"Open the damn door" bang.
"I know you're in there" bang.
I rubbed my eyes, groaning. Who the hell is at the door so early in the morning and what do they want from me? I clumsily got up, nearly falling over in the process. I walked down the stairs as the curses got louder, and ran towards the door. When I opened it, my knees grew weak and almost gave up on me.
"Lindsay?" my voice came out hoarse, I had just woken up. "Wakey-Wakey Evelyn. You really had me waiting here" she said, giving me her best fake smile. "Can I come in?" she said, although she had already moved past me. "Sure" I muttered, closing the door.
"What brings you here?" I said, pretending to be friendly towards her. "So I was over at my house, calling Aiden, but he wasn't picking up. You'd tell me if he was here, wouldn't you, Eve?" she said, resting her chin on her palms.
"Of course, that's what friends are for" I said, but frowned. "But what made you think he was here, love?" I asked. The room reeked of fakeness, tension, and of course, Lindsay's perfume. "I happened to stop by the bar your little friends were at, thinking he'd be there, but a little birdy told me he left to come find you" she said, her voice dropping.
Oh if I find that damn bird.
"Whoever it was, they were mistaken. I was with a friend all night, so I'm guessing he went home" I played it cool, ignoring my heart that was about to beat out my chest. "That's great, I'm so happy you found yourself a friend. I hope he makes you as happy as Aiden makes me" she smiled.
"How sweet of you to say that" a fake smile was plastered on my face, one that screamed 'if only I could tell you'. "Not that I'm not enjoying your company, but I have places to be. Plus, you need to find Aiden, who knows where he ran off to last night" I said, noticing how her smile dropped at my statement.
"What do you mean" she spoke through gritted teeth, but I kept my composure. "You said you couldn't find him, it was a mere comment" I said, calmly, loving her frustration. My comments seemed to have angered her, as she took a long stride and reached me, grabbing me by the collar and pulling me close to her. "Listen here, honey, I don't need your comments and you better watch your mouth before something bad happens. Am I clear?" she stated.
I simply chuckled, making her seemingly angrier. "What's so funny?" she asked. "You" I replied. "You're so insecure and you keep making it clearer every time I see you. It's quite pathetic if you ask me." I spoke, surprising both her and myself.
"You wanna know what's pathetic? The fact that you're in love with someone who would never feel the same about you. The only reason he kept in touch with you was that he's clearly sorry for you. I mean look at me, and then look at you" she laughed.
I tried not to let her words bring me down, I knew she was just trying to push her insecurities on me, as no confident person would feel the need to make such a comparison. "If you don't need anything else from me, I think it's best if you left. I calmly said, making her smirk. "Sure, I'll give you time to cry in peace" she said, but I chose not to comment on it.
"Remember what I told you today" she said when she walked out the door. "Lindsay?" Aiden's voice was heard, coming from his front door. "Where have you been? I was looking for you everywhere" she scolded him, walking over to where he was. "At home, I was sleeping" he said, giving me a worried look. "What were you doing at Evelyn's?" he asked, crossing his arms over his chest.
She put her hands on them, in an attempt to relax him. "Relax, baby. I just went over to see if you were there" she purred at him. "Why didn't you just come over if you couldn't find me? I think I was clear the last time, you won't be going there again" he stated.
"You know I had no intention to disturb our friend. I was just worried" she said, not convincing either of us. "We'll talk about this later" he said, shutting the door and going towards his car. "Where are you going?" she asked. "The gym. I'll see you later" he said. "Wait up, I need my goodbye kiss." she said, grabbing him by the neck in an attempt to suck his face off.
I looked away, holding back tears. I knew he loved me and that this whole thing would be over soon, but the sight only reminded me that until we find a solution, I can't have what she has with him, even if it's fake. I walked back inside and shut the door quietly, hoping I went unnoticed. I heard the flush from the bathroom and wished it was Jason that had woken up.
"Goodmorning" I heard Cole's voice minutes later. Make wishes they say. "Goodmorning"Â I replied, leaving for my room. "Was Lindsay here?" he said, the use of her name sounding strange coming from him, especially since he wasn't supposed to know her name. "She was, how do you know?" I asked. "Her car was parked outside when I looked from the window" he said.
Ah, my brother's dumber than I thought.
