"What the fuck do you mean by we're fucked?" Lyle snaps and my answer gets cut of when there's a crack in the door, the head of the wolf sticking through it as it snarls at us.
"Oh we're fucked." Jay says staring wide eyed at the wolf. I quickly push them to the hallway closet, locking the door behind us and barricading it. Lyle begins to panic, his breath coming out short and Jay continues to murmur 'we're fucked' under his breath.
I run my fingers through my hair, tugging on the ends in frustration as I try to pace in the little space. Fuck! What do I do? And where is Artemis? We all freeze when the sound of the door hitting the ground meets our ears, the snarls of the wolves echoing around the apartment.
Jay let's out a squeak and I quickly slap my palms against his mouth bringing my finger to my lips. "Quiet." I mouth and he quickly nods his head. I glance in Lyle's direction to see him frozen solid just staring at the door with wide eyes.
I bite on my lip thinking hard, fuck I left my phone on the counter. I look at Jay making my hand into a 'call me' sign and he shakes his head quickly his dark hair flopping onto his forehead. Shutting my eyes tightly, I clench my jaw raising my hand to my neck, rubbing the mark vigorously than before.
Lyle is a lost cause at the moment so asking him won't do us any good. The bouncing of my leg stops when all of a sudden the light shining underneath the door is blocked, a shadow looming over it as it sniffs around and my breath hitches in my throat when it starts growling at the door. Lyle opens his mouth to scream and I quickly slap my hand against it shaking my head at him to be quiet.
My jaw tightening when we hear more growls behind the door as they try to break it down. Their claws making a screeching sound against the wood and my heart beats fast against my chest.
Going out there is basically suicide but staying here too well we're gonna die. I back them slowly against the back of the closet when a ray of light suddenly shines through the crack in the door, a black eye peeking through before a head slams against creating another crack.
I rub the mark intensely hoping that Artemis can fucking feel it or something.
Artemis where are you? I'm kind of in a pickle right now and I could gladly use your help.
Lyle and Jay shake in fright behind me and I glare at the door watching in silence as the crack becomes bigger and bigger until the door is snapped of it's hinges. Their black eyes narrowing into slits as the grey wolf steps forward, mouth curled into a snarl baring it's teeth at me.
It suddenly steps forward opening the jaws wide and a hand suddenly reaches forward clamping it's mouth shut, the sound of a tongue clicking against the roof of a mouth and a soft voice toots. "Naughty little wolf, didn't your mom teach you not to touch things that don't belong to you."
Artemis.
As if hearing me she looks up red eyes staring at me, lips tugged up in a smile. "Sorry I'm late mate, there was a bit of traffic on the way." Red says and proceeds to twist the head with the neck facing upwards and the head hanging low to the ground. She pushes it aside standing in front of me and looks over her shoulder winking.
Facing them she points to each one of them."Alright assholes let's make this quick." Red murmurs placing her hand behind her.The dark brown wolf snarls running for us and Red tilts her head to the side and I watch silence as it hind legs snap and it howls in pain before the front legs also snaps shifting out of place and it slides forward resting at Red's feet, a whimpering sound escaping him.
My jaw drops, eyes wide as Red steps over the body her arms still clasped behind her back. The other two slowly back away from her, growls rumbling deep within their throats. I step over the body following them into the living room.
She raises her finger pointing go the black wolf. "I usually don't like to leave survivors but I guess I'll make an exception."
The light brown wolf slowly creeps on its stomach from Red's back and I open my mouth ready to warn her but she suddenly turns around when it jumps, catching it by neck, her lips curled into a snarl and narrows her eyes at it. The wolf struggles in her hold thrashing around, trying to swipe it's claw at her face.
Red squeezes it neck tighter and it whimpers before she digs her fingers into the fur around the neck, quickly ripping it's throat out. The blood splattering across her face as the body drops to the ground, the throat still in her hand. She licks her lips raising her hand to wipe the blood from her face before flinging the throat somewhere across the room.
"Disgusting." She murmurs raising her head to smile at me but it slowly drops from her face and she runs towards me eyes glowing almost like a flame as a growl echoes around the room. She tackles me to the ground quickly turning herself to lie flat on my chest and I grunt from the force, openly staring at the black wolf jumping over us and she grips the tail before it can run away throwing it across the room, the back hitting the counter in the kitchen.
