Storm's pov
I drag Artemis behind me as we head to the door of my apartment when she suddenly stops, grabbing my wrist. I turn around to face her with a questioning look and she chews on her lips, wringing her fingers nervously in front of her.
I frown, stepping closer to her and I gently pull her lips from her mouth before placing a chaste kiss on it. She looks away blushing and I smile, kissing the side of her head.
"I can handle it Artemis, don't worry." I say clearly knowing what is running through that pretty head of hers.
She sighs in relief, giving me a smile and I grin in return. Taking deep breaths, I open the door, stepping inside and immediately Lyle and Jay rush towards us with panic written on their face only to freeze when they see Artemis behind me.
Lyle is the first to come out of his shock and he shakes his head, muttering under his breath. "Those violet eyes still leave me speechless."
I frown, quickly whipping my head around to see that her eyes are still violet.
She shrugs. "They know so it doesn't matter if I show my eyes anyway."
I purse my lips but sigh dropping it, well it was bound to happen anyway. I look around the apartment, a frown on my face and as if knowing what or should I say who I'm looking for, Lyle squeezes my shoulder with a solemn look.
"She's in your room."
I sigh, nodding my head before I turn around to face Artemis. "Can you wait here?"
"Yeah don't worry." She says softly, a small smile on her face and I smile, pressing my lips on her forehead. I step away, taking quick strides towards my room. I just hope she's not crying and just to make sure, I lean my ear against the door, listening for any sound only to frown when I hear nothing. Is she even there?
Taking deep breaths, I give myself a mental pep talk before twisting the handle and stepping into my room. I clench my fist to my side, eyes narrowing as I take in the scene before me.
Sunny has her back facing me as she sits on the floor, her knees brought against her chest and shakes her head muttering 'it can be true' under her breath. I take slow steps towards her, afraid that the slightest noise is going to scare her.
"Sunny." I call hesitantly and she tenses up still not facing me. I bite my lip, thinking hard on how to do this.
I walk closer to her. "Sunny, it's me Storm." Still no response except for her constant denial of what Ollie probably told or showed her. This makes me wonder how he did it? Stopping behind her, I rest my hand on her shoulder and she jerks forward, whipping her head around to stare at me with blank teary eyes.
My gaze softens and I go on my knees quickly pulling her into her hug. "It's okay just let it out."
Her frame quivers in my arms and as if feeling tired she suddenly cries, clutching my shirt tightly in her fist as she shakes her head repeatedly. "It's not real Storm."
My heartbreaks at the gut wrenching sobs escaping from her lips. Oh damn, I wonder what will happen if she finds out that I know. I mentally sigh, she is definitely going to be mad at me but it wasn't my secret to tell as well. If Ollie wasn't her mate, I wouldn't have even bothered with this but sadly he is and now she knows.
"What happened Sunny?" I question when her sobs turn into quiet sniffles. She raises her head from my chest, red teary eyes staring at me.
"O-ollie said something." She stutters, her lips trembling as she looks down.
"What did he say?" You know what he said Storm so why ask.
She shakes her head, looking down deep in thought. "H-he w-was talking about something a-an-and he just, I don't know." She breaks down again and I look up, closing my eyes tightly. Damn it.
Taking deep breaths, I push her at arms length, staring into her blues eyes. "Did he talk about werewolves?"
Sunny stiffens, her eyes wide and brows furrowed. "W-what? H-how?"
I sigh, helping her to her feet. Bending down slightly, I stare deep into her eyes. "He is right, they exist."
Might as well get straight to the point.
Her lips part slightly as she stares at me blankly. I continue looking at her, wondering what is running through her mind right now. It's quiet until she lets out a chuckle and that chuckle turns into a full blown laugh.
"Oh I get it." She says suddenly still laughing. "This is a prank right? You and Ollie are just messing with-
Why does this suddenly give me a deja vu vibe.
"We're not." I cut her off seriously and she frowns stepping away from me. I gulp, wetting my lips as I stare at her. The sooner she knows, the better she can be safe from those people. "I'm sure he turned into a wolf right?"
She tenses up when I say that, the blood slow draining from her face and I give her a small smile. "It's all true Sunny, whatever he said and he is your-
"NO!" She yells startling me. "It's not true! He didn't! It must have been something else and not that!" She says hyperventilating and my eyes widen.
I walk towards her but she steps away from me.
"Don't come any closer!" She snaps and I purse my lips raising my hand in surrender.
"You have to believe me Sunny, you know I don't like to make up things."
She scoffs, glaring in my direction. "Well I don't know anymore Storm! I'm not going to fall for this!"
I tug my hair in frustration. This is harder than I fucking thought.
I close my eyes, opening them again with determination. Sunny frowns when she looks at me and I step closer to her. "You're gonna listen to me because its for your own safety."
