I yawned tiredly and rubbed sleep from my eyes. I rolled on my side to look at the time on my clock, blinking a few times to clear my blurry vision. 10:32... my shift starts in about two hours... I thought. I sighed as I made to get off my bed, but I felt a pair of thin arms try to weakly hold me back. My body jerked in surprise, my heart pounding rapidly in my chest.
Uh... I shouldn't have anyone in my bed...
"Don't go... you're so warm and cuddly..." I heard a voice mumble sleepily, I chuckle lightly when I recognized the voice.
"Jade what are you doing in my bed?" I asked.
"It was cold... and I was feeling lonely..." Jade mumbled, her eyes opened slightly, revealing her crystal, blue eyes.
"Awww... well I have to get up, I've got to go to work in two hours..." I said softly as I pried Jade's arms off of me and got out of bed, turning around to look at her.
"Kit Kat don't go..." Jade whined, I felt my heart melt, she was so adorable.
"You should get up too Jadey, c'mon..." I said as I nudged her leg, the only part of her body I could reach, Jade grunted and turned over.
"Leave me alone, if you're not gonna be my cuddle buddy let me sleep..." Jade grumbled as she grabbed a body pillow and nuzzled her head against it.
I jumped back on the bed and started tickling Jade. She squealed in surprise and tried to ball up in her attempt to defend herself from my unexpected onslaught of tickles.
"Kat... stop... please..." Jade managed to get out, her voice breathless from laughing so much.
"Get up then you lazy ass," I laughed, my mouth curling up into a smile at the sound of her happy giggle.
"Okay okay fine! Just stop!" Jade giggled as she sat up abruptly and got off the bed hastily.
I grinned at her and went to the bathroom, quickly brushing my teeth before I slipped into the shower. I grabbed a towel and wrapped it around myself as I went back in my room. Jade was sprawled out on the bed, cuddled up with a pillow again with a blanket tossed over her body.
"Jade! I told you to get up!" I said loudly, slightly irritated by her refusal to get out of bed, Jade just groaned in response.
"Why..." I heard her grumble.
Jade sat up as she tossed the blanket off of her, her eyes widened as she realized that I was just standing there in my towel. I chuckled when I saw Jade blush furiously.
"Holy fu- I, uh, sorry Kat. I'll uh, get going..." Jade stammered as she literally ran out of the room.
I shook my head in confusion, Jade had been acting weird lately.
I put on a bra and matching underwear, then slipped on my waitress uniform. I brushed my hair and let my natural curls fall over my shoulders. Ah not today... don't wanna get food in my hair or some crap like that... I thought to myself as I put my hair up in a neat bun. I grabbed my purse and phone before making my way downstairs.
"Jade, I'm gonna head off to work," I yelled as I grabbed my keys.
"Kat, I'll drive you!" I heard Jade yell back as she rushed downstairs.
"No you don't have to, I can drive just fine," I said with a laugh, Jade rolled her eyes.
"Nope, I'm driving, I have to run some errands anyways," Jade insisted, I shrugged in response as I opened be door.
Jade grabbed her purse and shut the door behind us as we went outside. I tossed her the keys and she caught them with her free hand.
"Show off," I said sarcastically, Jade stuck her tongue out at me like a child.
We got in the car and Jade put the keys in, the car rumbling to life a few moments after. I turned on the radio and gasped excitedly when I heard what song was playing.
"JADE IT'S A LITTLE MIX SONG OH MY GOD," I shouted excitedly, a stupid grin on my face.
"OH MY GOD YES," Jade shouted back, we both broke down in a fit of giggles.
We sang along to Shout Out to My Ex, yelling our faces off like maniacs. I swear, I think everyone outside heard us and thought we were crazy.
"You are so lucky to have the same name as Jade," I said grinning.
"I know, she's so fucking pretty and adorable," Jade said, glancing at me before returning her gaze to the road.
"Aye, you are too!" I said, a faint blush colored Jade's cheeks.
Jade didn't look anything like Jade Thirlwall, but she was super pretty. My Jade had striking blue eyes and straight, raven black hair. I caught myself staring at her and I found a sudden interest in my hands. I felt the car slow to a stop and looked up, Jade had pulled up in front of the diner I worked at.
