found.
Mrs. Fabian greeted them almost immediately, her eyes lighting up in recognition. âWhy, itâs you two! Come in! Iâve been thinking of ways to thank you.â
Upon entering, they found the elderly couple sitting at the dining table, enjoying their supper.
Mrs. Fabian offered generously, âI hope you two havenât had dinner yet. Please join us. Weâve cooked some extra dishes since weâre in a celebratory mood.â
Agnes accepted gladly. âWe were actually feeling a bit hungry, so OK, letâs have dinner together.â
Mrs. Fabian said, âYou two are our saviors. Itâs our pleasure to share a meal with youâ
With the table set, they sat down to eat.
Agnes had always known Jared to be particular about his food and cleanliness, and she worried that he might be uncomfortable with the humble setting. To her surprise, he relished the meal, praising Mrs. Fabianâs cooking skills.
Mrs. Fabian, a little embarrassed, thanked them profusely, âYouâve brought so much relief to us by finding homes for all the stray animals. Youâve fulfilled our wish of many years. Tears welled up in her eyes as she said this.
â
Agnes understood their mixed feelings. âI know how much you cared for those animals, and it must be hard to see the neighborhood so empty now.â She handed them a list of all the new owners and their contact details. âYou can visit any of them whenever you want. Everyone was so touched by your kindness and they would be more than happy to have you over.â
All of the stray dogs and cats sought owners in the city, and most of them were also from nearby neighborhoods.
Mr. and Mrs. Fabian looked at the list and couldnât hold back their tears. âYou are so kind. Thank you so much.â Seeing their grateful tears, Agnes felt a deep sense of accomplishment.
Acat came over and curled up on Agnesâ lap. This was one of the two pets that the Fabians had decided to keep, the other being their oldest dog, Max. Agnes advised them, âNow that all the strays have found homes, itâs time for you two to move out as well.
These houses are old and unsafe.â
Mrs. Fabian agreed, promising to move out the next day. Mrs. Fabian said, âMs. Pritchard, you are really a good person. We really owe it to you this time.
If there is anything that you need our old couple to help you with, just let us know, and we will definitely do our best.â
Agnes smiled, âYou and Mr. Fabian have worked hard for most of your life, so just enjoy life.â
As they left Harmony Hollow, Agnes felt a lightness in her heart, humming a tune without realizing it.
Jared looked at her with a smile, âYou seem pretty happy.â
Agnes replied, âOf course, this is the greatest achievement for a journalist.â
Jared asked about her future plans.
Agnes thought for a moment before responding, âMy next step is to become a leading reporter for The Primary Perspective, create my own column, and build a harmonious team. Thatâs my immediate goal.â
Under the dim moonlight, Jared looked at Agnesâ radiant face and felt as if she was glowing.
