Bear-san, Goes Out Of The Town
We arrived near the town walls while listening to Mia and Carol. Their camp lied in the opposite direction to the collapsed wall from where we entered.
There were no buildings around the wall, just trees. As we walked around looking at the surroundings, Fina spoke up.
âItâs Horse-san.â (Fina)
A horse was tied to a tree from the corner of Finaâs sight.
Mia gently stroked the horseâs neck when she approached it.
âIâm back.â (Mia)
The horse looked happy when Mia stroked it.
âIs there a place where horses could come in?â (Kagali)
âThereâs a hole over there. Letâs go outside.â (Mia)
Mia started walking with her horse, and we followed her.
Indeed, as Mia said, there was a hole in the wall that Swaying Bear and Hugging Bear could somehow get through.
âThere was a hole in such a place.â (Kagali)
It was on the other side, so I donât think Kagali-san could see it from where she checked.
âWhere did you guys come in from?â (Mia)
âFrom the collapsed wall on the other side.â (Yuna)
âOh, yeah. We wanted to enter from there, but it was a pity to leave this guy outside the wall, so we looked for another place to enter.â (Mia)
Mia looks at the horse with kind eyes.
âWe found this hole when we were walking along the wall.â (Carol)
Carol adds an explanation to Miaâs words.
We went through the hole. Swaying Bear and Hugging Bear were able to pass through snuggly.
After passing through the hole in the wall, we move to a place where magic tools can be used.
âHow far are we going?â (Yuna)
âThereâs a river ahead. Weâre going to take a rest there.â (Mia)
As Mia said, just a little walk and we found the flowing river.
Mia made the horse drink water and took out the horseâs fodder from her item bag.
âWell then, letâs eat together.â (Mia)
Mia and Carol took out something that looked like food from the item bag. Dried meat and hard-looking bread.
I guess if youâre going to be away from home, you have no choice (but to eat hard bread).
âWell then, shall we eat too?â (Yuna)
I tell Fina and Kagari-san to wash their hands, and in the meantime, spread a sheet on the ground and put out hot soup, bread, and fruits.
Mia and Carol were surprised to see it.
âIt looks delicious.â (Mia)
Mia is watching while eating her bread.
âEtto, do you guys want to eat with us too?â (Yuna)
As expected, while the two of them were eating what looked like hard bread, I felt uncomfortable being the only ones eating Morin-sanâs delicious bread, so I asked them to join our meal.
âIs that okay!?â (Mia)
Mia had a big smile on her face.
However, her expression quickly changed to suspicion.
âYouâre not gonna charge me a bill later, are you?â (Mia)
Sheâs skeptical.
However, there are those who deceive people, so it might be okay to be cautious with someone youâve just met.
Moreover, the one sheâs talking to is a bear.
âNo, I wonât.â (Yuna)
I put a new loaf of bread on the sheet to show that I have enough for two more.
âFina, Kagali-san, letâs start eating too.â (Yuna)
âWell then, I guess Iâll take your offer.â (Kagali)
âYes.â (Fina)
Kagali-san and Fina sat down, grabbed a piece of bread, and started eating. Seeing this, Mia and Carol also sat with us.
âIs it really okay if I eat it?â (Mia)
âThereâs a lot, so you can eat until youâre full.â (Yuna)
âWell then, Iâll dig in.â (Mia)
Mia and Carol took the bread and put it in their mouths.
âWhat the! This bread is delicious!â (Mia)
Thatâs right. Itâs the bread that Morin-san made.
I am happy that itâs being praised.
I poured them a cup of drink.
âDo you like fruits?â (Yuna)
âAs long as itâs free.â (Mia)
After Mia and Carol said thanks, they wholeheartedly enjoyed the food.
âYuna. Do you have onigiri?â (Kagali)
Kagali-san looked at the food lined up on the sheet and asked.
Apparently, Kagali-san would instead prefer eating rice balls to bread.
âYeah, I do.â (Yuna)
I gave Kagali-san a rice ball.
âI prefer this one.â (Kagali)
Kagali-san eats her rice ball with great relish.
âWhatâs that! Give me some too.â (Mia)
Seeing Kagali-san enjoying the rice ball, Mia also took a rice ball.
âAh, wait~â (Yuna)
Mia puts the rice ball in her mouth before I can stop her.
Miaâs expression changes.
I offered her a glass of water, which she drank down in one gulp.
âS-Sour!â (Mia)
âThatâs why I told you to wait. That rice ball contained something sour called umeboshi.â (Yuna)
âNobody can eat this.â (Mia)
âThatâs not true. Itâs delicious for me and Kagali-san.â (Yuna)
To prove it, I eat a rice ball with pickled plums.
Yup, itâs sour and delicious.
However, it seems impossible for people who are not used to eating it. Fina doesnât like pickled plums, either.
âI think youâll like this one.â (Yuna)
Itâs a rice ball with seasoned meat.
Mia timidly picks it up and brings it to her mouth.
âIndeed, this is delicious.â (Mia)
âDo you want some rice balls too, Fina?â (Yuna)
Fina looked at me happily, so I handed her a rice ball.
