Bear-san, Gives Finaâs Present, Dezerto City Edition 1
I repatriated Swaying Bear and Hugging Bear, and I opened the door of the bear gate while imagining Dezerto city. The door opened to a small warehouse.
âItâs narrow.â (Shuri)
Shuri mutters.
Itâs a small house. The bear gate just barely fit.
We moved from the warehouse to the living room.
âWhatâs this house?â (Fina)
âI bought this house in Dezerto. Itâs small, though.â (Yuna)
However, itâs large enough for one person to live alone.
Besides, itâs a house I bought just to install a bear gate. I donât live here, so no problem.
âWell then, first, letâs head to the lordâs house in this city.â (Yuna)
I want to tour the city, but I have an appointment with Karina, and I want to introduce Mumroot-san to her as soon as possible.
âA descendant of Quat and Cyan?â (Mumroot)
I donât know how many generations it was, but it seems to be the name of Karinaâs ancestor.
Lifespans are different between humans and long-lived elves. The same amount of time is short for elves. Ruimin also feels sad about being left behind by Fina and Shuri.
But thatâs not an option.
Just because itâs painful to say goodbye doesnât mean itâs better not to meet people. Enjoy the present and think about the future then. Donât stop and move forward.
âFina, Shuri, youâre fine on your own, right?â (Yuna)
âCan we go with you?â (Fina)
âItâs fine. Theyâre not the kind of people who would kick you out or mistreat you. Besides, thereâs a girl about Finaâs age, so I think youâll get along.â (Yuna)
Karina is not the kind of girl who makes fun of commoners.
If they mistreat Fina and Shuri, we will leave.
I opened the door and stepped out of the house.
I bought a house in a less-trafficked area, so fewer people are around.
âThis is the city they made?â (Mumroot)
Mumroot-san looks around.
âWhere are we? Whereâs the lake?â (Mumroot)
âThe lake is that way, though itâs a bit far away. Balima-sanâs house is also near the lake, so letâs stop by the lake first.â (Yuna)
We start walking towards the lake.
And, as usual, I gather gazes, but I walk without minding them.
Giving up is the key.
I notice the people whoâre looking at me.
âOh right. Itâs okay to take off your cloak in the city. Itâs less hot here.â (Yuna)
Fina and the others look around and remove their hoods.
âItâs true. Itâs not as hot as where we were earlier.â (Fina)
âItâs like the lake is bringing down the ambient temperature.â (Yuna)
I didnât know because of the bear costume, but I heard a story like that.
They all removed their cloaks, put them in their item bags, and we started walking again toward the lake.
âItâs changed a lot. There werenât many buildings, and there werenât so many people before.â (Mumroot)
Well, buildings and people change over time. It canât be helped.
And we arrived at the lake in the center of the city.
âAt least the scenery here hasnât changed.â (Mumroot)
Mumroot-san stops and looks at the lake nostalgically.
The scenery of the lake may not have changed since then. When I think about it, I am deeply moved as when I learned about those desert marker posts.
When everyone was looking at the lake, Shuri pointed at the lake.
âYuna-oneechan, what is that? Thereâs someone on board.â (Shuri)
I looked in the direction where Shuri was pointing and saw a big duck swimming. The big duck had a child on it.
Whatâs its name again?
Did I ask it in the first place?
I took the liberty of calling it something like a big duck, but I forgot if I even asked it what its name was.
âWell, Iâve brought a big egg before, right? Itâs from that bird.â (Yuna)
âBird!â (Shuri)
âBy any chance, if you ride that bird, will you be able to fly in the sky!?â (Ruimin)
This time, Ruimin reacted.
âNo, I donât think it can.â (Yuna)
Image-wise, I donât think it could spread its wings if you got on it.
I wonder, do all three of them want to fly?
As expected, Swaying Bear and Hugging Bear cannot fly or walk in the sky.
Can they learn a skill to fly?
I want Swaying Bear and Hugging Bear to learn it, even if itâs not me.
We then head to Balima-sanâs house, overlooking the lake.
Then, despite being repeatedly pointed at being called a âbearâ, we arrive safely at Balima-sanâs house.
Itâs large because itâs the residence of the lord of this city.
When I looked in from outside the gate, I saw a maid, so I went to talk to her, but she happened to look at me, and our gazes met. When the maid saw me, she looked surprised.
âYuna-sama?â
She was surprised not because of my appearance as a bear, but because it was me.
âRasa-san, itâs been a while. I came to visit.â (Yuna)
Rasa-san is a maid who works in this mansion. When I came here before, she taught me how to make curry.
Her surprised expression turned joyous, and she rushed towards us.
âWelcome, Yuna-sama. Thank you for coming from afar. Both Karina-sama and the Master will be delighted.â (Rasa)
Rasa responds with a smile, even though itâs a sudden visit.