I nodded, giving him some time to realize what he said. He did, and his face went pale. "Cole" I called for him. "Mhm" was his only reply, looking away. "How did you know it was her car?" I asked, pretending it was out of curiosity.
"I saw it when I came to pick you up at school" he muttered. "But we left from the front door, not the parking lot. " I said and he frowned. "Is there a reason we're having this conversation, Evelyn?" he said, trying to gain control of the situation.
"I'm just trying to figure out why you failed to mention you know Lindsay" I smiled, knowing I caught him red-handed. "How did you reach that conclusion?" he asked and I chuckled. "You knew her name without me having told you, you recognized her car, and your excuses aren't adding up. Should there be more?" I spoke.
"Okay, maybe I know her, so what?" he said. "It's kinda funny, considering you called whoever associated with Aiden a criminal. Lindsay's Aiden's girlfriend, so isn't she one too?" I said. "No" he replied. "How do you know her, anyway?" I asked.
"College" he said, and I wanted to run his head through the wall. "Lindsay hasn't gone to college yet" I said. I wasn't sure about that, but I knew for a fact he didn't meet her there.
"If there's something you'd like to know, you'd better ask quick, I'm done with his little chat" he said, and I got up to be on his level. Well, as much as possible. "I wanna know how you met Lindsay" I demanded.
"Why does it matter?" he asked. "It does, can't you just tell me?" I asked. "Fine, we met at a bar" he said, not paying much attention to me. "A bar?" I repeated. "Yes" he said. "Okay" I dropped it. I had heard enough.
"Okay? You're not gonna ask me which bar?" he asked. "Nope. I'll go take a shower" I said, and with that, I was gone, leaving him dumbfounded. I was going to find the answers I needed to get out of this mess, and he'd be the one to give them to me.
Closing my bedroom door, I reached for my phone, which was filled with texts from Axel. The last I received really caught my attention.
Bryan:
I need to see you.
Not giving it too much thought, I called him. "Evelyn? Thank God, I've been trying to reach you" he spoke, sounding relieved. "I saw your text. You said you wanna see me?" I replied. "Yes. I didn't really get the chance to explain myself the other day, I understand you're lost" he said, and I smiled, he was making it way too easy for me to take control of the situation.
"I'm so mad at Aiden, he was trying so hard to prove you were the bad guy and made a fool out of me! I can't believe I was defending him" I said into the phone. I didn't have a plan, I only knew that if he thought I was on his side, he could turn out useful.
"Don't think about him right now, what's done is done" he said, and I decided to go on with my act. "I tried so hard to make things work between us and then I hear this! I'm done with him, I haven't felt more stupid in my life" I said. "I know, I know. Calm down, how about we talk about this over coffee?" he suggested and I agreed.
I took a shower, got dressed, and was on my way. Cole had left once again, but I saw my mum's car pull up in our driveway, something that only made me walk faster.
I reached the coffee shop we had decided to meet at, realizing I was early. Taking a look at the place, I picked a table and took a seat. Minutes went by and my coffee was here, but not the same could be said about Axel.
I tapped my foot against the floor nervously, looking around the room. What if he doesn't show up? I stopped myself from overthinking, he's going to come.
Time went on and finally, I saw him. He stood outside of the cafe, speaking on the phone with someone. I waved at him, but he hadn't seen me. He started walking back and forth, before stopping, his back touching the glass that parted us. He stood so close that I could actually hear what he was saying.
"I'm telling you, there's nothing to worry about. The plan is working"
Of course she's buying it, I have her wrapped around my finger, she'll believe anything now"
"I told you it'd be perfect, I convinced her I care about her, and now she's on my side"
"What? Are you fucking stupid? Of course not. I just need her to think I do"
He started pacing again, not allowing me to hear the rest of the conversation. My nails dug into the inside of my palm. He was playing with me this whole time and I felt bad about him? The urge to get up and leave before he saw me was too strong, but I fought against it. It was the perfect chance for me to gain any information I could from him, I couldn't let it go.
He ended the call, putting his phone in his pocket, before walking inside. He spotted me and walked away. I offered a small smile and waved at him.
Lights, camera, action.

I'm a senior in high school, and lemme just say: this shit's tough
Gladly, I have a few pre-written chapters left, but I barely have time to post them.
I'm sitting some very important exams at the end of May, and I barely have time to go the bathroom if you know what I'm saying.
