Storm's pov
Two days later, Alpha douche came back with a large number of his werewolves who were willing to fight. Artemis gave them a huge house that they could live in, a little bit farther away from the pack.
Every single day was filled with training with little or no time for rest. Riley has been training as well but he's not going to be with us during the war. His presence in the pack has been refreshing and Artemis smiles even more.
Sometimes when I watch her playing with him, I just can't help of thinking of the future when she becomes a mother. I know she would be the most beautiful mother ever.
"They are really scary." Lyle says from my side, his face drenched in sweat and I shrug. He and Jay have also been trying to train with them. I think they are planning on joining but I'm not sure. These last few days have been extremely quiet. No sudden attacks and the disappearance has also stopped.
When Artemis' brother said he was going to investigate, he hasn't been back yet and Esme has also left with Alec back to their coven to prepare.
"It's really too quiet." I voice out and Lyle raises his brow to stare at me.
"Isn't that a good thing?"
I purse my lips, shaking my head. "I don't know."
Just then Jay walks towards us, his whole body also drenched in sweat and he heaves, snatching the water from Lyle's hand and taking a huge gulp.
"They are fucking intense!" He wheezes out and looks over to stare at them and shakes his head. "I wonder how they do this." He mumbles.
"You're human, they are werewolves, it pretty much explains the who thing." Lyle mumbles from my side. I notice that Jay's gaze is on Selena, a weird look on his face as he stares at her.
"Hey Storm how did you know Artemis was your mate?" He casually asks and I raise my brow at him. Oh I know what this is about.
I shrug, looking in the direction of Selena. It's been on my mind for sometime now and I know it's not my business but why is she hiding it and behaving that way towards him. Jay snaps his fingers in front of me and I look at him to see a scowl on his face.
I shrug. "She told me but before that I felt this unexplainable connection between us. It just kept pulling me in and no matter how much I tried to resist it just wasn't enough."
He nods his head, looking down deep in thought.
"Why do you ask?" I question and he looks at me with a frown, lips pursed.
"I think Selena is my mate but I'm not sure." He finally says and I smile inwardly. She is your mate Jay but as to why she has ignored this for a long time, I really don't know.
He lets out a frustrated groan and runs his fingers through his hair, messing it up even more. "What do I do?"
Lyle just looks shocked but then he shakes his head. "Just confront her and find out if it's true or not."
He seems to consider it and nods his head at the same time. Ollie walks over to us with an excited look on his face. "Who wants to get drunk before we all die?"
"I do." Lyle pipes up, ruffling his hair. "There's too much tension here."
Jay agrees as well and I also nod my head. There's too much stuff going on and taking a break is needed at this point. He grins excitedly, bouncing on his heels at the thought of it.
"I'll get the girls and later we'll go."
When I get back to the house, I look for Artemis and find her sound asleep in my room. Her hair spreads on the pillow she's lying on as she cuddles the other pillow. Her lips naturally formed into a pout with soft snores escaping her lips.
I smile and slowly walk over to her making sure to keep my steps light before slowly sitting on the bed. I tuck a strand of her fallen hair behind her ear and my smile widens at the innocent look on her face. Her cheeks looks so soft and for a second the thought of biting it flashes through my mind.
My gaze travels lower to her lips and my mouth runs dry. They look so pink and soft.
A part of my body suddenly reacts and I clench my jaw, closing my eyes and taking deep breaths to calm myself. Storm you're such a pervert.
"Storm." She mumbles my name and every control I was excising nearly flies out the window. Is she trying to seduce me because it's working.
Just walk away Storm. I chant to myself and quickly get up and head straight to the bathroom to take care of my problem.
When I step out, I don't find Artemis in the room and I frown. Where did she go? Oh well it's best that she isn't here because who knows what would have happened.
I quickly get dressed and head downstairs only to stop in my tracks at the number of people here. When did they get in? Lyle, Jay, Sunny, Ollie and Selena are all seated, their gazes focused intently on the tv and I raise my brow at them.
"Why are you standing there?" A soft voice speaks up from behind me and I shiver turning around only for my breath to hitch in my throat. Artemis rarely wears makeup and when she does, she looks so beautiful. Her hair is done into one long French braid with a few strands on her face.
Her lips even look more pink and shinier than first and dressed in an off shoulder red crop top with black jeans and as usual, she has converse on. Her skin looks so soft and smooth.
"Why are you staring at me like that?" She questions shyly and I continue keeping my gaze on her.
"Like what?" I ask, licking my lips and she blushes at my actions and quickly looks down.
"Like you want to eat me."
A chuckle escapes my lips and I step forward closing the distance between us. Her scent suddenly engulfs me and I breath it in feeling myself calm down. I brush my lips across her cheeks, move to her ear and suck gently on her earlobe. "That's because I want to eat you." I whisper.
From the corner of my eyes, I see her slowly go down and I wrap my arm around her waist pulling her flush against my chest to prevent her from falling.