She jumps to her feet, quickly doing a back flip landing on the counter, a harsh breath escaping her lips as she digs her hands into the back, a crazed look in her eyes and rips the spine out.
It howls loudly, eyes rolling to the back before it falls to the ground in a pool of its blood.
That is going to leave a stain.
Red exhales a heavy breath jumping down from the counter with shoulders tensed and eyes wide alert. I stare openly at her looking around the room with the amount of blood splattered on the couch and floor before bringing my gaze back to her.
She blows her hair from her face lips tugging up in a slow smirk as she stalks towards me in slow steps, coming to a stop right in front of me and raises her hand to cupping my cheeks; her eyes softening. "Are you okay?"
I nod my head too speechless to make a sound.
"Oh my God." A voice whispers from behind me and my eyes widen in shock. How could I have forgotten about them. Red smirks looking over my shoulder, wiggling her fingers in a wave and I gulp slowly turning around to face Jay and Lyle, their jaws dropped to the ground, eyes taking everything in around them and they simultaneously take a step back when their gaze lands on a bloody Artemis or should I say Red.
I raise my hand up taking a step forward. "I can explain."
Jay takes one look at the spine in Artemis hand and he eyes roll to the back of his head, dropping to the ground.
I stare at Jay in shock and Red giggles pointing at him. "He just fainted."
I purse my lips, looking at Lyle to see him standing there in shock. "I knew something was weird about Artemis." He whispers before also dropping to the ground.
"Ha! Your friends are bitches." Red exclaims loudly pointing towards the two unconscious body in front of us.
I turn narrowing my eyes at her, looking up when someone suddenly walks into the room, a lollipop in his mouth as he assess the situation around him with a frown. "What did I miss?" Ollie mumbles staring at my friends in confusion and I smack my forehead.
We are at Artemis house right now, Red is still Red, she hasn't given Artemis control yet. Selena walks in with a bowl of water in her hand making her way towards Jay and Lyle who are still unconscious in Artemis living room. Selena tilts her head to one side, cocking her hips and observes them for a minute then shrugs dumping the water on them.
They both get up with a jolt, Lyle unfortunately being the one closer to the edge of the couch falls down smacking his head against the table.
He let's out a whine raising his hand to his head, a hiss escaping his mouth when his finger makes contact with the bump on the side of his head. He freezes staring at the carpet then suddenly looks up eyes going wide.
"You..." He whispers pointing to Red with shaky fingers and she smiles pointing to herself, nodding her head.
"Yes me, how's it going?"
He gulps staring openly at her, his shirt drenched with water, some of it trickling from his hair to his mouth but he pays no mind leaning away from Red when she bends down to his level. She lifts her finger to the strands of curls flopping on his forehead and twirls them around her finger, a curious look in her eyes.
Lyle let's out a squeak, eyes shut tightly and Red chuckles under her breath, lifting her eyes up to stare at Jay who honestly I think the whole situation hasn't hit him yet.
I purse my lips at her, lifting her by the waist and pulling her away from Lyle and Jay. She pouts, crossing her arms in front of her and allowing her body to go slack so her feet drag against the ground.
Stopping at the kitchen, I try to make her stand straight but she refuses shaking her head at me. I frown, narrowing my eyes at her. "If you don't stand well I'm going to drop you."
She turns her head away from me. "Hmph, go ahead."
I stare down at her flatly. "I'm serious Red."
"I don't care." She mutters begrudgingly and I huff lifting my hand to flicker her forehead. She quickly stands, turning around to glare at me, hand raised to her forehead as she rubs the spot.
"I hate it when you do that." She states bluntly a scowl on her face.
I smirk, stuffing my hand into my pockets before shrugging. "I know but it made you stand up."
She looks at her feet, pressing her lips together the scowl forming even deeper before her lips tug up in a slow smirk. "Well played mate."
I chuckle nodding my head before a serious expression takes over my face. "You need to let Artemis back."
She cocks her hips to one side raising her brow at me. "Why should I do that?"
I stare at her flatly. "Why shouldn't you?"
She drops her hand to her side, nodding her head a dejected look on her face. "I guess so."
I frown at the sad look on her face, stepping forward to pull her in hug and she eagerly returns it, nuzzling her face against my chest. "What's wrong?"
