Evelyn's POV
After a few days of...well...not really peace, I had to face my fear and go back to school. This was the day I'd been deading since the moment I found out the news about the fight was spreading like STDs on a high school party. Kids my age are, nosey to say the least. I wasn't the most popular person in my high school, so I was scared to see the effects such a thing would have on my image.
Even though I usually go to school with the girls, I had no communication with them the days that had passed. Ivory and Maya weren't responding and although me and Bailey had spoken a little, communication with her was also cut short. All of the above meant that I had to go face the crowds alone. How nice. I was determined to just go to school, ignore everyone, go to class, go home. Shouldn't be too hard to do, plus my bruises were slowly but surely fading and I had covered them with makeup.
My plan started going to hell the minute I walked inside the gates, as anyone that passed by turned to stare at me, and whispers could be heard everywhere. I kept my chin high and tried to block the world, my eyes searching for my friends. It was so weird to me how none of them seemed to be around, it almost felt like I was from a different universe. The whispers around me were getting louder and I knew this day would be tough.
"There you are!" Ivory suddenly appeared in front of me, making me jump. "Did I scare you? Sorry girlie I was just trying to find you everywhere and I couldn't so I got excited" I simply nodded my head, hand over my chest in an attempt to calm down. She seemed to notice the voices around us because she suggested we went somewhere else to talk, something I was grateful for. We were free for the first period, as the algebra teacher had to take her kitten to the vet. Kitty, if you're reading this, I hope you're okay, but please go to the vet more.
We reached the football field and took a seat on the bleachers. "Now. What happened girl? The entire school is buzzing!" she said, putting a hand on my knee. "It's nothing, I promise. Everything is fine!" I tried reassuring her, but she wouldn't budge. "Nothing? You call this nothing? You got in a fight and got expelled! You. Now for real, tell me what happened"
I sighed "It was just a misunderstanding, me and Linsday solved it and now everything is okay between us" I explained, leaving out the parts about me being beaten to the ground and Lindsay actually hating my guts. "What is she all about anyway? She popped out of nowhere and suddenly the whole school was going 'Aiden's girlfriend this' and 'Black's girl that'. Did you even know he had a girlfriend?"
I laughed at how interesting this whole situation seemed to her, while I couldn't care less. "No, he hadn't told me, not that he tells me anything anymore" I said, frustration and anger evident in my tone as I still hadn't gotten over what went down at his house. Ivory seemed to have picked it up "Is everything okay with you two? Did you guys fight again?" she asked, turning her whole body to face me. I shook my head, not wanting to shed any light on the fight between us or to how it escalated. "No, no, everything is fine"
That last bit had her convinced, at least I hope. "Wait, so this girl... what's her name, Lindsay?" she asked and I nodded "What's up with her and you? What was she even pressed about, I mean you and Aiden are friends" she said but it almost seemed like she was coming to a conclusion of her own. I simply nodded, trying to stop the conversation as I didn't want to tell her anything more or have her realize something on her own. It's not that I didn't trust her, I knew her intentions were good but her enthusiasm alone could be detrimental. If I told her a single thing, I was scared that she was going to tell people and then we'd have bigger problems to deal with.
She opened her mouth to say something when we saw Bailey basically sprinting towards us. "There you guys are! Next time go hide inside a garbage bin, it'll be easier to find you!" we both laughed at her frustration "The entire school was buzzing, saying you came to school but I couldn't find you." she let out a breath she was holding while talking.
"Hey, by the way why have you guys been ignoring me? I tried getting a hold of at least one of you but I got sent to voicemail" I complained, the fact only now popping back in my brain. Bailey sighed and took a seat next to us, before speaking "Nash had a tantrum or whatever you want to call it and threw it across the room so now I don't have a phone"
We both nodded, understandingly, we knew Nash could be a handful, his addiction had worsened a lot and Bailey truly was so strong to be able to handle him. I imagined myself in her position, having to see Cole in such a state. Poor thing.
Ivory turned to me to give her own explanation but Bailey cut her off "Hey is that... that's Aiden! What the hell's he doing here?" she asked and I seriously considered hiding under the bleachers. I knew where this was going and I was not in the mood for it. "Let's go see, then" Ivory got up, followed by Bailey while I made no move to do the same. They both looked at me, questioningly "I'm not coming. I don't really wanna know why he's here anyway" I tried to save myself, and it was working.
~~~
It didn't work. Moments after I spoke, I was being practically dragged away by Ivory and Bailey, who for some reason weren't budging a bit. I managed to get them to stop acting like I was a piece of meat and promised I wouldn't run in the other direction if they let me go. We reached the hallway to the principal's office and there he was.
Ivory and Bailey both greeted him, but I just played with my hair. Not today Mr. He picked it up "I see how it is... I can't even get a 'hi' from you anymore?" he smirked and I sighed "Hi" the tension between us was evident, and Bailey could tell, butting in to change the subject "What are you here for?" she punched his shoulder playfully "Oh, I'm here to enroll at the school" he casually explained, and-
Say what now.
I tried to keep my cool and not show that I was nearly having a damn stroke, taking the lead to speak "Does your girlfriend allow it, or are we gonna have more problems?" I raised my chin, messing with him, and it was working. "I don't need her permission, I can do whatever the hell I want" he spat, jaw ticking as he looked my way. Our eyes locked, both our stares being far from nice. The girls looked back and forth between us before Bailey took the lead to help with the tension once more, acting like the conversation between us hadn't taken place. "How will you even enroll, the year's already started," she asked, crossing her arms over her chest.
His gaze broke away from mine and he turned to her "With my grades, I can do pretty much anything, plus they gave me this-" he showed us a file "-from my last school that says I need to be transferred here" he explained and they nodded, but I wanted to rip that paper in half before he had the chance to show it to the principal.
"What brings you here? Was online school not satisfying enough for you?" Ivory asked, playing with her hair and chewing on her gum. "I wouldn't miss the chance to see you, ladies, every day" he said, flirtatiously, making Bailey roll her eyes while Ivory giggled. "Unfortunately I have to see her-" he pointed towards me with his head "-too, but what can you do" I simply shot a fake smile at him and blew him a kiss.
The girls spoke with him for a little while before he left to go to the principal's office and get things sorted. Peace at last.
Well, that didn't last long, as before I knew it Aiden was coming back, a signature smirk plastered on his face. "That can't be good" I muttered to myself, but he heard it "Don't act so excited yet, I haven't even told you the good news. The new principal says I need to find someone to show me around the campus since I'm new. I guess one of you ladies will have the honor to do that" he explained to all of us, but his eyes were trained on me, suggestively.
"I'll do it" Ivory chimed in and grabbed him by the arm, leading him towards the opposite direction. He turned to face us, mouthing 'Help'. We only laughed and I raised my shoulders "Stop acting like a baby" I mouthed to him and he flipped me off.
"Oh, you're whipped" Bailey nudged me, making me frown and turn to face her "I am so not. Have you seen the guy? He's a total asshole" I pointed towards him. How could she even think such a thing?
Oh, I don't know, maybe because she knows you made out with him?
Shut up.
"I don't know, I think you're pretty damn excited to have him here" she smirked, teasing me. "I am so not!" I fought back. "Let's get something to eat so that I can prove you wrong while feeling good"