"Thanks again Jadey, I'll see you later," I said as I grabbed my things.
I heard Jade say "bye Kit Kat," before I slammed the door shut. Jade drove off and I watched the car until it was out of sight. I sighed, there was no point in procrastinating, I had to get to work. I opened the door to the diner with a creak, heads immediately turning at the sound. I smiled slightly at them, a couple guys whistling at me as I walked behind the counter.
"And our gorgeous waitress has finally arrived, attracting quite a crowd I have to say," one of our waiters chuckled, I rolled my eyes at him.
"Haha very funny Don, they just wanna get laid," I said with a chuckle.
"But you look very lovely today Kate," Don said as he gave me a wink.
I rolled my eyes at him. Don was a flirt so I knew not to take him seriously. He would hit on me often though, so I was starting to think that he might have a thing for me.
"I come to work like this literally all the time Don. Same outfit, same hair style, so stop trying to be smooth, it isn't working," I said with a smile.
"Eh, worth a try," Don said as he harmlessly shrugged.
"Get to work lover boy," I said as I slapped his shoulder playfully, he shrugged again as he went to carry out some orders.
"So what's up with you two?" one of the waitresses asked me, curiosity glimmering in her hazel eyes.
"Nothing as you can see," I said with a low chuckle.
"Uh huh... tell me when you two are getting married yeah?" Layla teased as she turned around to serve a customer.
My mouth dropped open, I wasn't interested in Don whatsoever. He wasn't even that attractive unfortunately, had a decent personality, but not that attractive.
"Close your mouth darling, you're gonna catch flies," another one of our waiters asked, I glared playfully at Richard.
"Shut up Richie, get your gay ass to work," I said shooting him a playful smirk, he sighed dramatically.
"Now who put this bitch in charge?" Richie asked as he crossed his arms over his chest, quirking his eyebrow.
"The boss did, obviously I can do my job better than any of you," I said with a smile, and with that I got off to work.
Just a usual day, me being all smiles with the regulars, taking slips of papers from random guys with their numbers only to throw them away later. It was relatively busy though, but my uniform thankfully managed to avoid any mishaps. I placed some dirty dishes in the sink before wiping down the tables. It was nearly closing time, but there was still one guy left. I walked over to him hesitantly, he had his hoodie up so I couldn't see his face.
"Hey sir, it's almost closing time. Would you like to take the rest of your burger home?" I asked as I noticed his half eaten burger.
"Sure," the guy said quietly, his voice seemed familiar but I couldn't quite put my finger on it.
I grabbed a plastic container from behind the counter and headed back to the guy. I made to put his burger in the container when he grabbed my wrist.
"No need to do that Katelyn," the guy said softly, I felt fear go through my body.
"H-How do you know my name?" I asked nervously.
The guy moved his hands to his hood and slowly took it off. I was met with familiar looking hazel eyes.
"Don't tell me you forgot me already Kate," the guy chuckled, I felt my breath catch in my throat.
Never did I think that I'd run into him again. The guy was my ex, Aaron. We had broken up over a year ago, and under bad circumstances. I had caught him cheating on me when I was out at a club with some friends. He was practically shoving his tongue down the girl's throat and the sight had made me sick to my stomach. I had slapped him that night and yelled at him that we were over. I had blocked his number, blocked him from every social media I had, and now he was back in my life.
"How could I forget you," I said coldly, I would never forget how he hurt me.
"Oh, you're not still hung up on that are you?" Aaron asked smugly.
"How could I not be? You cheated on me!" I said, my voice rising as I gripped the table to control the anger coursing through me.
"Hey, everything alright over there?" Don asked as he started to make his way over.
"Fine Don. We're fine. This man was just leaving," I said firmly.
Aaron shrugged as he put his burger in his container, tossing a $20 bill on the table.
"Buy yourself something nice sweetheart," Aaron said as he left, I clenched my fist.
"Ex?" Don asked carefully.
"Yup, I'm done, close up will you Don?" I asked Don, he nodded.
"I do believe I should get a kiss for saving you," Don said with a smirk as he leaned in.
"Keep dreaming," I said as I held my hand up in front of his face.
I grabbed my things and exited the diner, standing outside of the building. I started walking to the parking lot out back when I stopped.
I forgot Jade drove me here, how was I supposed to get home?