She sighs squeezing my waist tightly. "I never get to spend time with you."
Leaning the side of my face against her hair, my brows furrow in confusion. "Aren't you and her the same person?"
She pulls back arms still wrapped around me her eyes narrowed into slits. "Same body different personalities. She's too soft to be me."
A chuckle escapes me. "Soft?"
"Yes soft." She responds.
"Uh guys.." We turn suddenly to see Selena peeking her head through the door.
"Yes."
She looks behind her shoulder, turning to face us again her lips pressed together as she rubs her palm on her arm, a nervous look on her face. "I think you should check up on your friends."
A low growl rumbles from Red's throat. "What did Ollie do?"
My eyes widen and I quickly grab her shoulders turning her around, violet eyes staring back at me with a smile playing on her lips. "Hi." She whispers.
I sigh in relief placing a kiss on her forehead before pulling back, a grin on my face. "Hi."
Artemis words gets cut of when we hear a scream. Our eyes widen together and we quickly rush to the living room to see Lyle and Jay backed in a corner, arms wrapped tightly around themselves as they shriek loudly.
I slowly move my eyes toward their source of screams, a glare automatically appearing on my face. Artemis snarls and Ollie turns his head to the side, tongue rolling out of his mouth with what I can describe as a wolfish grin on his face.
"Knox." Artemis begins in a warning tone and he lays down, raising his paw towards his face, covering his eyes a small whine escaping his mouth.
Artemis let's out a frustrated groan. "Shift." She orders and electric blue eyes stare at her before obeying, bones snapping back into place and a naked Ollie stands in front us, a small smirk playing on his lips.
"Sup?"
Artemis squints her eyes at him, pointing towards Lyle and Jay. "What did you do?"
He shrugs walking around the room, throwing himself on the couch and resting his hand underneath his head a content smile on his lips. "Making them believe that werewolves exist."
I clench my jaw, picking the throw pillow from the ground and smacking it hard against his balls.
"Fucking hell!" He groans cupping. "What the fuck was that for?"
I shrug a fake smile on my face. "Making you believe that your balls exist."
He scowls at me flipping me off. I narrow my eyes at him, pointing to my friends still backed against the corner with Selena trying to comfort them only for them to flinch when she gets closer. "Why did you have to shift in front of them? They just saw something strange and then you go ahead to fucking do this!" I snap in anger.
Ollie stands to his feet eyes hardening. "We wouldn't be in trouble if Red hadn't been careless and exposed us and if you hadn't been a dumbass by running to your apartment!"
He has a point.
Artemis steps forward, face blank but her voice soft maybe a little too soft. "Ollie sit down."
He observes her for a minute before nodding, sitting down and placing the pillow on his lap. Well at least he had the decency to cover it up.
The glare still on my face, soft hands touch my arm and I quickly snap my gaze to Artemis, my eyes softening. She smiles pointing to the loveseat and I nod, pulling her down to my lap wrapping my arms tightly around her waist and pulling her flush against me.
She leans back, the scent of vanilla clouding my mind and I find myself relaxing.
"Ollie." She begins softly smiling at him. "You know I love you like a brother right.".
He sits up straight, a cheeky grin playing on his lips, eyes staring deviously at her. "I actually remember you having a crush on me."
I freeze, narrowing my eyes at him and Artemis let's out giggle throwing her hand in front of her in the 'stop it' gesture.
My jaw tightens and I tug on her hair, mouth opening in shock when she brushes me off leaning forward slightly the same smile still on her face.
"Right so let me make one thing clear." And the smile drops, a blank look on her face as violet eyes glow at Ollie, her voice taking a threatening tone. "If you ever talk to me or Storm like that again I can assure you that your balls won't exist for real." She ends with a smiles.
I shiver from how creepy her voice just sounded and Ollie gulps quickly nodding his head. Selena let's out a sigh, helping a trembling Jay and Lyle on the couch.
Jay is the first to speak up, his voice slightly shaky. "You're werewolves?"
Artemis sighs nodding her head. "Yes we are."
He nods biting hard on his bottom lip in concentration before he looks up, eyes widening. "Oh my gosh! Storm you're a werewolf too!"
"Wait--what?! No!" I retort in surprise. He frowns pointing towards Artemis, Selena and Ollie.
