CADDIE's POV:

"This is unnecessary," I said for the billionth time as the nurse inspected my head.

"Lady Bose suggests otherwise. She wants to make sure that there isn't a single scratch on you." The nurse mumbled, turning my face to the side.

All of my frustration poured out into a throaty groan.

The second we arrived back to the school, Alix sprinted to Heidi's office, telling her what happened. Unlike a normal relative, she didn't ask if I was fine. Instead, she barked orders to everyone like a madwoman and that the nurse do a proper evaluation. At the time I didn't know what a 'proper evaluation' meant; but apparently it meant I had to lie on a hospital bed for five hours as the nurse shined a bright light in my eyes and occasionally asked how I felt. If I had known in advance I would have ran back to Virginia.

"You look fine. Just lay down and get some rest and I'll check up on you again in a few minutes," The old woman said and quickly disappeared back into her office.

That's what I had been telling her for the past five hours!

Steam had to be coming out of my ears as I drilled holes into the Nurse's back. To my dismay she left without a second glance in my direction, leaving me in the plain white room with nothing to do. I flopped back onto the bed, with an exasperated sigh. Being royal was proving to be more a hassle than a dream come true.

The nurses infirmary was starting to become my regular hang out and I wasn't so thrilled about that. Everything was white, from the lights to the floor. It had an anti-bacterial smell that burned my nostrils. The hospital beds were lined up neatly, each bed was made perfectly. The fact that I was the only one in here made it feel like a horror movie.

Deciding that I had enough of the nurse's office, I hopped off the bed and got ready to snap my fingers. I was prepared to use magic, if necessary, to escape that hellhole.

"Okay, I'm done staying here. I'm fine. Let me leave," I demanded, thinking the person was the nurse.

My eyes settled upon the lean, Louis Vuitton catalogue model standing in the doorway. His dazzling blue eyes looked apologetic as he made his way toward me.

"Believe me, we'd break you out of here if we could," Aleksander said with the others flanking him.

"We wanted to make sure you were okay," Kimone said, walking to my side.

She looked like a worried mother, instead of my seventeen year old friend. Her luscious mahogany locks were pulled back into a French twist. Just like Aleksander, Kimone's style was immaculate. She wore a fitted white dress, that reached the top of her knees and a pair of  Louboutins. I felt incredibly inferior in my hospital gown.

"I'm fine," I insisted. "In fact, I'm better than fine. I'm perfect."

"I wouldn't say that..." Mira muttered under her breath. Ryder elbowed her in the ribs. He stepped forward and handed me something from behind. I looked down my cat Ebony.

"Ebony!" I exclaimed holding her in my arms.

Maddox gave me a sheepish look. "You said that the cat had helped you through some tough times, so we thought maybe it'll help you through this torture."

I smiled. After spending so much time with them I forgotten how close we had become. And how many embarrassing secrets of our past we shared.

"Who's idea was this?" I asked as Ebony pressed her head against my chest.

Aleksander looked away immediately shoving his hands in his pockets.

"Aleksander?" I asked, raising a brow.

"Well, I knew when we had to leave you would still be stuck here, so you might as well have someone around," he told me, looking a little embarrassed.

I took his hand and beamed, "Thank you."

A small smile began to humbly form on his lips. I let go and looked away before it got to awkward.

"Well we should go," Mira said, tugging on Aleksander's arm. "Good to know that you're alive."

It was obvious that she was wishing otherwise.

As they left a feeling of abandonment settled within me. Images of that guy in the bathroom flashed through my mind. I clutched Ebony a little tighter. My vision swam; I could practically feel the spiders crawling across my skin. A knock sounded on the door. Cam stood in doorway, a sympathetic look was marred onto his face.

"I can't get you out of here, but maybe I can offer you some company," He offered, walking into the room.

I patted the empty spot beside, and he gingerly sat down.

"Cute cat," Cam remarked sourly. Ebony hissed at him.

"Oh shut up," I scolded her. "Sorry, it's just that—"

He held up his hand for me to stop, "I know. I'm a dog and she's a cat. I wasn't always like this, though. In fact, I once had a cat."

"What do you mean?" I asked placing my hand over his. Cam's eyes collided with mine, the pupils ever-alternating from little circles to slits.

He took a deep breath. "I wasn't always a werewolf, Caddie."

I was surprised but didn't let it show and nodded in encouragement. "Go on."

"I was once like you. A warlock. Until one day a friend and I decided to go hiking, only off of the trail. We noticed something was wrong, but at that time it was too late. I could see the werewolf's beady eyes stare right at us through the trees." Cam's breathing became to fast, he clutched the white blanket we were sitting on.

"You don't have to finish," I reminded him.

Shaking his head, he kept his eyes closed and continued. Pain overpowered his emotions but there was enough amount determination to let him finish. The emotional storm was enough to make anyone cry but Cam didn't even shed a tear.