I was about to hail a taxi when I heard a familiar honking sound.
"Kat! C'mon get in!" Jade said as she pulled up in front of the diner.
"Thanks Jadey, I thought I was going to have to hail a taxi," I said with a chuckle as I got in, slamming the door behind me.
"I wouldn't have let you, you could've just called me," Jade answered as she started driving back home. "So how was work?"
"... Fine..." I said through gritted teeth as I gripped the arm rest tightly.
"Spill, know something is up," Jade said, giving me a quick glance.
"I ran into Aaron at work," I said quietly, I saw Jade's grip on the steering wheel tighten.
"That cheating son of a bitch ex of yours?" Jade asked, I could sense that she was trying to stay calm.
"The very one," I said sighing.
Jade soon pulled into the drive way. We both got out and slammed the doors. Jade hurried to our door and jammed the keys into the lock before throwing the door open. I followed after her and shut the door behind us.
"You alright...?" I asked tentatively, Jade nodded.
"Fine, fine. I just can't believe that he would do something like that to you..." Jade muttered.
"Yeah, guys are jerks," I said with a small smile.
"Yeah... they can be..." Jade said as she ran a hand through her hair.
"I'm gonna take a quick shower alright?" I told Jade, she nodded in acknowledgement.
I grabbed some sweat pants and a tank top before heading to the bathroom. I undressed and then stepped in the shower, turning on the water. I let the hot liquid run through my hair, cascading in small waterfalls down my body. It was relaxing, especially after a long day of work. I performed the essentials before I grabbed a towel and dried myself off, slipping into my clothes. I went back downstairs and my nose was met with a pleasant aroma. I smiled when I saw Jade cooking, humming along to a song she was listening to with her earphones. I snuck up behind her and wrapped my arms around Jade's waist, I felt her tense in my grasp.
"Something smells good..." I murmured in her ear, Jade laughed nervously.
"T-Thought I'd cook dinner... s-seeing that you're probably wiped from work...." Jade stammered, I chuckled as I let her go.
"Why so nervous Jadey?" I asked as I tilted my head to the side.
"I-It's nothing... o-oh look, the omelets are ready," Jade said hurriedly as she tried to changed the subject, I found it odd but decided to let it slide for now.
Jade grabbed two plates and placed an omelet on each one. She then grabbed two forks and handed me my food along with a fork.
"Thanks Jade," I said with a smile as ate a piece, I shut my eyes in bliss, it tasted like heaven.
Jade and I ate our meal in silence, and when we were done, I grabbed both of our dishes and washed them.
"Kat..." Jade said quietly, I turned around to look at her.
"C-Can I sleep with you tonight? It's getting cold and my blanket just isn't doing it for me..." Jade asked nervously, I smiled at her.
"Course Jadey, go on upstairs, I'll be up in a bit," I said as I put the dishes away.
I heard Jade's footsteps scurry up the stairs. I smiled to myself. God she's the most adorable little thing. And gorgeous and amazing an- wait. I shouldn't have these thoughts about her... she's my best friend, I thought to myself, I shook my head to clear the thoughts.
After putting the last of the dishes away, I turned off the lights and headed up to my room. I opened my door slowly, and smiled when I saw Jade already comfortable on my bed. I shut the door behind me quietly, not wanting to disturb her. I slowly sat down on the bed, Jade moved her head to see what caused the movement.
"Did I wake you?" I asked her softly, I caught a glimpse of her striking blue eyes.
"I wasn't that tired, I was just laying here, waiting for you," Jade mumbled.
A smile found its way to my lips as I got under the blanket with Jade. She immediately cuddled up against me, taking me by surprise. Jade nuzzled her head against my neck, her warm breath hitting my neck which sent shivers down my spine. I carefully wrapped an arm around her waist, my breathing becoming erratic at the lack of space between our bodies.
"Night Kit Kat... love you..." Jade mumbled sleepily.
"Night Jadey... love you too..." I whispered.
I shut my eyes and sighed, I couldn't stop the furious pounding of my heart. I glanced at Jade and realized she had already fallen asleep. I could tell from her slowed breathing and lack of movement. Everything about her is literally perfection. She looks so cute sleeping... I thought to myself, I sighed again.
There was no denying it.
I was in love with my best friend.