"But they are werewolves and you hang out with them so you must be one." He trails off and I narrow my eyes at him.
"The fact that I hangout with them doesn't mean I'm them." I reply and he closes his eyes tightly letting out a frustrated sigh, fingers running through his hair messing it up.
"But- but---"
"How long have you known?" Lyle speaks up cutting Jay off, raising his head to stare at with a blank look on his face.
I purse my lips at him, fuck he's mad at me. "Almost eight months."
He makes a weird sound at the back of his throat, staring at me with a frown before he nods his head.
It seems Artemis notices the tension between us because she sighs, brows furrowed. "Lyle don't be mad at him."
Lyle scoffs pushing his curls from his face. "Mad? I'm not mad just disappointed."
Fuck that's even worse.
"Disappointed?" I question.
He nods his head at me. "Yes disappointed that you couldn't trust your friends to tell us about this." He let's out a chuckle shaking his head to himself. "Explains the MIA that has been happening."
"Lyle just-
"I don't want to hear your excuse!" He snaps and Artemis growls eyes shifting between red and violet. I quickly bury her face in my neck, I learnt that my scent calms her and she takes in deep breaths her body relaxing in my hold. Lyle stares at us, forehead scrunching up in confusion.
"I'm calm." She murmurs against my skin pulling back. I grab her head keeping my gaze on her to make sure they are back to the dull violet and sighing in relief when her eyes are back normal.
"See I'm calm." She murmurs placing a kiss on my forehead. She unwraps my arms from her waist, rising to her feet hands clasped behind her back as she faces them.
"Lyle I can understand why you might feel the way you are- let me finish." She says softly narrowing her eyes when Lyle opens his mouth to speak. She sighs tying her hair up in a messy bun. "I understand how it feels but you can't blame Storm for it. It's late and Jay doesn't look so good. So how about Selena shows you to the guest rooms and when you wake up in the morning we can talk.
"I don't think I'd be comfortable-
"Lyle go." She cuts him off giving him a meaningful stare and he narrows his eyes at her a tired sigh escaping his lips before he nods helping Jay who looks lost.
Selena taps Jay's shoulder and he flinches stepping away from her and drawing closer to Lyle. She sighs sadly giving him a small smile before leading the way up stairs.
"Ollie, I want you to get Damien and Scott in my office tomorrow morning and also take some of the warriors with you to Storm's apartment. Make sure there's no trace of supernatural." She says stretching her hand towards me and I grab it placing my hand in hers.
Ollie let's out a groan, standing to his full height, ready to protest and one look at Artemis' face he presses his lips into a thin line bowing his head. "Yes Alpha Artemis."
She smiles pointing to the front door. "Get out."
Ollie scoffs under his breath rolling his eyes and walks out making sure to bang the door on his way.
I purse my lip turning around to face Artemis. "He was still naked."
She giggles shaking her head at me. "Let's go to bed then we can talk tomorrow."
Waking up without Artemis by my side put me in grumpy mood, going downstairs and not finding her anywhere in the house was even worse.
How am I meant to deal with this situation?
"Aren't you gonna talk?" Lyle questions. Raising my head, I sigh wetting my lips before nodding.
"Where should I start from?" I mutter to myself rubbing my pointer finger against my chin in thought.
"How about the beginning." Jay suggests. So that's what I do, I explain everything from the camp, to who Artemis, Ollie and Selena are, who I am to Artemis and the other stuff and after I'm done they both have their jaws dropped.
Lyle runs his fingers through his hair, forehead scrunching up. "You're saying that she's an Alpha of the most dangerous and feared pack and she's your mate or whatever."
I shrug nodding my head. "Yup."
"Wow." He murmurs staring at me in surprise. My gaze shift towards Jay who hasn't spoken a word since I started, a frown adorning his face as he stares at the table deep in thought.
"Jay.. "I trail of cautiously watching as he looks up, the frown still on his face, lips pressed into a thin line.
"Are you okay?" I question and he shakes his head, dark hair flopping to his forehead, tired bags under his eyes.
"I can't believe I was interested in a werewolf." He speaks up after sometime chuckling to himself and tugs on the ends of his hair letting out a scream.
His sudden outburst startles Lyle and I causing us to take a step back from him.
"Jay..." Lyle says cautiously approaching him with his hand raised up. Jay looks up eyes wide, chewing hard on his bottom lip and running his fingers through his hair severally. "She's still Selena."
