I sprayed a generous amount of hairspray on my hair for the tenth time, most likely overdoing it. Needless to say I was nervous for tonight, as it was my first prom in a while, and It wasn't exactly going the way I had imagined it.
I smoothed my dress, still uncertain about wearing it. I turned to look at my closet, considering changing even last minute, before a thought came to me. No. Î deserve to feel good, and as queen Ri says "fake it 'till you make it".
I sighed for the eightieth time in the last ten minutes, before the doorbell was heard. "Evelyn! Noah's here" Cole could be heard, sounding more bored than he does when mum talks to him. "Coming!" I replied, resisting the urge to fix my dress once again. I grabbed my jacket and walked down the stairs.
There, I saw Noah attempting to make small talk with Cole, but with no luck. "Hey" I said, and making Noah turn my way, and briefly I saw his eyes light up. "Hey..you, uh, you look.. stunning" he complimented me, and I smiled. "Thanks, you don't look too bad yourself". Â I replied. "So, shall we?" I suggested and he agreed.
Noah walked out first after wishing Cole a goodnight, but I took a step to follow him, I was stopped by my brother's arm. "Does this mean Black's done for good?" he asked, and I nodded. "For good". He seemed to enjoy my response, because a smile took over his face.
"Go have fun, kid" he said, and I smiled. "I will" I said, before walking towards the car with Noah.

"This is us" Noah said as he parked the car. "Yup" I agreed, looking down at my lap, as to avoid the awkward tension that had formed between us.
"Are you nervous?" he asked and I lifted my gaze. "Is it that obvious?" I replied, and he nodded giving me a simpathetic smile. "There's no reason to be. I'll be by your side the whole night" he assured me and I gave him a smile, although I wanted to burst out crying. That's the problem.
"Wanna head inside?" he said, and I nodded. He left the car and I reached to open my door, but before I could get the handle, another hand did it for me. Noah opened the for and gave me a hand to help me get out the car, although It wasn't needed.
I took a look around, my gaze falling on Aiden with a certain someone, as well as Maya with...Parker? Oh, mama.
"Hey you guys!" Noah greeted them. Parked and him engaged in a small chat while I went over to Maya, and we started a conversation of our own, only ours was nearly silent.
"Why are you not with Aiden?" she asked and I smiled. "Did you really think I'd come here with Aiden?" I whispered, my heart sinking every time I looked their way. Her hands were on his arms, stroking them as she whispered things in his ear, and God knows I don't want to find out what she was saying.
His hands bothered me the most, though. They were all over her, going from her waist to lower, and I caught the mischievous smirk plastered on his face.
"I shouldn't have come here" I said, tearing my eyes away before either of them saw me. "Hey, that's not right" she protested. "This whole thing Is messed up, it shouldn't be the reason why you won't have fun. It's your senior prom" she said, putting a hand on my shoulder.
"Enough about me...you and Parker?" I questioned. She chuckled, shaking her head. "It's not like that. I just didn't want to come alone to yet another party" she said. "Understandable, but... isn't there anyone you like? Out of everyone in this shithole, no one has caught your eye?" I asked, knowing the answer to my question already.
"I'm not sure I want it to. Aiden caught your eye and we see how that went. Plus, with graduation coming up, I don't want to start something I can't finish, you know?" she explained. "M, graduation is months away, don't let that keep you from finding somebody. Also, Aiden? that's your prime example?" I replied, laughing. She joined me.
"What are we laughing about?" We heard Ivory's voice, and turned to look at her. She was stunning, surprising everyone with a long dress. The waves in her hair made her face stand out, and she looked absolutely gorgeous next to... Axel?
I kept my mouth from falling open, and judging by their expressions, the guys were having a hard time doing so themselves.
In any other case, I would speak just to break the awkward silence, but I was too busy trying to get a hold of my emotions. Anger, betrayal, confusion were just few of the things I felt, seeing my best friend next to him. She was trying to convince me to go to prom with him hours ago, and now she does this?