Something in my voice must have made her relax a bit but she still has the glare on her face. Taking deep breaths, I start narrating everything to her from the beginning and her face just remained blank through out but I noticed the slight anger in her eyes when she heard about me getting kidnapped before it's replaced with something unreadable.
"So that is it Sunny and I know you believe it." I finally say.
She purses her lip, narrowing her eyes at me. "Why are you now telling me this?" She accuses and I sigh.
"It wasn't my secret to tell and they have this rule where humans aren't supposed to know about their existence."
She frowns. "So how come we do?"
"It's because we are their mates and they need us just us we need them so Sunny please don't reject Ollie."
She gives me a bewildered look. "Reject him? Why would I?"
I narrow my eyes, giving her a pointed look. "You run away after he told you about his secret so it's expected that you'll not accept him."
She looks away when I say that, her lowered and sighs. "I just didn't know what was happening and when he turned into that- I panicked and got scared."
I smile lightly. "It is expected but just think about it because in his mind, his mate has run away from him and indirectly it's as if he has been rejected."
Her jaw drops when I say that and she shakes her head quickly. "I'm not rejecting him, never."
"Good." It's quiet and Sunny starts to fidget a bit. I roll my eyes knowing she wants to ask me something. "Just spit it out already."
She glares at me, raising her hand to smack me but I quickly catch her wrist surprising her. "Woah Storm since when did you get this fast?"
I press my lips together shaking my head. "Another story for another time but just ask your question."
She sighs, lowering her hand. "Is Artemis your mate?" I smile at the mention of her name and she scoffs, shaking her head. "Don't even answer. You look so stupid with that goofy smile and puppy love written all over your face."
I shrug not even bothering to hide it. Sunny suddenly sits on my bed, looking exhausted and she runs her fingers through her hair. "Werewolves huh, wow."
I sit by her, slinging my arm over her shoulder. "I know it's a lot to take in so just relax and sort your thoughts out okay." I say, kissing her temple and she hums in response.
"Did you come alone?" She questions and I shake my head.
"Artemis is here." I reply, waiting to see her reaction and she tenses up for a bit before relaxing.
"Okay. Let's go and see her." She says, getting up and I follow before I remember something.
"Uh Sunny." She turns around, quirking her brow and I rub the back of my neck nervously.
"What is it?" She asks and I run my tongue along the inside of my cheeks.
"Lyle and Jay know about it and also don't freak out when you see Artemis."
Her jaw drops when I tell her that my friends know. Probably shouldn't have dropped it that way but oh well it's out of the bag.
She opens and closes her mouth before sighing. "I don't even care at this point." And opens the door. We step into the room and they all get up immediately and by all I mean Lyle and Jay.
Jay hesitantly approaches us, with a guarded look on his face. "What happened?"
I shrug and Sunny raises her brow at him. "I know about the werewolves and I'm mad that you kept it a secret from me."
Lyle opens his mouth to protest but a soft voice cuts him off.
"Don't be Sunny, it isn't their fault."
She whips her around when she hears Artemis voice only to step back in shock and raises a shaky finger in her direction. "Y-your e-eyes..."She trails off and Artemis smiles at her.
"Yeah I know."
"B-but how?" She stutters and she shrugs looking at her with a gentle smile.
"I was born with them but that is not important, what is important is whether you are okay with knowing everything about our existence?" She questions in concern and Sunny sighs, chewing on her bottom lip.
"Honestly I'm still not coming to terms with it but I want to understand."
Artemis nods and steps closer to her. "Don't worry we're all hear to-" She abruptly stops speaking and I frown.
"Artemis what's--" I don't even get to complete my sentence before her eyes glow brightly.
Sunny stares at her in shock and before the words can come out of her mouth Artemis suddenly moves away, picks the nearest coffee table and throws it in front of her just as the door opens and an arrow flies through. The arrow pins it to the wall and I whip my head around to stare at it in shock.
"Get down!" I yell. Damn it, what the fuck is happening? Artemis doesn't even allow who ever fired the shot to do it again because she suddenly appears in front of him, grabbing the bow and snapping it into half. She does a round kick to his gut, grabs the side of his head and slams it against the wall knocking him out instantly.
I grit my teeth, rising to my feet. "What just happened?"
Artemis glances at me and frowns. "We need to get you out of here now."
Those people are surely going to die once I get my hands on them. How can they attack us just like- my eyes widen in realization and I turn around to stare at my friends in shock.
"They were here for them, weren't they?"
Artemis cups my cheeks forcing me to stare at her as she slowly nods her head. Fear overcomes me as my face pales at thought of them trying to harm my friends heck my sister.
They were going to kill them.
"Storm we can't stay here. I don't know how many were sent but we need to get out of here quickly and head straight to the pack house." She rushes out and that seems to snap me out from my thoughts.