"Storm." She breathes out, clutching my shirt tightly in her fist and pull back a bit and cup her cheek. My eyes stare into her own before looking at her lips again.
"May I?" I whisper, raising my gaze to stare at her and she nods her head with a dazed look in her eyes. This makes me smile and I lean forward, our lips brushing against each other.
"Now is not the time to be kissy kissy, we have a place to go before we all die." Ollie's annoying voice reaches us. Something crashes and breaks in my head and I close my eyes taking deep breaths. Don't kill him Storm, don't kill him.
"You better fucking run Ollie." I grit out calmly and he yelps quickly dashing for the door with me fast on his tail.
"Did I ruin it Storm?" He taunts and I glare murderously at him.
"Son of a freaking bitch!" I yell chasing him and he cackles at me.
We get to the club and they all head straight to the bar. Ollie has his arm wrapped around Sunny's shoulder as he orders for us. Selena chuckles when she notices that Lyle can't hold his liquor and is drank already but I can see the way she keeps on avoiding Jay.
Jay is also bent on talking to her but she simply ignores him and I sigh leaning against the counter as I watch them. Artemis leans against my chest, her green eyes searching through the crowd and I smile at her actions, she looks so alert.
I lean down to whisper in her ear. "Relax okay."
She shivers and her body slowly relaxes in my arms. I smile pleased with her actions and kiss her hair.
The loud music is quite irritating but with Artemis here, its tolerable. Apparently this is a werewolf club and occasionally the humans come but it seems that today most of them are werewolves because I can even recognize some of our pack members.
"Why doesn't Selena want to accept Jay as her mate?" I blurt out suddenly and Artemis quickly turns around to face me, her eyes widening in surprise.
"How did you know Jay is her mate?"
I shrug and she purses her lips looking at the two of them sadly. "It complicated Storm and it's something that Selena has to get over it."
I frown feeling confused. "What do you mean?"
She sighs, leaning against my chest once again. "I told you that mates are a part of us and they make us complete. Selena once had a mate."
My jaw drops at the sudden revelation. What? Selena had a mate before Jay?!
Artemis notices my bewildered look and smiles. "She lost him the day she found out he was her mate. He was from another pack and Selena was sent there to train them but unfortunately the moment their eyes met and the spark and bond formed he was attacked by rogues."
I look at Selena. She saw that? She saw her mate get killed?
"She wasn't the same after that. It took so many years to get her and her wolf under control so the day she realized Jay was her second chance mate which let me tell you, rarely ever happens, she made Esme cast a spell on him so he wouldn't feel the connection and also took suppressants to avoid chasing him."
"Why would she do that?" I ask staring at the pair.
"She doesn't want history to repeat herself." Artemis sighs and looks over at them. "It seems it's wearing off and this time I don't think she can do anything about it."
Wow. That is so just messed up. Who would have thought that Selena had a mate before Jay.
"Jay really likes her even before this whole thing." I say watching as Jay tries to talk to her. It seems whatever he is saying is having an effect on Selena because her face suddenly looks pale.
"Jay is confronting her." Artemis says and shakes her head. "He deserves to know."
I nod in agreement. Selena suddenly pushes Jay out of the way and rushes outside. He follows her and Artemis grabs my hand pulling me in their direction.
"Stop calling me that!" We hear a voice yell and we stare at each other before quickly rushing to them. Outside, the air is chilly and the sky looks dark and grey. It seems it wants to rain.
"Tell me the truth Selena, are you my mate or not?!!!" Jay questions fiercely, his jaw clenched tightly as he glares at her. Selena narrows her eyes at him but then quickly looks away.
"You're not my mate." She says covering her stomach with her arms. Jay lets out a mocking chuckle and quickly grabs her arm, turning her around.
"Look in my eyes and tell me you're not feeling this, tell me you're not my mate?!"
She looks down for a minute before she squares her shoulders and raises her head to stare at him, a cold look in her eyes. "I don't feel anything and you are not my mate."
Artemis narrows her eyes at her but I can only look at the broken look on Jay's face. He stumbles back in shock, eyes wide, mouth opening and closing as he weakly raises a shaky finger at her. "Are you really saying this?"
Selena looks at him coldly and even I shiver a bit.
"I don't know where you got that idea from but I am not your mate." She states and walks away from him. Jay can only watch her take steps away from him as he stays rooted to his spot with a confused gaze.
"What just happened?" I mutter, looking at Selena's retreating back.
Artemis sighs but then she tenses up before looking in a certain direction but it's too late when she notices what is happening because by then, the dagger was heading straight for Selena.
"Selena watch out!" I yell quickly and a gush of wind moves past me. Selena raises her head to look up but the freezes at the dagger coming straight for her. Artemis reaches her but it's too late and she can only watch as it pierces through.
My heart drops, the blood drains from my face and every part of my body feels weak.
"JAY!!!!"