Well, itâs hard to contact them, so it canât be helped to visit us out of the blue.
Rasa-san led us into the house and guided us to a room.
I will go and inform the Master and Karina-sama, so please wait a moment.â
Rasa-san bowed her head and left the room.
Shuri tried to move around the room, but Fina silently held her hand to stop her.
âLetâs just sit in the chair and wait.â (Yuna)
Shuri sits in a chair to keep her from moving around.
After Rasa-san left the room, I heard someone running down the hallway a few moments later, and then the door burst open.
âIs it true that Yuna-san is here?!â (Karina)
A girl with reddish hair entered the room.
âKarina, itâs been a while.â (Yuna)
âIt is you Yuna-san. You came.â (Karina)
The moment she saw me, she smiled and ran up to me. Then, she grabbed my bear puppet.
âI promised to come again, didnât I?â (Yuna)
âYes. But I didnât expect you to come sooner.â (Karina)
âI have Swaying Bear and Hugging Bear with me, so I can come easily.â (Yuna)
Lies come out of my mouth naturally since Iâm already used to them.
âIâd like to meet Swaying Bear-chan and Hugging Bear-chan, but who are these people with you, Yuna-san?â (Karina)
Karina asks while looking at Fina and the others.
âWhen Balima-san arrives, Iâll introduce them.â (Yuna)
As I was saying that, the door opened, and Balima-san entered the room.
âYuna-san, itâs been a while.â (Balima)
âIâm in the city, so I thought Iâd stop by.â (Yuna)
âYuna-san, youâre more than welcome. And whenever you come to the city, please stop by. Karina will be happy to see you. So you are not alone today?â (Balima)
Like Karina, he looked at Fina and the others.
Well, of course, youâll be curious if people you donât know are visiting you.
I turned my attention to the two people sitting to my right.
âThese two are my friends from the town of Crimonia. Fina, and Shuri.â (Yuna)
âIâm Fina.â
âIâm Shuri.â
Fina and Shuri stood from their chairs and gave their greetings.
Next, I turned my attention to the two people sitting to my left.
âAnd, this is the legendary adventurer Mumroot-san and his granddaughter Ruimin.â (Yuna)
Balima-san and Karina looked surprised at my introduction to the two.
âMissy, whatâs with the legendary adventurer?â (Mumroot)
Mumroot-san looks embarrassed at my introduction and explanation.
âBecause it seems that your name has been passed down throughout the generations, Mumroot-san.â (Yuna)
Heâs legendary enough.
âMumroot-sama? You mean that Mumroot-sama, who built this city together with our ancestors?â (Karina)
Karina looks at Mumroot-san in disbelief.
âI told you before that I knew an elf by the same name. So I checked, and he said it was him, so I brought him here.â (Yuna)
âAfter listening to her story, I felt nostalgic and asked her to bring me here. If itâs not too much trouble, Iâd like a tour of the city.â (Mumroot)
âThen, itâs true? Iâm deeply moved. To be able to meet Mumroot-sama while Iâm still alive.â (Balima)
âOf course. Please feel free to explore the city.â (Karina)
Karina and Balima-san were acting as if they had just met their ultimate idol.
âI only helped them along the way. After we left, it was Quat and Cyan who developed the city. Iâm sure they went through a lot of hardship. But they have made a great city, and their children have protected it. I am the one who should be thankful. Thank you for protecting the city they built for so long.â (Mumroot)
Mumroot-san lowered his head.
âWe were just doing our part. And when we were about to fail that role, Yuna-san saved us.â (Balima)
Balima-san looks at me.
âAnd itâs not just us who support this city. Itâs the people, the residents who live here.â (Balima)
Without people, a city cannot exist. But without people to manage it, it would become a lawless zone.
Both are essential.
âSo, how long will you be staying?â (Balima)
âMissy, how long are you planning to stay?â (Mumroot)
In response to Balima-sanâs question, Mumroot-san looks at me to confirm.
âI havenât decided, but I think if we stay too long, Finaâs parents will worry, so maybe a couple of days at most.â (Yuna)
In fact, I have not decided on the length of our stay. But if I donât decide now, Karina will likely stick with me, so Iâll use Fina and the others as a reason to keep it vague.
âI see. Then please stay at our home during that time.â (Karina)
âIf itâs a house to stay in, I have my own house, so weâre fine.â (Yuna)
âYuna-san, your house is too small for everyone to stay together, and we would like to entertain you all. Please, let us entertain you.â (Balima)
âWhat do you say, Mumroot-san?â (Yuna)
âSince weâre already here, we might as well take their word, I guess.â (Mumroot)
With Mumroot-sanâs word, we accepted the invitation to stay at Balima-sanâs house.
