnât deny the truth of Agnesâ words.
If the video of her affair went public, sheâd face not only public condemnation but also the lawâs lack of mercy.
Either way, sheâd end up with nothing.