I turn around to face them, Sunny is trembling in Jay's arms as she stares at the door. Lyle has a look of panic and fear written all over his face.
I close my eyes tightly, shutting out the thoughts of finding them dead. What if we weren't here then what?
I clench my jaw, don't think like this.
Opening my eyes, I face them. "We need to get you guys out of here now."
"W-what...." Sunny trails off still trembling and I grind my teeth in annoyance for what they let my sister witness.
I grab her wrapping her in my arms. "Sunny listen to me. I know this is scary but I need you to be strong okay."
She nods her head and takes deep breaths before staring at me in determination.
I smile patting her head.
"Second time we nearly died." Lyle grits out, glaring at the unconscious guy and I press my lips into a thin line.
"Storm we cannot wait." Artemis says and I nod.
"What about him? I know he isn't dead." I say pointing to the masked guy. Artemis glances at him for a second before darting eyes between the two of us and smiles sheepishly at me.
"Can you carry him?"
I give her a blank look and she pouts giving me the puppy dog look and I sigh knowing that I won't be able to resist her.
"Fine." I say through clenched teeth and she smiles leaning forward to peck my cheeks.
I stop in front of him, staring at his face for a minute before grabbing him and slinging him over my shoulder.
I grunt at his weight, irritation clearly on my face as we walk out of the apartment building to the car.
"Open the trunk." I tell Artemis and she quickly does. Without waiting for a minute I dump his body there, his head hitting the metal frame.
Not that I care but it serves him right.
Lyle, Sunny and Jay all head to the backseat and Artemis sits at the passenger side whilst I drive.
I know I broke a lot of traffic laws but who the heck cares.
"Why did they attack us?" Sunny finally breaks the silence in the car. Artemis and I glance at each other wondering if it's the right thing to explain.
Artemis is the first to look away as she sighs. "Sunny, I don't know how much Storm has told but trust me it will make sense after sometime."
I look through the rear view mirror to see Sunny with a frown on her face.
The forest comes to view and I sigh in relief knowing that we're close but that relief in short lived when a bunch of wolves suddenly appear in front of us.
I forcibly slam the breaks hard and the actions jerks as forward. The smell of burning tyres fills the atmosphere and I quickly raise my head looking in Artemis direction.
"Are you okay?" I rush out, eyes searching every inch of her face frantically.
She huffs, blowing a strand of her from her face and nods. I sigh in relief before looking behind to check on the others.
They look pretty shaken up but apart from that they look fine. My gaze travels forward and a brief annoyance flashes across my eyes until it's replaced with a cold look.
"They are blocking the way." I say calmly and Artemis hums in response, tapping her fingers repeatedly on the dashboard.
The eight wolves remain in their spot, eyes purely black, foam surrounding their mouth as they snarl and growl at us. Their fur looks battered and one of the wolf has half the ear bitten off.
"What are we going to do?" Jay speaks up and I frown. With them with us, it's going to be a lot difficult to fight all of them.
I mean I know for sure Artemis can take on all of them but they will slip away from her.
The door to my right opens and Artemis steps out of the car. I quickly unbuckle my seatbelt, jumping out and following her.
She stops, leaning her back against the hood of the car and crosses her ankle over her other leg as she calmly stares at them with glowing eyes.
"What are you planning?" I question
She tilts her head to the side, raising one brow as she continues staring at them. "They are waiting for something."
When she says that, it's then I notice that they haven't moved from their position at all. They just seem to be ready to attack but other than that, they growl at us.
She sighs. "Storm you need to get them out of here."
"I'm not leaving you here." I protest glaring at the wolves and she turns around to smile at me.
"I'll be fine but your friends and sister needs you more."
I clench my jaw knowing she is right before a tired sigh escapes. I step closer to her, cupping her cheeks as my thumb rubs soothing circles on it. "Will you be alright?"
She smiles, leans forward and captures my lips with hers. "I'll be fine."
Knowing very well that I can't do anything once her mind has being me, I press my lips to her forehead, giving her one last fleeting look before I go back to the car. She slowly steps away and I reverse using the other route to the pack house.
"Are we just gonna leave her there?" Sunny questions still staring at the slowly disappearing back of Artemis and I clench the wheels tightly, my knuckles turning white.
"She'll be fine." I grit out. Even though I know she can take on all of them, it still doesn't mean I'm okay just leaving her there.
The faster I drive, the closer we get to the pack house. I tap my fingers on the wheel, deep in thought. Just what were they hoping to get once they killed my friends? Is Arson living up to his threat of taking every single person that I care about because if so then my family are in danger.
Fuck!
I clench my jaw feeling irritated and pretty much useless knowing that if he went after my family, I wouldn't be there to save.
"Storm look out!" Sunny's panicked and scared voice reaches my ears and I quickly look up, hitting the breaks immediately. Dang it, I was so lost in thought I didn't even watch where I was going.