"The werewolf was a rogue, and he was hungry. He sprang for my friend but I put myself in between them, trying to fight off the wolf. I was an elemental, gifted with the power of fire," a small sad smile formed on his face, "I grilled that sucker. But it was too late. He had already scratched me and the disease was invading my system." His face darkened. "It was all for nothing."

"You can't say that. You saved your friend's life!" I tried to help but look only got worse.

"No I didn't. Everything I had was taken from me," He growled.

I scooted back a little.

"I'm sure you didn't lose everything. What about your family?" I asked, clinging onto hope. I knew there was something haunted Cam. I knew it wasn't going to be a pretty story, but how much did this one incident really take from him?

"They disowned me." His voice cracked. "While the infection was festering in my body, they sent me away. The pack the rogue belonged to agreed to take me in, but they will never be my family."

Something seemed to have dawned on him. "No one can be my family. Love doesn't exist Caddie. At least not in the way it's portrayed in movies. There is a limit to love, and it isn't never-ending. Or else we would both be home with our families."

I looked down at Ebony. She was staring at Cam with a soft look in her piercing gaze. I could feel his sorrow and anguish, I made me rehash on my own forgotten pain.

"I'm not sure what I think about love. But I think everyone has a different way of expressing it. My dad didn't know what to do with me, so he sent me to a place where others would understand. Your parents did the same."

He refused to believe it. When your mother screams in horror at your presence and your dad spits on your existence, you start to realize that they no longer love you. I wanted to help him, to reach out and give him the love that he had been deprived of.

"You still saved your friend," I said in a meager voice.

"He's dead."

My jaw dropped to the floor. "How?"

He stood up, his face red and blotchy. "Why don't you ask your Prince what happened to my friend?" he sniffed.

Cam left me sitting there with a puzzled look on my face. Aleksander? What did he have to do with Cam's friend? Did he know something about the guy's death? I came across a horrible thought—what if Aleksander had killed Cam's friend?

Could it be that a guy I ate with and hung out with was really a killer? The skin on my left hand began to crawl. I had held this hand, my stomach beginning to convulse. I bent over the side of the bed and held the garbage can up to my mouth as the early morning bagel began to spew out in chunks.

"Oh, dear lord!" The nurse exclaimed, rushing over to my side. When I was done, she blotted my face and pushed me back into the bed.

"You need to rest," she told me.

"No! I didn't puke because of what happened earlier!"

She gave me a doubtful look, "Dear, I know fear puke when I see it."

Oh yeah, it was fear puke, but right now the guy from the bathroom was hardly a concern. When the nurse left, I quietly tiptoed out of the room with Ebony in my arms. I didn't care if I was caught. I couldn't see how this day could get any worse.

"Where are you going, princess."

I froze at the sound of that voice. I turned around and saw the man from the bonfire. Spoke to soon.

"You know I was hoping I would see you again," he stalked towards me.

"I wouldn't try to hurt me, if I were you," I threatened, taking a step back.

He looked around the empty hallway, "Why not? Cameron and that little witch are no where to be seen, and we both know that you're too scared to use your powers."

He tried to reach for me but I was quicker, and kneed him in the groin. He groaned but pushed passed the pain and barreled towards me.

"Sae faelow manaroe," I chanted the ancient words, and felt my energy flow to my hands.

I grabbed him and he fell to the ground, twitching as the electricity flowed through his body. I didn't touch him long enough to short circuit his brain, but I wanted to. I knew I needed to work fast before he passed out, so I bent down and asked,

"Who was the friend with Cameron when he got attacked?"

"W-why d-do you w-want to know," he stuttered.

I lifted my hand and sparks flew.

"N-no I'll tell you," He screamed in protest, "H-his name w-was D-Dmitri."

"Was? What happened to him?" I demanded.

"H-he-" The guy passed out.

"Damn it," I swore.

I looked around for any potential witnesses, when I saw no one I stuffed his body into the nearest janitor's closet. This big burly man was rendered completely useless in mere seconds. He was right. I was afraid of my powers.

My hands still tingled, the urge to destroy lurking in the recesses of my mind. In a desperate attempt to clear my mind, I ran to the courtyard.

Couples milled around, hand in hand. They threw the warm colored leaves at each other and giggled as if nothing was wrong. But something was wrong.

Perhaps Nox Haven wasn't this perfect sanctuary. It had its secrets too. Ones that were much worse than the common secrets. They have learned how to bury these secrets six feet under the ground.

**Hey guys I still have to edit for small mistakes. I hope you like the story so far. In the meantime tell us what you think. What do think of Cam's back story? Do you think Aleksander killed Dmitri? More importantly, Who is Dmitri and why is he important to the story?**
