Bear-san Talking to the Fairy
âA Fairy?â (Yuna)
She was a pretty girl, about the size of two hands combined, dressed in a green dress-like outfit, with long golden hair. She also had wings on her back that people did not have. From every angle, she looked like a fairy herself.
âDid you just call me a fairy? Perhaps you can see me?â (Fairy)
The fairy flew in front of me as if to assert herself.
âYes, I can see you.â (Yuna)
âAre you sure you can see me? Itâs not just light, or like an insect.â (Fairy)
âYou look like a girl dressed in green with long golden hair tied up on either side.â (Yuna)
I told her what I saw, and she looked happy and started to fly around me.
âYou really can see me, huh?â (Fairy)
âAre you really a fairy?â (Yuna)
âYou canât believe what you see with your own eyes?â (Fairy)
âWell, Iâve never seen a fairy before. You are not an insect, right?â (Yuna)
âDonât lump such a pretty girl like me with a bug!â (Fairy)
The fairy girl jumped at me, but I ducked to the side.
âUgh, donât avoid me!â (Fairy)
âWell, if you fly straight at me, I could not help but dodge.â (Yuna)
The fairy girl looked frustrated.
I thought it was better that I didnât reactively swat her like an insect. If it had been a bug, I would have swatted it.
âUm, Yuna-san, did you just mention a fairy?â (Noa)
Noa asked while I was talking to the fairy girl. Noa was looking around at where I was telling her, but her gaze passed over the fairy, which showed that she couldnât see the fairy.
âItâs right in front of me, though.â (Yuna)
With the Bear Puppet, I pointed to where the fairy was.
Noa stared at where I was pointing with the Bear Puppet. The fairy stopped still in front of it.
âUuuh, I canât see it.â (Noa)
I tried my best to guide her, but she still couldnât see the Fairy at all.
âI donât think she can see us fairies. Only a few people can see us.â (Fairy)
The fairy flew in front of Noa, but Noa didnât react.
âBy the way, you canât hear a fairyâs voice either, can you?â (Yuna)
âNo, I canât hear it. To me, it looks like Yuna-san is talking to no one.â (Noa)
I would look like a strange person from a different angle, wouldnât I?
I could imagine looking like a really creepy, evil person muttering to myself, performing a monologue.
If I saw such a person from afar, I would immediately flee to avoid getting involved with such a strange person.
âBut the fairy does exist, right?â (Noa)
âDo you believe in fairies?â (Yuna)
âOf course I do, Yuna-san says she can see them, so I believe you.â (Noa)
Noa could neither hear nor see the fairy, but she believed me just by my statement.
âThis girl is a sweetheart.â (Fairy)
I agree with her. Noa treated Fina normally and was not overbearing even though Noa was born into nobility. However, she can sometimes be a bit selfish when it comes to bears, such as Swaying Bear and Hugging Bear.
The fairy flew around Noa and tried talking to her, but Noa didnât respond.
âBut why is it that only some people can see you?â (Yuna)
âIt is said that in order for a person to see a fairy, they have to be on the same magic wavelength as that fairy.â (Fairy)
Does that mean that my magic was on the same wavelength as this fairy?
It might have been thanks to the power I received from God, right?
Or maybe our magic were actually on the same magic wavelength which somehow miraculously established a connection.
I couldnât possibly figure it out right now, so I didnât worry about it.
âBut at first, I couldnât see you either.â (Yuna)
I could hear her voice, but I couldnât see her.
âThatâs because our magic wavelength was not a perfect match, so I had to synchronize mine to match your magic wavelength for you to be able to see me.â (Fairy)
âSo, if you match your wavelength to Noaâs, or rather her magic wavelength, she can see you, too?â (Yuna)
I asked, looking at Noa.
âThatâs impossible. It is not possible for me to synchronize with a wavelength far different from mine. I could only adjust my magic wavelength to match those who were close to matching mine.â (Fairy)
So that was why only I could see her.
âNoa, it seems like you can only see fairies if you have similar magic power as them.â (Yuna)
âUgh, I see. They say that fairies can only be seen by a limited number of people. So it was because of the magic power.â (Noa)
When I told Noa the reason, she looked disappointed.
âBut I, too, wanted to see the fairies who are said to be beautiful and lovely. I wanted to talk to her.â (Noa)
If I could, I would like to show Noa the fairies, too, but this time, there was nothing I could do.
Just as I was about to give up, the fairy girl said something I hadnât expected.
