"Babe," I heard a voice say in my sleeping state, I grunted and turned to the other side of the bed.
"Kit Kat get up," I heard the voice, which was most definitely Jade's, whine.
"Why..." I mumbled tiredly, I still had my eyes shut because I really didn't want to get up.
"Because you love me?" Jade asked hopefully, a low laugh escaped me, but I still kept my eyes shut.
"I do love you, but I love sleep too..." I mumbled, Jade gasped and I could picture her fake offended expression, I smiled slightly at the image.
"You're cheating on me... with sleep??" Jade asked in fake offense, I groaned as turned my body back to its original position and forced myself to fully awaken.
I was met with the smiling face of my beautiful girlfriend, her blue eyes sparkling in the morning light.
"Baby girl... you know I love you and only you..." I said with a soft smile, Jade grinned.
"I know, I just wanted to get you up," Jade said, I scoffed and pouted at her.
"I hate you," I groaned, trying to put on a mad facial expression.
"Stop lying, you know you love me," Jade said haughtily as she pressed a kiss against my lips.
"Unfortunately..." I muttered as Jade pulled away, she gasped and slapped my arm playfully.
Jade got off of the bed and went to the restroom, I smiled to myself as I watched her go in, not before she sent me a playful wink though. How'd I get so lucky... I thought to myself as Jade closed the door.
I silent yawn escaped me as I sat up and tried to rub the sleep from my eyes. I glanced at the clock before gasping in surprise. Oh crap, my shift starts in an hour! I thought frantically as I jumped off of the bed and darted downstairs to our other bathroom. I showered hurriedly and slipped into my uniform in just a matter of minutes before I went to the kitchen to make some toast for a quick breakfast.
"Kat... why are you rushing so much..." I heard Jade ask, I turned around to see her leaning on the table, with a questioning look on her face.
"My shift starts soon!" I said as I grabbed the toast which had just popped out of the toaster and quickly tore a piece off, wincing as the heat burned my tongue.
"You have an early one today..." Jade noted as she glanced at the clock, I nodded.
"Are you ready for work Ms. Adler?" I asked as I walked over to Jade and held my hands behind her neck.
"Yup, how about you?" Jade asked as she sweetly pecked me on the nose, wrapping her arms around my waist.
"Just about... need to finish my breakfast though..." I said as I slipped out of Jade's hold to finish my simple breakfast.
"C'mon, I'll drive you, take your breakfast to go," Jade suggested, I smiled at her as I grabbed the rest of my toast.
We got in the car a few short moments later and I turned on the radio, changing it to our favorite station.
"Ugh, a rap song?" Jade said in annoyance, I sighed, we had a similar taste in music so her reaction was basically mine.
"Oh well... it'll pass eventually..." I said as I stared out the window, munching on my toast.
The radio disappointed us this morning seeing as it only played rap songs to our displeasure. Before I knew it, we were in front of the diner.
"I'll swing by later to pick you up Kat, love you," Jade said as she gave me a warm smile.
"Alright, and I love you too," I said as I reciprocated Jade's smile, giving her a swift kiss on the cheek before I exited the vehicle.
I tugged on the door to get it to open before I walked into the diner and scanned the building. Don was already here. He glanced up to see who had come in, but quickly looked down when he realized it was me. I chuckled at the fact that only a couple days ago, Don was trying to get with me, and now he was afraid to even look at me.
"Hey Don," I said as I walked over to the counter, he grunted at me to acknowledge my existence.
"Jesus, Jade said not to touch me, not to not acknowledge me," I joked, trying to ease his nerves.
Don sighed loudly as he ran a hand through his messy, brown hair.
"Sorry, your girlfriend just scared me... and I'm sorry about how I acted, I crossed the line..." Don said quietly, I raised an eyebrow in surprise.
"You're forgiven, now enough of this nonsense, back to friends?" I asked as I held my hand out.
"Back to friends," Don said as he grasped my hand firmly.
We got to work as soon as the rest of the staff arrived, along with customers. I managed to get through the shift without much of a hassle, my uniform remained clean and there was no mishaps with Aaron. I had just about finished wiping down the tables when my phone buzzed. I took it out to see that it was from Jade.
Baby Girl â¤ï¸: Hey Kat... I can't pick you up, got to run a couple errands, I'll be back around 8. Love you.
Me: Alright Jadey, love you too.