He scoffs shutting his eyes tightly. "But a werewolf."
The sound of the front door opening with footsteps coming towards the kitchen grabs our attention and we all turn to see Artemis standing in the door way, violet eyes looking at each one of us, her gaze lingering on me and smiles. I return the smile, stretching my arms outwards and she giggles walking straight into my arms wrapping hers tightly around my waist and nuzzling her face against my chest a soft purr escaping her.
We both freeze, Artemis pulling back from me a blush coating her cheeks as she avoids my gaze. "It wasn't me." She mutters.
I raise my brow at her an amused smile on my face. "Oh really?"
"Mmm."
"Who was it then?" I muse pressing my lips together when she bites her lower lip wringing her fingers nervously in front of her.
"Red." She responds.
I chuckle shaking my head at her. "Sure it is."
A throat clears and we turn around immediately, an unimpressed look on Lyle and Jay's face. Lyle shifts his gaze towards Artemis, a gasp escaping him.
"Your eyes.."He trails off pointing at her.
Is he now noticing it?
Jay gasps as well, stepping close to her. He cups her cheeks bringing her face closer to his, brows furrowed as he searches her eyes with his own.
My jaw tightens and I place my palm in between their faces pushing Jay's face away from hers, my face hardening when he scowls at me.
"You can look at it from all the way there." I snap pointing at where Lyle is standing.
He gives me a flat look, rolling his eyes at me. "Whatever."
Artemis giggles leaning her head against my arm and I wrap mine around her waist pulling her closer to my side and placing a kiss on her head.
"How are your eyes violet? Is it coloured contacts or something?" Lyle questions still staring at her in shock and she shrugs.
"I was born with it."
His jaw drops as he stares at her in awe and Jay let's out a low whistle. She smiles shaking her head at them before a solemn expression takes over her face. "I'm really sorry about what happened yesterday with the apartment thing."
Lyle shrugs making himself comfortable on the chair. "I think it has not hit me yet but thanks for saving us."
Artemis nods at him.
"Although I have a question to ask." He murmurs hesitantly at her and she nods her head. He let's out a sigh, rubbing his palm nervously against his jeans. "You looked like a different person yesterday with the red eyes. Was that you or something?"
Or something, I mentally say looking at Artemis to see her lips pursed.
She sighs tucking her hair behind her ear. "I don't know how much Storm has explained but I have a wolf within me and she's called Red. She was the one you saw, we are the same person just that well she's a bit different that I am."
Lyle scrunches up his face in confusion. "How is that even possible?"
She shrugs stepping away from me. "I don't know how to explain it for you to understand but just think of her as an alter ego."
He nods his head along to what she's saying but I doubt he understands.
"So I heard you're the Alpha?" Jay speaks up and her eyes shift to him. A weird sound comes from his throat when Artemis stares at him and he looks away muttering something low under his breath.
"Her eyes are not creepy!" I snap glaring at him and his eyes widen in shock.
"How..." He trails of and I narrow my eyes into slits.
Artemis smiles shaking her head at the both of us. "To answer your question, yes I am the Alpha but that is not important right now."
I frown at the serious tone her voice has taken. "What's wrong?"
She sighs biting on her bottom lip clearly deciding on whether or not she should tell me and I grab her shoulders turning her to face me, my eyes searching hers. "You need to trust me enough to tell me what is happening."
She furrows her brows. "I do trust you, it's just that I don't want you to be terrified."
I scoff at her. "Terrified? Artemis your whole world terrifies me but I chose to stay and not because I am your mate but because I want to be with you, be there for you when you need me and share every single moment with you. Besides I'm also the alpha of this pack so if anything is going on in my pack, I should know about it." I end winking at her.
She smiles proudly at me, her eyes softening and stands on her tip toe placing a kiss against my jaw. "Thank you Storm."
She pulls back rubbing the pads of her thumb fondly against my cheeks and letting out a sigh.
I grin rubbing circles against her waist, allowing her to take her step back from me, a serious look on her face.
"Remember when you were attacked and you said I should save that blonde wolf?" She questions and I nod my head remembering the day I thought I was finally going to be food for someone.
"What about it?"
