Arjun's Pov

Vinesh looked petrified. He was sweating, trembling, and crying. I wish I could have given him some time to come out of his shock but sadly I couldn't. The murder had just occurred which meant the killer was nearby. Of course, he couldn't have gone far.

Maybe there was still a chance of catching him.

Keeping that in mind, I held Vinesh firmly, looked him in the eye, and said "Where did he go?"

Vinesh looked at me with wide eyes and started stuttering with his words. "I was in the bedroom, pulling out the bed cover....Nee-Neethu was in the hall. She was switching off the lights before coming to ro-room"

"Yes ok! But where is he?", I started to lose my patience. I wanted the location of the killer, not his account, not yet.

"He came in through the window, there was the noise of breaking glass. I heard her scream! I ran down but when I got there, that thing already left! My Neethu was dead! The door was open, but I didn't see where he went"

"Alright then", I sighed "Patricia, stay here with him. I am going out to find him. Lock the door behind me and hide somewhere. Behind the shelf, under a table anywhere."

She did as she was told.

I left the room and stood behind the door. Once I heard the lock turning I moved to search the remaining part of the house. I had a gut feeling that the murderer was hiding somewhere in the house waiting to escape without getting caught. The main door was only a little bit open. I had to push it open to enter. Now if a person who has just murdered someone wants to flee before the husband of the deceased sees his face then he will definitely run out in a hurry leaving the door wide open. Which meant he kept the door open to fool us into thinking he left. His only mistake was keeping it slightly open, not entirely.

I searched the bedroom but found nothing. When I was about to leave, I heard a crashing sound from the hall. It sounded like something made of glass falling.

And I ran out of the bedroom. You can say I was faster than lightning as I made my way towards the hall. But sadly I wasn't fast enough to catch him. By the time I reached the hall, he was already gone, leaving the door wide open.

In a distance, I could see a dark black figure heading towards the woods with a shiny object in hand.

The rate of my heartbeat increased to a dangerous level. And I sprinted after him. I was stupid enough to get only my gun and not my mobile. Which meant I couldn't call for reinforcements.

But that didn't matter now. I was already after him. I just took off in full force. There was no way in hell I was going to let him get away this time. The person was extremely fast and he knew his way around the woods.

Me on the other hand stumbled upon broken branches and big rocks now and then. This slowed me down. The distance between us was increasing. Should I just stop?

No! Not gonna lose him!

Pointing my gun towards him, I yelled "Stop or I will shoot!"

Said man just ignored my threats and kept running. Now that was obvious. They never listen. Pointing my gun towards the trees next to him, I gave him a few warning shots to scare him. But he still didn't stop.

Seven minutes into chasing, it was becoming annoying. I didn't know how deep into the woods I was but it was getting really dark in here and I was having problems keeping my eyes on him. I was also out of breath and panting hard. So I decided to take the call.

Pointing my gun towards his thigh, I shot him. Now we were taught not to shoot the suspects under any circumstances. However, during times like these, when they refuse to listen we can use our guns. Not for an encounter. Encounter is the last option. But to shoot so that the person is injured and stops whatever he/she is doing. In this case, it was to stop him from running away.

Because of my shaky aim, the bullet just grazed through his flesh. But thank god it slowed him down a bit. But he kept on running. I picked up my pace to reduce the distance between us.

It was too dark to see his face or anything related to his body. I could only see the outline of his body, feel his presence, and hear his heavy breathing.

Finally, he stopped. His back was still facing me and it looked like he had cowered down with his hands on his knees, trying to catch his breath. Even I stopped. Pointing my gun towards his head, I commanded, "Drop the knife, raise your hands in the air and kneel down"

Clank!

The shiny object dropped to the floor. I could see the vague outline of his body rising with a pair of hands rising in the air as well.

"I said KNEEL!", I ordered again. This time the command sounded scarier.

Without speaking the figure started to bend down. This time he was on his knees with his hands raised in the air.

When I was sure, he had done exactly what I told him to do, I moved forward with slow, but confident steps. I kicked the knife to the side so that he couldn't retrieve it.

Curse the clouds that were blocking the moon. Things were barely visible because of it. I knew I didn't have any handcuffs, nor did I have a phone to let the police know that he was caught. So I just decided to knock him out of his senses so that he becomes harmless.

Holding the gun upside down by the barrel, I raised the grip region to strike him hard in the head.

Maybe holding the gun upside down was not a good idea because the trigger was not within my reach. And looks like he knew it because in a split second he lowered his hand and went for his thigh.

And before I could attack him, I felt a sharp pain in my stomach. Looking down I saw another lean, shiny, metallic object. It was between my stomach and his hand.

It was caused by another knife. Looks like, he carries two knives. One to kill, and one spare.

Wow

My hand started wobbling and the gun fell to the ground. I started to feel the pain caused by the knife. I was trembling because of the excruciating pain but no, I will not scream, I will not show him I am hurt. Panting hard I tried to endure the pain.

He rose and his face was few centimeters away from mine. You cant even call it a face. I could barely see anything except for a dark, round outline. He was breathing with every single breath hitting my face. That is how I figured how close we were.

He twisted the knife, damaging the tissues further and a scream of agony escaped my mouth. Right now, the only reason I was standing was because of the knife stuck to my stomach. The knife that he was holding. And he was keeping me like that to torture me.

With my shaky and weak hands, I tried to punch him, but before I could hit him he removed the knife and I fell to the ground. I was gripping on to my deep wound, and gasping for air.

He on the other hand just picked up his other knife and was putting the former one back into some kind of holster that was attached to his thigh.

"If I survive, I promise you I will put a bullet through your head", I spat. He stood still in front of me for few seconds then turned around and took off.

"I PROMISE YOU!", I screamed. Who the hell was I fooling? The cut was extremely deep. And I had no one to call in these big woods. I was going to bleed to death here.

The clouds finally moved, letting the moon shine its light. And in an instant the forest became visible.

"Now you decide to show up?", I chuckled. Lifting my head, I looked down and saw the wound. "Oops, that bad huh"

I was alone, tired, sweaty, and dirty. I was also delusional, maybe that's why I saw a figure come up to me. A figure with long hair. Before I could make out who it was, my vision blurred and soon everything became dark.

A/N:

Hi so if the gun part was a bit difficult for you to imagine. Here is a picture of the gun and its parts. So hope you have some idea of how he wanted to strike that killer.