âIn case youâre wondering, that girl might be able to see and talk to me, as well.â (Fairy)
âBut you said that you canât show yourself earlier.â (Yuna)
âThatâs because, until now, you werenât there. But if you, who are on the same magical wavelength as me, lend me your magic power, I can make it possible for her and others to see me.â (Fairy)
âHow can I help you?â (Yuna)
âJust give me a little bit of your magic power.â (Fairy)
Magic powerâ¦
I looked at Noa. She looked disappointed that she couldnât see the fairy.
âIt wonât affect me in any strange way, will it?â (Yuna)
âNo, it wonât. I am receiving your magic power, so if anyone will be affected, it will be me.â (Fairy)
âWell, then.â (Yuna)
I reached out to the fairy, and she climbed on top of the Bear Puppet.
âNoa, watch my hand. You might see the fairy.â (Yuna)
âReally?â (Noa)
âOkay, here we go.â (Yuna)
I didnât know if this was necessary, but I channeled my magic power into the Bear Puppet.
The fairy took in my magic power, and as soon as I thought her body was glowing, Noa shouted.
âOh, itâs the fairy! I can see it!â (Noa) n/o/vel/b//in dot c//om
Noaâs eyes opened wide as she watched the fairy on top of my Bear Puppet.
âIt looks like she can see me now, as well.â (Fairy)
âYou are beautiful. Very pretty.â (Noa)
âThat human has a good eye for things.â (Fairy)
The fairy started to fly around Noa, thrilled to be told she was beautiful and pretty.
Well, I think she was beautiful, but her personality seemed a little arrogant.
Noa reached out her hand, and the fairy stopped on her hand, which made Noa smile.
âThis is the first time Iâve seen a fairy, but there really are fairies.â (Noa)
âYouâre lucky. You donât get to see a fairy like me that often.â (Fairy)
âYes, it will be a memory I will cherish forever.â (Noa)
âUhhhâ¦â (Fairy)
Noaâs straightforward words left the fairy girl dumbfounded.
âUm, andâ¦â (Noa)
Noa was about to ask something from the fairy, but then she realized that she didnât know her name.
âMy name is Primme.â (Primme)
Just as Noa was about to ask, the fairy said her name.
âI am Noire; please call me Noa. Umm, Primme-chan?â (Noa)
âIâm older than you.â (Primme)
âUmm, Iâm sorry, Primme-san.â (Noa)
Apparently, âchanâ was not acceptable.
She looked like a miniaturised 15-year-old girl, but she was a fairy. I have no idea how old she really was.
âNoa. And youâre Yuna, the funny-looking one, right? Thatâs what the girl called you.â (Primme)
âYes, thatâs right.â (Yuna)
I tried to say my name, but she called my name first.
Besides, I know that my outfit was weird, but I felt uncomfortable when the fairy said it.
âSo, what we discovered here is that the ghost is actually a fairy prankster.â (Yuna)
I have read stories of prankster fairies in mangas and novels. But I never thought they would appear before me.
âBut with this, the request is complete, and Iâm glad that it did not end up as an actual ghost, right Yuna-san?â (Noa)
I was no longer afraid once I knew that the ghost was a fairy.
Just as Noa said, the request was now accomplished.
The pay would be enough for a bit of spending money.
âNoa helped me out too, so with the request fee, letâs buy something delicious to eat.â (Yuna)
âSure!â (Noa)
Noa beamed with happiness.
The fact that Noa was here with me made me feel half as scared as I would have. I should thank her at least that much.
I looked at the fairy again.
âWhat is it?â (Primme)
âDonât play pranks and scare people anymore. Everyone was in a lot of trouble because they thought that there was a ghost in this house. If you could, you shouldnât stay in this mansion.â (Yuna)
I said this to her as if I was talking to a child.
She was small, so she looked like a child.
âWait, who are you talking about playing tricks on people and startling them?â (Primme)
She left Noaâs hand and flew right in front of my face.
âItâs you.â (Yuna)
âI was not playing a prank to scare people.â (Primme)
âYou tried to startle us by imitating ghosts and saying âsave meâ and moving the curtains around, taking advantage of your invisibility.â (Yuna)
âI didnât mean to scare you. I just wanted people to find me.â (Primme)
âWhy?â (Yuna)
Primme answered a little sadly, and Noa looked at her and asked.
âBecause I wanted someone to help me, as I mentioned before.â (Primme)
Primme said with a serious face.
She did not seem to be mischievously playing a prank, lying or joking.
âPlease, help me.â (Primme)
Primme perched on top of my Bear Puppet and bowed her head to ask for help.