Looks like I'm calling an Uber... I thought as I left the diner, shouting a quick goodbye to everyone. I requested an Uber and waited patiently for it to arrive, crossing my arms as I shivered in the cold seeing as I had been too much in a hurry this morning to remember to bring my jacket. I turned on my phone to check the time, it was 7 pm already. I had been working for 11 hours today. I was confused when I didn't feel the exhaustion, but my thoughts were interrupted as the Uber I called arrived.
I was at my house in a matter of minutes and tipped the driver, she thanked me warmly as I left. As soon as I walked in the house, I was suddenly hit with the wave of exhaustion that I had been missing. I nearly collapsed as I briefly saw stars before I shook my head to clear my mind.
I rushed upstairs to take a quick shower, slipping out of my uniform and into the cascade of warm water. My body felt disgusting after the hours upon hours of work in the diner, it had been awfully hot in there today and I had been sweating a lot. When I felt sufficiently clean, I got out of the shower and wrapped a fluffy towel around my body as I walked to the bedroom.
It was getting colder now, which I loved. I absolutely adored cold weather. I put on some fluffy pajamas and I slipped on my fluffy robe as well. I caught my reflection in the mirror and laughed at myself, I looked like an animal of sorts or something under the layer of fluff. Jade would probably remark that I was looking like a furry or whatnot. I glanced at the clock, it was only 7:30. I sighed to myself as I decided to find a way to kill time before Jade got home.
I was just laying down on my bed, cuddled up with a book, when I heard a faint creak on the stairs. The sound was muffled seeing as the door was shut, but I heard it nevertheless. My eyes wandered to the door and I tried to be as silent as possible in my attempt to locate another sound. My body was tense, but relaxed when I didn't hear another noise. It's probably just my imagination, I thought. My paranoia was probably just getting the best of me since I was home alone. I heard the stairs creak again however and I heard...
Footsteps.
I put my book down slowly and got off my bed as quietly as I could. Yes, those were definitely footsteps. I opened my door slowly, trying to be as silent as possible. There was a figure already on the other side of the door, however, and I screamed.
"Jesus Kat!" I heard a familiar voice squeal as the figure stepped into the light and I sighed with relief as I realized it was Jade. "You scared the shit out of me!"
"God, I'm sorry babe... my book got me all tense from this one scene and everything that's been happening an-" I started, but Jade's shocked and confused facial expression stopped me in my tracks.
"Everything that's been happening...?" Jade quoted, her blue eyes filled with concern.
I mentally face palmed myself, so much for keeping that to myself.
"Why don't we sit down on the bed..." I said hesitantly, Jade obliged immediately and sat down, looking at me intently.
"There's no real way to put this down easy so... I have a stalker..." I said quietly, Jade's eyes widened in shock.
"What? Since when?" Jade asked immediately, I internally cursed myself for worrying her so much.
"I found out real recently... they got my number and..." I said, I trailed off as I handed Jade my phone to scroll through the conversation I had with my stalker.
"... Kit Kat... why didn't you tell me earlier... we could've gone to the police o-or something..." Jade whispered, her eyes were brimming with tears and I felt my heart ache at the sight.
"I'm sorry, I didn't want to worry you..." I murmured as I brought Jade close to me, hugging her tightly.
"It's my job to worry," Jade said with a light chuckle, I sighed as I kissed the top of her head.
"It shouldn't be..." I stated quietly, Jade wiggled out of my hold to look at me.
"Well it is, I'm your girlfriend and I'm going to worry, because I love you," Jade said softly, I looked at her affection filled blue eyes and smiled.
"And I love you," I said, smiling softly.
We decided to go to bed a bit early seeing as we were both fairly tired. Jade had her arms wrapped securely around me, as if she wanted to keep me safe from my stalker. At least I wasn't the only one that knew about this now. My chest felt a bit lighter knowing that someone else was aware of the potential danger I was in. I was just about to drift off to sleep when I heard my phone buzz. I slowly grabbed it, not wanting to disturb Jade, and check my notifications. Of course, it was my stalker.
Stalker: I don't know who you're fooling here Katelyn. You know you love me. I can't believe you would go and try to make me jealous by pretending to be gay. It's repulsive. You will be mine. Nothing can stop us. I will destroy anything and anyone that tries to come between us. And that starts with Jade.
I felt a lump in my throat as I flipped over to make sure Jade was still with me. She was, and fast asleep. I choked back a sob as I thought about losing her. The nightmare from the other night came and invaded my mind. I pushed the horrid thoughts away and wrapped my arms around her, holding Jade tightly. I didn't want to lose her, I couldn't afford to lose her. I was already in so deep, and I didn't want my heart shattered because of my stalker. I have to protect her.
And I'll do anything at any cost to do that.