I gulp, closing my eyes and running my fingers through my hair, feeling so frustrated and angry as hell.
"What were you thinking?!" Jay snaps, the situation clearly freaking him out and I grip the wheels tightly. I ignore him and look up, squinting my eyes a bit at the shadows in a distance and for some reason they don't seem threatening. I squint a bit and my eyes widen in shock as a breath of relief escapes my lips.
"Come on guys." I say opening the door and stepping out of the car. I hear the other doors bang close and they come to my side watching the shadows approaching us. Sunny grips my arm tightly as she stares at them and I smile, squeezing her arm reassuringly.
The two large wolves suddenly appear in front of us and gasps escapes their lips as they watch them slowly stop. The first to shift is the black and white wolf with electric blue eyes and without wasting time, he rushes forward pulling Sunny into his arms.
"I'm here." Ollie murmurs, running his fingers through her hair and Sunny lets out a choked sob wrapping her arms tightly around his waist. He continues to murmur into her hair, occasionally pressing his lips against her hair and temples.
My gaze shift away from them to the brown wolf staring at Jay and Lyle. They have looks of shock on their face at the size and Jay is the first to come out when the brown wolf stops in front of him and licks his face.
Safe to say, all our jaws dropped and the only person who didn't seem surprised is Ollie. What is Selena doing? Why did she lick him?
Jay steps back in shock, raising his hand to his cheeks and looks up at Selena's wolf's eyes with an unreadable expression on his face. He clutches his chest tightly and his breath becomes short and fast.
"W-what is happening?" He stammers still clutching his chest tightly. I see his knees tremble a bit and he grabs onto the nearest person which is Lyle for support.
Ollie chuckles quietly and I look at him with Sunny fast asleep in his arms. Guess the events finally exhausted her.
"What is happening to Jay?" I question and Ollie chuckles again, shaking his head as he gives Selena's wolf a mocking smile.
"Guess your wolf is smarter than you." He mocks and Selena's wolf only rolls her eyes if that's even possible before running behind a tree and shifting. She comes back, fully clothed and steps towards us with a blank look on her face.
"We need to get to the pack house." She says clearly ignoring what is going on and I purse my lips, narrowing my eyes at her. As if sensing my gaze on her, she looks at me for a minute and smiles sadly in my direction before looking at Jay and looks away.
My eyes widen in shock! Oh my gosh! It can't be! There is no freaking way it's possible.
I don't even get to ask her before she runs in the direction of the pack house with us following close behind. I stare at her back with a conflicted expression. Why would she hide it?
I need to talk to Artemis about this.
The lights in the pack house are all on once we reach and there is bustling noise as people walk around, some looking frantic and others with stoic expressions on their face but they all stop when they see me.
"Alpha Storm." They greet, bowing their heads and I nod at them heading straight to Artemis Office. Something happened when we left to my apartment and I know it's related to the attack that happened and the wolves we saw.
As we are walking, I suddenly stop, look behind and stare at Ollie's face. He quirks his brow, giving me a blank look and my brows furrow as I continue staring at his face. Something feels different about him all of a sudden.
I shake my head, ignoring my thoughts. Must be all strange things that has happened and the adrenaline coursing through my body right now because for a second I thought I saw black veins creeping out on the skin of his neck.
I hope Artemis is okay.
Ollie gently lays Sunny and the couch in Artemis Office and tucks the strand of fallen hair behind her ear. He gives her one last look before rising to his feet and staring at me.
"What happened?" I ask and he purses his lips looking away.
"We were attacked." He says and my eyes narrow slightly.
"Where?"
He gives me a bored look and I frown. Something is definitely wrong with him.
"The pack house." He says and my eyes narrow slightly at him. Selena steps to my side and she gives Ollie a blank look. There is something wrong with the situation here and for some reason I can't really tell.
"How was the pack house--" The door bangs really loudly against the wall and breaks into pieces startling all of us except for Selena and Ollie. I feel the sudden gush of wind and the sound of a body being slammed hard against the bookshelf is heard. The books topple over, pieces of glass falls down, the shelf snaps in half and the wall behind cracks all the way to the ceiling.
"Where the fuck is my beta?" A dangerous chilling voice growls, shaking the entire room and it hits me. This is not Ollie.
A/N; Hey guys, I'm really sorry I haven't updated in a while. Things have been really stressful and rough with being in school, getting writer's block and trying to overcome it.
Updates are going to be a bit slow because I'm currently working on a project for school and I need to dedicate much time on it.
So kindly bear with me if I'm not able to regularly update my book.
On the other note, I'm really happy for all the support you guys have been giving to my book. I'm so grateful that y'all enjoyed it so much. So thanks a lot for it because honestly I really did not expect it.
