Jared noticed something different about Agnes compared to other women. She was always at Reggieâs side, not fluttering around him like the other three party girls, plying him with alcohol. Aside from a few moments when Reggle whispered something in her ear, there didnât seem to be any intimate interactions between them. But this didnât eliminate Jaredâs suspicions.
Seeing Agnes here, in a tight and exposing dress, made his blood boil, almost to the point of explosion, but he kept his face ice cold.
Finally, the dinner party ended. The three men were pretty much drunk and were led away by the ladies to another room, leaving Agnes and Reggie alone Reggie served Agnes a bowl of soup. âAgnes, you didnât eat anything tonight. Here, have some soup. Phenix made it.â
Agnes took a sip of the soup but put it down, âSorry Reggie, Iâm not hungry.â
âWhatâs wrong. Agnes? You looked out of sorts today Want to talk about it?â
Agnes looked downcast. Reggie reached out, patting her hair as if comforting a child.
âThere is someone I need your help to find, Reggie.â
âWho are you looking for?â
âAll I know is that his name is Vernon. He worked for Berlin, but heâs disappeared.â
Reggie frowned slightly, âBerlin, Cilianâs goodâforânothing brother?â
Agnes nodded, âYes, Vernon was his assistant. Heâs been with him for over a decade but disappeared a few days ago. I canât find any information about him.â
âWhy are you involved with the Thomas family?â
Reggie rarely interfered in his childrenâs private lives But Agnes had been living in the Manhattan for years and her contacts were mostly local. It was strange that she was now involved with the Thomas family, a name that reminded Reggie of his own past.
âPrivate matters, Reggie I will handle my problems. I just need your help to find Vernon.â
Reggie nodded, âAlright, Iâll ask Kearney to handle it. He should be back soon and thereâs nothing he canât do in the Capital.â
Agnes thanked him, âI appreciate it, Kearney is really reliable.â
Reggie saw Agnes looking serious and pinched her cheek, âLook at you, youâve lost so much weight lately. I prefer you a bit plump, like a baby.â
Agnes forced a smile, âDonât worry, Reggie. Iâll take care of myself.â
Reggie added, âYou staying with Phenix is good. The chefs here are renowned. Remember to eat more, get some meat on your bones. I like you better that wayâ
âLet me walk you out, Reggie, Agnes offered.
âNo need, Agnes. Itâs late. You should rest.â
Agnes nodded and Reggie left. At the same time, Jared put down his binoculars.