She sighs sitting beside Lyle who has a look of curiosity on his face. "Well we have been talking and apparently he never wanted to be apart of the attacks but they had his seven year old sister."
My jaw tightens when I hear that. "Where is she?"
"She's safe here." She replies and I sigh in relief.
"What about those keeping her captive?"
In all my life I have seen a lot of surprising things including when Damien showed the tiniest bit of emotion on his face but what is surprising is seeing a devious smirk slowly crawling on Artemis lips, her eyes glazing over as if remembering what happened that day before letting out a low chuckle eyes glowing.
"Uh what is happening?" Jay questions confusingly inching away from the table and Lyle leans back, a terrified look on his face.
She chuckles once again shaking her head to herself. "They are dead."
I raise my brow at her. "Artemis." I drawl out slowly and she looks up innocently shaking her head to herself and sighs.
"Anyway, he gave me some information regarding the attacks." She says walking out from the kitchen, I follow her with Jay and Lyle behind me. "They are trying to create an army to take control over all werewolves most importantly my pack and how they do this is through mind control."
I frown. "Mind control?"
She nods pulling her phone out of her pocket, typing something on it before she places it down turning to face me. "When I went to meet the Alpha of Rogues---
"The douche you saw naked." I state flatly cutting her off and she rolls her at me.
"We had a bit of trouble in his pack and after the whole thing we met a wolf who had absolutely no idea what he was doing. At first I thought it was only rogues but they take pack members as well and it seems that for pack members they have their mind controlled and once they gain control, they have no recollection of what happened."
I run my fingers through my hair digesting this piece of information before something hits me. "Is that the reason why their eyes turn black?"
She nods.
Groaning, I place my elbow on my lap, supporting my chin with fist, brows furrowed as I think of everything that has happened. Werewolves, witches now mind control. I look up to see Artemis staring at me with a concern.
"So why did they come to our apartment?" Jay questions and Artemis let's out a low growl startling Jay and Lyle who take a step back.
Her eyes glowing as she stares hard at the wall behind me with fist clenched tightly to her side. "They found out about Storm being my mate."
"What?" I say eyes widening and she clenches her jaw nodding her head. "But how?"
She runs her finger through her hair, picking up her phone when it makes a ding sound, a frown on her face when she sees whatever is on it before letting out a frustrated groan. "There's a mole in the pack."
A mole?? I look at her waiting for her to explain but then it hits me. "That is why there have been so many attacks on our pack." I whisper trailing off.
She purses her lips nodding her head. "Yes and that is why Esme's spell didn't work because the person is using magic that disrupts the rhythm of the actual spell so once I find who ever it is then the barrier will hold."
This is messed up. Why would anyone want to betray their pack let alone Artemis when they know how she is.
"I'm so sorry about this, for unintentionally dragging you into this world." She says watching Lyle and Jay with an apologetic look on her face.
Lyle shrugs. "I'm still spooked by the whole thing but honestly I had suspicions that you were different just wasn't sure what kind of different you were."
Jay scoffs staring at him incredulously. "What about me? I had no idea and then I end up even liking one too!"
"Oh right about that." Artemis says staring at Jay sheepishly. "Selena wants to speak to you."
He freezes staring wide eyed at her. "Why?"
"I'm not sure but I think she wants to explain-" her words get cut of by the ringing of her phone and she stares at it with a frown quickly answering it. Her face changing along with every word until she growls, eyes shifting to red.
She ends the call holding the phone tightly in her fist until it snaps in half, the screen cutting her palm. My eyes widening and I quickly grab her hand checking for any cuts and I watch as the wound slowly closes up.
Raising my eyes towards her, searching within those red angry eyes as she stares straight ahead. "Red.." I trail off and she snaps her gaze to me.
"Oh my Jesus." Jay whispers taking a step back.
I ignore them focusing my attention on her. "What happened?"
She chuckles wetting her lips. "Some people are going to die a painful death." And before I can ask her what she means, she disappears from my sight and the only consolation I know that she actually moved is the sound of the front door falling to the ground with a bang.
What happened with the call?
A/n; So some of you asked me if Storm was going to turn into a werewolf or not and the answer is no. I decided that instead of making him a werewolf which trust me I'm still actually thinking about it, I would rather give him certain qualities of a werewolf. But who knows maybe I might actually make him one or maybe not but for now he's just a regular human with werewolf abilities.