âYes. I will eat it.â (Fina)
I ask Mia and Carol while eating rice balls.
âMia, Carol. How long have you been here?â (Yuna)
âWe came here three days ago.â (Mia)
Itâs difficult to tell whether itâs short or long.
âSo I was doing some research and found you guys today.â (Mia)
âYuna-san, was it? Did you come from a village nearby or something?â (Carol)
Carol hesitated to ask.
ââ¦â¦â
Having trouble answering, I turned my attention to Fina and Kagali-san.
âWe came from a hidden village, so I canât tell you about it.â (Kagali)
When I was at a loss for a response, Kagali-san answered for me.
âI see. Actually, I donât think we can stay here very long, considering the food situation. So I was hoping to find a village nearby where we could get some food.â (Carol)
Carol looks disappointed.
The village Kagali-san mentioned was made up, so they couldnât procure food from there.
I feel a bit guilty.
âWhere did you guys come from?â (Kagali)
âIn a town called Galletta, just south of here.â (Carol)
ââââ¦â¦âââ
I asked, but I canât respond because I donât know the name of the city.
âCould it be, you donât know? How long have you been living in a remote village?â (Mia)
Mia says dismissively.
âMia-chan, donât talk like that. Some people have never left their village. Some of our acquaintances have never left the town after all.â (Carol)
âThatâs right, but isnât it better if you know the name at least?â (Mia)
âIâm sorry. As you can see, Iâm still young.â (Kagali)
Kagali-san evaded.
âDidnât you just say you were older than us?â (Mia)
âYou must have heard wrong.â (Kagali)
âWell, it canât be helped that a child doesnât know about it. But if itâs you, shouldnât you know about it? Youâre an adventurer, arenât you?â (MIa)
It has jumped to me.
As expected, I canât say I donât know, so I nodded vaguely.
âAh, yeah, I know. Galletta, right? More importantly, since weâre going to act together, letâs share information.â (Yuna)
Since it would be troublesome for me to ask about the town any further, I activated my secret technique, diversion.
âIt looks like weâre going to talk one-sidedly. If youâre just listening, then weâre done here.â (Mia)
âHow can I make you trust us?â (Yuna)
âYeah. Then it would be helpful if you could share some food. If you donât want to tell us your village, thatâd be enough, right?â (Mia)
âWell, if youâre fine with that. Is bread okay?â (Yuna)
âYes, thatâs fine.â (Mia)
I take out some of the bread I have in large quantities.
âAre you fine with this?â (Carol)
âThereâs plenty more where that came from. I also have some wolf meat and chicken meat I can give you. Theyâre frozen, so you can thaw them and grill them.â (Yuna)
âWouldnât that melt?â (Mia)
I took out a cooler box.
âIf you put it in here, itâll be fine.â (Yuna)
Thereâs an ice magic stone inside. Well, itâs technically a small freezer at this point.
âIâll give you this one too. Ah, will it fit in the item bag? If not, I can give you another item bag.â (Yuna)
âWa-wait a second!â (MIa)
Mia stopped me when I tried to take out the item bag from my bear box.
âWhat?â (Yuna)
âWe canât take that much.â (Mia)
âDonât worry about it. Itâs something I donât use and I donât need it right now. I still have some in stock. If I need it, I can just make it.â (Yuna)
ââ¦â¦â
âEtto, just who are you?â (Mia)
âJust your average adventurer.â (Yuna)
Mia and Carol looked at Kagali-san and Fina. I wonder if my response was not good enough.
âSheâs a coagulation of insanity, thereâs no point in worrying about it.â (Kagali)
âBecause Yuna-oneesan is an amazing person.â (Fina)
Mia and Carol looked at each other.
âJust the bread is fine. If you do that much, Iâm afraid youâll take it back while weâre sleeping or from behind.â (Mia)
âI wonât do that.â (Yuna)
âThatâs what it feels like.â (Mia)
âMia-chan has never been treated so kindly before.â (Carol)
âNo, if someone you just met today treated you so kindly, youâd normally be suspicious, wouldnât you? If Yuna were a man, I would definitely think she was after my body.â (Mia)
Iâve heard stories about how men are kind for a reason.
Even Gentz-san was looking out for Fina because he liked Tirumina-san.
âCould it be, Yuna. Are you a man or something?â (Mia)
âIâm a girl!â (Yuna)
No matter how much of a pancake I am, Iâm not a man. Besides, itâs impossible to judge the size of my chest because of the bear costume.
âBecause you act so manly, I thought you could be a boy in a cute outfit.â (Mia)
âThat possibility is zero. If you say any more crazy things, I wonât give you any food. I want information and Mia and Carolâs trust.â (Yuna)
âYuna, your lines stink.â (Mia)
âYou said it yourself. So what do you want to do?â (Yuna)
âI understand. Iâll stop doubting you anymore. Either way, if Yuna attacks me, Carol and I wonât be able to win. In that case, I have no choice but to believe in you.â (Mia)
Negotiation; successful.
Mia and Carol put the bread in a cloth bag and put it in the item bag.