"Uh, nothing, we were just commenting on... Mitch and Lauren, yeah" Maya spoke first. "Who's Mitch and Lauren?" I whispered and she elbowed me subtly. "Out of all the people in this town there's gotta be a Mitch and Lauren." she whisper-yelled.
"They came together? What a tragedy." she commented, making Maya shoot me a 'I told you so' look. The air around us felt as if we were inside a burning building, as no one dared comment on her choice of date. To make things even better, mr and mrs Johanson joined us. "Hey you guys" she said, giving a victorious smile.
"I didn't know you spoke to us" Noah spoke. "Aidie's friends are my friends, too. I'll be around now, so we might as well be able to hang without problems" she stated. Be around? That's the last thing we fucking need right now.
Bailey narrowed her eyes as she approached us. "What is she doing here" she mouthed and I pointed to Aiden with my head. Jagger followed suit and his eyes instantly fell on Maya, their gazes locking on each other.
On the other hand, Aiden hadn't looked at me once since we came here, and I tried my best to remind myself I had come with Noah anyway. "Shall we go inside?" my date suggested, and we all -very reluctantly- agreed.
"Noah?" Bailey questioned as we walked inside. "Jagger?" I fired back. "Man, he's all fuelled up by this girl he's crushing on and he didn't want to come alone" she explained. Fueled up?
"Spoke with Aiden yet?" she asked, and I shook my head. "He won't even look at me" I replied and she rolled her eyes. "I know you're insanely in love with him and shit, but I want to kick his ass more and more" she stated and I shoved her slightly.
Once we were inside, I felt a hand take hold of my own. "Not so bad" Noah said, looking around. I agreed. "Could be much worse, judging by our school's budget" I said and he chuckled. Within seconds, our group had spread out. Lindsay was dragging Aiden around, wanting to take pictures, while Bailey and Jagger went straight for the booze. Maya and Parker on the other hand went over to greet Parker's friends -as in half the school.
As for Ivory and Axel...well we couldn't track them down, but in the given moment I was quite glad about that. "Need a drink?" Noah proposed and I smiled, nodding. "Please".

"Did you see that guy's face?" Noah held his ribs as he laughed. "I don't think he looked this terrified watching the Nun" I replied. We had spent the last two hours getting drunk and dancing like idiots, and quite resonably caught a few eyes.
Suddenly, the music changed from upbeat to slow, and all the couples took to the floor to dance. I looked around, dreading the moment the two words would come out of Noah's mouth.
My eyes fell on a couple I had managed to forget about. His hands were on her hips, while hers played with the hair on his neck, a habit I had grown to love, myself. Their lips were sealed and they didn't seem ready to stop any moment now.
I shook my head, focusing my attention to the ground instead, as the familiar feeling on my chest had grown uncomfortable. Without giving it too much thought, I let the words I dreaded slip out of my mouth instead.
"Wanna dance?" I asked him, and he seemed equally as shocked as I was. "Sure" he agreed, and extended his hand for me to take. He led us to the floor and took hold of my waist. I shyly put my hands around his neck, instantly feeling as If I was doing something very wrong.
Noah's voice shook me out of my trance. "Maybe this is the wrong time, but I need to speak to you" he said and my blood froze. "What about?" I asked, and judging by the look on his face I wasn't sure whether I wanted to hear the rest.
"I found a date for today" he said, and I narrowed my eyes, confused. "Well, obviously" I said, chuckling. "No, I mean... I found a date, I didn't 'lose' " he explained and I felt my last braincells burning off. "I dont think I'm getting what you're saying" I replied, and he sighed.
"I made up this...game, to get you to go to prom with me" he said and momentarily I stopped moving. I looked at him, puzzled. "Noah, where are you going with this?" I asked. "I kinda have a thing for you. I've liked you for a while now, I just didn't know how to tell you. I... I really like you Evelyn" he confessed, and suddenly I felt the walls get smaller and smaller around us.
